The release of Pokemon Champions on mobile brings Mega Raichu X into the battle. This is the more physically oriented Mega Raichu with the ability to set Electric Terrain. Though it may seem like a straightforward Physical Sweeper, it also works well as a support Pokemon.
This guide goes over the best stats, abilities, moves, items, and strategies for Mega Raichu X in double battles in Pokemon Champions. Before getting into that, it is important to know Mega Raichu X's role in doubles and the types of teams that best fit it.
Mega Raichu X, the Electric Surge Mega Evolution
Mega Raichu X is an Electric-type Mega evolution of Raichu, which evolves from the beloved mascot Pikachu.
Mega Raichu X's Role in Doubles
Mega Raichu X can work as a speedy Physical/Special Sweeper or Support because of its ability and move pool. The ability to set Electric Terrain when entering combat, and use great supportive moves like Fake Out and Helping Hand, makes it a very versatile Pokemon.
Mega Raichu X has access to a very strong Physical STAB Electric move in Volt Tackle. This means it can hit very hard as an Attacker meant to take out specific threats, like Mega Charizard Y.
Mega Raichu X's Stats
- HP: 60
- Attack: 135
- Defense: 95
- Special Attack: 90
- Special Defense: 95
- Speed: 110
Mega Raichu X has very high Attack and a high Speed. It also has a decent Special Attack, so it could be used as a Special Sweeper. It has decent defenses, but low HP, which makes it dangerous to use Volt Tackle. In double battles and VGC, it will need some great supportive Pokemon to enable it to get the most out of its attacks.
Mega Raichu X's Ability
Mega Raichu X has only one ability. When Raichu Mega Evolves to the X version, it gets the Electric Surge ability. This activates Electric Terrain for 5 turns. Electric Terrain prevents Pokemon from being put to sleep and wakes them up if they are asleep. It also powers up Electric-type moves.
One of the biggest benefits of Electric Terrain is the Electric-type move, Rising Voltage. This is a Special Attack, and its power is doubled in Electric Terrain. This makes it a 140 power move. Even though Mega Raichu X's best stat is Attack, raising Special Attack is still an option to take advantage of Electric Terrain.
Best Mega Raichu X Builds in Pokemon Champions
There are a few different ways to build Mega Raichu X, so the EV Spread, Nature, etc. will change accordingly. There is only one held item, Raichunite X. This is required to mega evolve.
Make sure that the Y version isn't holding the Raichunite X!
Physical/Special Sweeper EV Spread and Nature
- 2 HP
- 32 Attack/32 Special Attack
- 32 Speed
Physical Sweeper leans into Mega Raichu X's huge Attack stat and takes advantage of its Speed. Putting the last points in HP just gives it more survivability.
Special Sweeper is basically the same, just swap Attack for Special Attack. This takes advantage of using Rising Voltage in Electric Terrain.
For Physical, Jolly is the best Nature, but Adamant can work as well. Since its HP is so low, Mega Raichu X needs to go first, since even a single hit can often KO it. For Special, Timid is the best Nature, or Modest for the extra Special Attack.
Support EV Spread and Nature
- 32 HP
- 9 Defense
- 25 Speed
Support Mega Raichu X focuses on more survivability while still being decently fast to use its moves. Max HP to last longer, 25 Speed is to specifically outspeed Jolly Garchomp, and the rest in Defense to take more physical hits.
Timid is the best Nature for Support since Mega Raichu X still wants to outspeed threats when offering support. Other Natures could work that increase Speed, but Timid has no downside since this set doesn't use Physical attacks.
Mega Raichu X's Best Movesets
The Best Physical Sweeper Moveset is:
- Volt Tackle
- Play Rough
- Protect
- Fake Out
Volt Tackle is a powerful 120 base power Physical electric-type move. It has a 10% chance to paralyze, but the user takes 1/3 recoil damage. Great for taking out threats, but can get Mega Raichu X KO'd because of its low HP.
Play Rough is a strong Physical Fairy-type attack. It is a powerful coverage move against Pokemon like Garchomp and has a chance to lower the opponent's Attack. The only downside is that it has 90 percent accuracy, so it can miss.
Protect is for stopping powerful moves that could KO Mega Raichu X. Since it is so frail, it is important to stop attacks that might target its slot.
Fake Out is a Priority move that makes the opponent flinch, but can only be used on the first turn it is in battle. Mega Raichu X is fast, so it is likely to get it out before other Fake Out users.
The Best Special Sweeper Moveset is:
- Rising Voltage
- Volt Switch
- Protect
- Fake Out
Rising Voltage takes advantage of Electric Terrain and becomes its strongest Electric Type move. This allows Mega Raichu X to immediately do a ton of damage as soon as it mega evolves.
Volt Switch allows it to retreat while still doing a good chunk of damage. It is important to always have Electric Terrain up, so this allows Mega Raichu to leave, then come back to set it up once it disappears.
The Best Support Moveset is:
- Rain Dance
- Helping Hand
- Electro Web
- Protect
Rain Dance turns the weather to rain, powering up Water-type moves and providing other benefits. The combination of this plus Electric Terrain makes Rain Team Pokemon like Archaludon very strong.
Helping Hand boosts the power of an ally's moves by 50% for that turn. Combining this with a strong partner Pokemon can get enough extra damage to KO opponents.
Electro Web does not deal much damage, but it hits both opponents and lowers their Speed by one stage. Mega Raichu's Speed can allow it to go before the opponent, then allow your other Pokemon to outspeed them without the need for Tailwind.
Best Team Support for Mega Raichu X
Rain teams are where Mega Raichu X will excel. Whether going full support, or being a Sweeper, Mega Raichu X will greatly benefit from other Pokemon that work well in the rain.
Pelipper and Archaludon are the best Pokemon to put on the team. Pelipper sets the rain, which is helpful even if Mega Raichu X also has Rain Dance. Archaludon gets the biggest benefit. Rain makes its Electro Shot hit without charging for one turn, and Electric Terrain will power up the move even further.
A strong Physical Sweeper, like Basculegion, can take advantage of the rain and take out Ground-type threats to Mega Raichu X. Sneasler can also be a helpful option because of Fake Out and its strong Dire Claw and Close Combat moves.
Sinistcha can provide valuable support by redirecting with Rage Powder and healing Mega Raichu X because of Sinistcha's Hospitality ability.
Grimmsnarl is another newly added support option. It can put up Light Screen and Reflect to reduce damage, and, since it has the Prankster ability, those become priority moves.
