Since debuting in 1997's Killing Floor, Jack Reacher has become one of the most beloved action heroes, spawning more than 30 novels, two feature films, and an incredibly successful three-season show starring Alan Ritchson. While the 2022 TV series has introduced a new generation of fans to the iconic drifter, Lee Child's books have always remained the heart of the series. Reacher fans may still be waiting for Season 4 and the upcoming Neagley spinoff, but they don't have to wait much longer for the character's next adventure, as he's officially receiving a new story where he started: on the page.

There's no signs of Reacher running out of steam any time soon, as the former military police major is set to return in a brand-new story this October, with Lee Child and his brother Andrew Child releasing Chain Reaction, the 31st book in the series. Chain Reaction marks the seventh novel co-authored by Andrew Child, after The Sentinel, Better off Dead, No Plan B, The Secret, In Too Deep, and Exit Strategy.

Chain Reaction Will Release on October 20, 2026

Once again written by Lee Child and Andrew Child, Chain Reaction will release on October 20 and marks the latest chapter in the character's decades-long story. The book is already available for pre-order in multiple formats, including hardcover, audiobook, e-book, and paperback editions, giving fans plenty of ways to dive into Reacher's next tale as soon as it arrives. The official synopsis has revealed plenty of interesting details about Chain Reaction.

This time, Reacher is drawn into a new mystery by Washington DC. General Susan Turner, a fan-favorite character who played a major role in Never Go Back. Turner reaches out when a team member is murdered during a covert operation, but she doesn't trust anyone within her own organization to investigate. Reacher is led to a remote community named Summertown in Colorado, which is dominated by data centers and solar farms, where powerful enemies likely keep their secrets buried.

Reacher Fans Can't Wait For Susan Turner's Return

Cobie Smulders as Susan Turner in Jack Reacher: Never Go Back

Susan Turner is undoubtedly one of the most important Jack Reacher characters. Book fans will remember her longstanding connection to the former Military Police Major throughout Never Go Back and 61 Hours, while movie fans will remember her inclusion in Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016), played by Cobie Smulders. In those early appearances, Turner is the new Commanding Officer of the US Army 110th MP Special Investigations Unit.

The character is briefly mentioned in Reacher Season 3, Episode 1, "Persuader," when Reacher calls Powell and asks for her. Unfortunately for book fans, the character was undercover, so she didn't make an appearance in the Prime Video show. Reacher fans are already patiently waiting for Season 4 and the upcoming Neagley spinoff, which are set to release some time this year. Still, neither show has yet confirmed a release date, but with Chain Reaction officially available on October 20, Jack Reacher fans have a lot to look forward to.
