Sorcerers are the main focus of the Jujutsu Kaisen story, and among them, there are some whose strength exists at the highest level in the series. As such, the strongest sorcerers in the world are typically designated into the grading system, with the Special Grades being the strongest of them all.
Comparatively, no time in the Jujutsu Kaisen story was filled with characters who either belonged to, or were approaching, the Special Grade tier than in the many centuries before the story began. These are the most powerful ancient characters in the entire story and some of the strongest figures in all of Jujutsu Kaisen.
9 Dhruv Lakdawalla Was a Part of the Sendai Deadlock
Cursed Technique: Shikigami Control
Dhruv is the oldest known sorcerer in the entire series, said to be initially active close to 2000 years before the start of the main story. In his time, he controlled all of Japan during the Civil War of Wa, showing that his strength had always been incredibly formidable.
Even more interesting, Dhruv is stated to be in his second reincarnation during the Culling Game, and while nothing is known about his first, he made incredible waves during the event due to the Sendai Colony Deadlock. Though he was effortlessly killed by Yuta, Dhruv still goes down as a notably powerful sorcerer.
8 Angel Has the Strongest Technique in the Series
Cursed Technique: Technique Extinguishment
Although she is far from the strongest character in the series from a general standpoint, Angel boasts the single most powerful Cursed Technique in all of Jujutsu Kaisen. The reason for this is that her Cursed Technique has the power to completely nullify the technique of anyone it is used against.
Through Jacob's Ladder, even Gojo's ultimate defense, the Infinity, would be declared useless, making Technique Extinguishment the most powerful technique of them all. However, aside from this, Angel isn't particularly powerful, and her Cursed Energy manipulation isn't anything noteworthy, so her technique is reason alone to put her on this list.

7 Takako Uro Was Quite Powerful in the Heian Era
Cursed Technique: Sky Manipulation

The Heian Era is known as the Golden Age of Sorcery, due to hard living conditions forcing everyone to develop their strength to unprecedented levels in order to survive. As such, this led to the most powerful general population of sorcerers in the series being active at the same time, which in turn forced others to get even stronger.
Uro was one such character, who was a part of an elite group of assassins called the Sun, Moon, and Stars Clan. Her technique, Sky Manipulation, is incredibly versatile and powerful, allowing her to be a part of the 3-way Sendai Deadlock and fight particularly well against Yuta Okkotsu. Yuta would later steal this technique to add to his own arsenal.
6 Ryu Ishigori Has the Greatest Cursed Energy Output Ever
Cursed Technique: Cursed Energy Discharge

Out of every character in the history of Jujutsu Kaisen, Ryu Ishigori holds the title of having the greatest Cursed Energy output of all time. As one of the strongest sorcerers of the Edo Period, Ryu's technique simply took his immense Cursed Energy and let it out in a massive wave that could destroy anything in its path.
Just like Dhruv and Uro, Ryu was a part of the Sendai Deadlock, but he put up a much better fight against Yuta, proving himself to be the strongest of the three. With Cursed Energy output even greater than that of Sukuna and Gojo, Ryu can easily be considered one of the strongest ancient sorcerers in the setting.
5 Yorozu Was One of the Heian Era's Greatest Sorcerers
Cursed Technique: Construction

When fans were first introduced to the Construction Cursed Technique, it was through Mai Zenin, who, due to her pitifully low Cursed Energy reserves, couldn't make the technique viable in any sense. However, Yorozu wasn't burdened by the same limitations, due to which she could use her vast Cursed Energy reserves to make Construction an immensely powerful technique.
With this power, Yorozu was capable of creating massive and complex shapes, armor, and objects that were incredibly powerful, allowing her to fight Sukuna on relative terms. Her ultimate technique, the True Sphere, is arguably the most powerful attack in Jujutsu Kaisen, as its perfect shape and infinite density can crush anything it comes into contact with.
4 Hajime Kashimo Was the Strongest of the Edo Period
Cursed Technique: Mythical Beast Amber

As the owner of one of the most deadly Cursed Techniques in the story, Kashimo is remembered as the strongest of the Edo Period. Though his technique is immensely powerful, for most of his time in the series, Kashimo only fought with his control and mastery over his own Cursed Energy, which worked similarly to lightning.
Even though he didn't have a Domain, the lightning Cursed Energy that he emitted had a sure-hit property anyway, which made him one of the strongest characters in Jujutsu Kaisen. With his one-time-use Mythical Beast Amber technique, he overwhelmed Sukuna's vessel form, forcing the King of Curses to awaken his True Form to take him out.
3 Uraume Is an Incredibly Strong Elemental Powerhouse
Cursed Technique: Ice Manipulation

Back in the Heian Era, Uraume served as Sukuna's only real companion due to their ability to cook and preserve meat. This was done through their Ice Manipulation technique, which allowed them to physically manifest their Cursed Energy into massive ice formations that were powerful and durable enough to trap many powerful sorcerers in place.
Despite Uraume mostly being known for their job as Sukuna's cook, the truth is that they are one of the most powerful Special Grade sorcerers in history, as the Ice Manipulation Cursed Technique allows them to create formations the size of mountains. All of this, paired with their generally high Cursed Energy reserves and ability to use Reverse Cursed Technique, makes them very strong.
2 Kenjaku Was the Mastermind Behind the Entire Series
Cursed Technique: Brain Transplant

Kenjaku is considered by many to be the true villain and ultimate mastermind behind the events of the series. This character is impossibly ancient, implied to be even older than Sukuna due to the deal he made with Dhruv. With all that age also comes experience, which was shown in Kenjaku's battles throughout the story.
His own innate technique is Brain Transplant, which allows him to supplant his brain into others' bodies in order to take full control of them. Through these means, Kenjaku gains access to their Cursed Techniques as well, and by the time of the series, he is able to use multiple Cursed Techniques at the same time. Alongside his Open Domain, these things make Kenjaku one of the strongest characters in the franchise.
1 Ryomen Sukuna Is the Most Powerful Sorcerer in History
Cursed Technique: Shrine

In a world filled with incredibly powerful curses and even stronger sorcerers, Sukuna stands alone as the one above them all due to his unrivaled strength. Hailing from the Heian Era, this man had to grow up in an unforgiving world filled with the strongest Cursed Spirits and sorcerers around, forcing him to climb up the hierarchy of strength just to survive.
However, he ended up thriving by becoming the most powerful user of Cursed Energy to ever be born, which led to people often revering him as a God or fearing him as a walking calamity. In his entire life, he was only ever matched by one man, Satoru Gojo. However, despite the trouble he went through to beat him, Sukuna ended up killing even the strongest sorcerer of the modern day, cementing himself as the strongest sorcerer of all time.
