The Doormaker is a troublesome boss who constantly reforms what is essentially a high-health shield every few turns. He's one of the more troublesome bosses in Slay the Spire 2, but even so, he can be beaten if players prepare an adequate deck. Doormaker shuts down builds that rely on negative status effects, and if you want to take him down, you need to have a Slay the Spire 2 deck that can deal good damage while still providing you with enough protection to survive his weighty hits.

Slay the Spire 2 Doormaker Boss Guide
The Doormaker has a fairly simple combat mechanic: in the beginning, you fight a closed portal (simply called Door), and every time you take it down, it opens up to reveal the actual boss, which is an angry giant (the Doormaker) living beyond the portal's other side. After two or three, the Doormaker will close the portal, restoring the Door back to full (albeit reduced) HP, and the fight resets itself.
Any damage you deal to the Doormaker is retained throughout the fight, but every time he retreats, you will be forced to fight the Door again, except it returns with slightly more HP than before. Failure to defeat the Doormaker in time will only make the fight drag out longer, so make sure you build a good deck and play it well.
Any buffs and debuffs that the Doormaker receives are retained throughout the fight. You won't need to worry about re-stacking statuses like Poison and Doom on him.
Doormaker Fight Tips
- The Door counters status-oriented decks like the Silent's Poison build and the Necrobinder's Doom builds. Every time the giant retreats, the new closed portal that appears will return without any status effects built up on it, forcing players to set things up all over again.
- If you've been using a Poison or Doom build up until Act 3 and you see that you'll be fighting the Doormaker, consider adding cards that deal direct damage.
-
When the closed portal is nearly dead, try to save a few cards and Energy points. Killing the portal stuns the boss and reveals the giant, giving you an opportunity to deal damage without having to spend any Energy on blocking.
- The times when the boss is stunned is the perfect opportunity to use potions that restore Energy, deal damage, or give you cards that you can play for free.
Recommended Builds for Each Character
- Ironclad Perfected Strike builds supported by Strength and Block cards are excellent against the Doormaker. They'll let you kill the portal fast, and the Strength stacks you build up will let you deal high damage to the giant.
- The Sovereign Blade and Stars builds for the Regent work much like the ones mentioned for the Ironclad. Stars decks tend to have better survivability, but Sovereign Blade decks usually have higher and more consistent damage output.
- Draw/Discard builds for the Silent work wonders for long, drawn-out fights. The Murder card is especially strong, as it gains power with every card you draw. Murder will eventually reach a point where it can kill portals in one or two uses, especially when combined with Shadowmeld.
- An Osty/Summon-heavy deck supported by Soul and Doom cards tend to work well with Necrobinder. Use direct attacks from Osty to deal with the portal, then build up Doom on the giant. Souls will help you search for the right cards to play.
- Frost Builds for Defect provide plenty of Block and Damage, and they only get better as a fight goes on.
