Regulation M-B for Pokemon Champions added some useful new items to the game. Previously missing staples like Life Orb and Light Clay are here and have shaken up the metagame. There are now more options than before, providing some cool new combinations.
The best part is that nothing was taken out of Pokemon Champions and replaced with the new items. Not everything added was great, or will change things significantly. There are some new items that will make a permanent impact on the game, especially for double battles and VGC.
Best New Items for Regulation M-B

There are five new items that make the biggest overall impact in the game: Life Orb, Light Clay, Wide Lens, Damp Rock, and Iron Ball.
Life Orb
This item boosts the power of the holder's moves by 30%, but they lose 1/10 of their max HP each time they land an attack. This has been one of the best offensive items in competitive Pokemon for many years.
The amount of damage a Pokemon gets from Life Orb outweighs the negatives of losing HP with each hit. Sometimes, the extra damage can be the difference between getting a KO or not.
Pokemon that work well with Life Orb include:
- Garchomp
- Scizor
- Sylveon
- Basculegion
- Annihilape
- Pokemon with the Sheer Force ability
There are more, but these are just some big ones. Sheer Force users get a bigger benefit because, as long as they use a move that activates their ability, they take no damage from Life Orb. This means they get a 30% boost for free.
Light Clay
This Item extends the duration of Light Screen, Reflect, or Aurora Veil by 3 turns, to a total duration of 8 turns. This has been a staple for Grimmsnarl, who just happened to join the Pokemon Champions roster in Regulation M-B.
The extra three turns make a big difference, because it means that once you set up Reflect and Light Screen, or Aurora Veil, you shouldn't need to again for the rest of the game.
Pokemon that work well with Light Clay include:
- Grimmsnarl
- Alolan Ninetails
- Rotom
Really, any Pokemon that is used to set up screens can work well with Light Clay. It won't work for those who mega evolve, like Mega Froslass, since they need to hold a mega stone to mega evolve. It is especially good for Grimmsnarl because it has the Prankster ability, making Reflect and Light Screen priority moves.
Wide Lens
This item boosts the accuracy of the holder's moves by 10%. This may only affect certain Pokemon in specific situations, but it makes a huge impact when it does.
Pokemon that work well with Wide Lens include:
- Venusaur
- Maushold
- Vivillon
- Rotom
Venusaur gets the biggest benefit by making its Sleep Powder much more likely to hit, and has been a common item to use on regular Venusaur in the past. Maushold can use this to make Super Fang and Population Bomb almost always hit.
Even though Vivillon gets Compound Eyes, it does not guarantee Sleep Powder and Hurricane will hit, so if you want to be really safe, a Wide Lens can help. Rotom can benefit by being less likely to miss Will-O-Wisp.
Damp Rock
This item extends the duration of Rain by three turns when used by the holder's Ability or Move. This is a huge buff to Rain teams, and the newly added Mega Swampert greatly appreciates it with the Swift Swim ability.
Pokemon that work well with Damp Rock include:
- Pelipper
- Politoed
- Rain Dance users
Extending Rain to eight turns is huge for Pokemon that gain benefits while in the rain, or Water moves in general.
The weather can still be changed by the opponent, so you'll need to set the rain again if this happens.
Iron Ball
This item halves the holder's Speed Stat. It also grounds the holder, which makes Ground-type moves hit it, as well as moves that are on the ground, like Spikes.
This is mostly for Trick Room teams and makes even more Pokemon viable. Whether you need to outspeed a slower Pokemon under Trick Room, or make mid-tier Speed Pokemon slower, Iron Ball can help give that extra bit to ensure you go first.
Any Pokemon that is used as a Trick Room Sweeper can benefit from Iron Ball, except those that Mega Evolve, like Mega Golurk.
Overall, these items will be seen a lot going forward in ranked battles. They are some of the best items newly added to Regulation M-B in Pokemon Champions, and using them can help climb the ranked ladder.
