Pals will automatically go to work in Palworld after you deploy them in your base. They'll do whatever tasks they can get their hands and pawns on, but if you want to assign specific Pals to specific tasks, you'll have to lift them up and throw them at the workstation you want them to man. This reduces the chaos in your Palworld bases significantly, and it makes sure that your production lines don't ever get interrupted because your Pals decided to go and do something else.
How to Manually Assign Pals in Palworld
All you have to do is walk up to a Pal, pick them up, and toss them at any compatible workstation. Once they land, an exclamation mark will appear above their head, and shortly after that, they'll start working. You can also use this method to force workaholic Pals to rest and regain their Sanity. If you notice any of your Pals are working themselves to the brink of madness, just pick them up and toss them at a bed or any of your healthcare buildings.
Pals will often take breaks once they get tired, so don't be surprised if you see them having a nice stroll across your base from time to time. However, you may notice that sometimes, your manually-assigned Pals will start doing other tasks around your base when needed. This can be pretty annoying, but thankfully, you can keep them from doing this by using the Monitoring Stand.
Don't forget to deploy your Pals first by interacting with your base's Palbox
How to Use the Monitoring Stand in Palworld
Once you reach level 7, you'll be able to unlock the Monitoring Stand in the tech tree, and to build one, all you need is Wood and Stone. Place a Monitoring Stand anywhere on your base, then approach it to find three options:
- Set Work Mode lets you choose how hard your Pals will work without taking any breaks. Higher workloads will increase productivity at the cost of Pal Sanity.
- Set Work Preferences shows a window containing all working Pals in your base as well as their preferred work types. Here, you can check or cross-out boxes to determine what types of work your Pals should or should not be doing.
- Fixed Assignment Management is where you can directly assign Pals to specific workstation. It's like the manual assignment method, but much more convenient.

In the image above, I assigned my EIkthyrdeer and Lifmunks to my Logging Site using the Fixed Assignment Management function from the Monitoring Station. Then, in the Set Work Preferences window, I made it so that the three Pals would only ever work on Logging tasks. This all but guarantees that my Eikthyrdeer and Lifmunks will only ever chop trees for me.
I strongly recommend building a Monitoring Stand as soon as you can to make base management easier. These are especially useful for bases that produce a bunch of different stuff at once.
