Over the last few years, anime has only gotten more mainstream. In 2026, many new and exciting anime series have made their debut so far, while others have made an exciting return. Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, as well as Jujutsu Kaisen, two of the biggest series of their generation, made a flashy comeback, but the one series that has consistently been stealing the show is the Isekai legend, Re:Zero.
On big rating platforms, the series has made its presence known already. On IMDb, for one, Re:Zero Season 4 has now officially become the highest-rated anime season of all time, surpassing all other franchises, including Fullmetal Alchemist, Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia, and others. Re:Zero is on a steady rise, and it's only going to get better with the rest of Season 4 coming each week.

When it comes to anime rating platforms, IMDb is one of the biggest of all time. Through it, fans are able to rate episodes, which in turn dictates the overall rating of a season. Getting a score of 9 or higher on IMDb is not an easy task, and most good shows end up stuck around 7 or 8, with only legendary series making it to the top. With that being said, Re:Zero, one of the biggest Isekai series of all time, has proven itself to be the best in the midst of all competition. To be clear, Re:Zero has always been a highly rated anime on IMDb. Its first season on the platform has a score of 8.5/10. Its second season did even better, earning a high score of 9/10. Its third, which premiered last year, also did amazingly and kept up with a score of 9/10.
Things have steadily improved, and Re:Zero: Starting Life in Another World Season 4 has blown everything else out of the water. On IMDb, it has acquired a score of 9.4/10. For reference, this makes it the single highest-rated anime season of all time. In comparison, the second highest-rated anime season of all time is My Hero Academia Season 8, which also has a score of 9.4, but with far fewer user ratings of 177k, compared to 590k for Re:Zero.
Overall, however, it must be noted that Re:Zero is not the highest-rated series when speaking of the cumulative average of all its seasons. That award goes to Attack on Titan, with all its installments amounting to a score of 9.1 out of 10. Re:Zero is essentially brought down by its first season, with it being the only one of the bunch to score less than 9/10. Re:Zero's score is still impressive, nonetheless, and it proves how sensational the new season has been. It has achieved this high score through extremely high-rated episodes, those being episodes 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, and 11. Against all odds, all these episodes have a score of 9.5/10 or higher. Previously, Re:Zero Season 4 even had an episode rating of 9.9/10, but it has since dropped due to mass review bombing.
Re:Zero Season 4 Has Become A Must-Watch Anime
Re:Zero is one of the most sensational series of the year. The anime, by White Fox Studio, is based on the story of the same name by Japanese author Tappei Nagatsuki. The story follows Subaru, a man who finds himself in another world far distinct from his own, with fantastical magical elements. What makes this Isekai series especially stand out is the main character Subaru’s ability. Whenever he dies, he is revived at a checkpoint and is able to tackle situations differently until he finally arrives at a satisfying result.
Re:Zero isn’t only a sensation on IMDb, but also on MyAnimeList, the biggest anime rating platform of all time. On MyAnimeList, Re:Zero Season 4 has been receiving a lot of love from fans, just like on IMDb. At the moment, it is actually the second-highest-rated anime of all time, only behind Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 1, which has held onto the throne for 3 years now. On this rating platform, Re:Zero season 4 is rated 9.11/10. With the sensational episodes coming out, we're sure it has a shot at surpassing Frieren, which is only ahead by 0.14.
All of this success with fans has definitely led us to the conclusion that Re:Zero has had one of the best runs this year. It is already the best Isekai of 2026, far overshadowing the rest, and is most certainly one of the best anime overall. At this year’s Crunchyroll Awards, it became the Best Isekai of the Year with Season 3. Next year, at the 2027 Crunchyroll Awards, it will likely win the Isekai title again, despite heavier competition from the likes of That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime and Mushoku Tensei. Subaru’s story is fully dominating, and it even has the potential to be nominated for other big awards, such as the Anime of the Year, which is the most prestigious one of the whole event.
Re: Zero’s Is Set To Receive More TV Anime Content After Season 4
Re:Zero’s future has never been so bright. While the series originally had its anime debut with its first season in 2016, it has since grown in popularity and fame, so much so that it has become one of the most recognizable anime ever, especially when looking at the Isekai category. With so much success, it goes without saying that Re:Zero will come back with more projects over the years. Gone are the times when we had to wait 6 years for a new installment of this anime.
When Re:Zero Season 4 ends, Studio White Fox will immediately move into renewing it for Season 5. For now, however, we can enjoy the remaining episodes of Re:Zero Season 4. This new season ran its first cour from April 8, 2026, to June 17, 2026. It's back in full force after a short break with its second cour, beginning its run on August 12, 2026, with 3 episodes out already. The new season should officially end on September 30, 2026. We're especially awaiting the finale of the series, which is going to be the longest episode and is set to deliver incredible action. Undoubtedly, it'll also deliver a trademark cliffhanger for us to look forward to the next season.
