If you think back to last year, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was gaming's worst-kept secret. Despite the lack of an official announcement, a steady stream of leaks and rumors flooded the internet. They were, of course, true, and the game was released on April 22, 2025.

However, the initial excitement was marred by frustration: in typical Bethesda fashion, the game was full of bugs. A year later, as tech experts Digital Foundry explained, the game remained broken.

Revealed in February, with its release date confirmed last month, Oblivion Remastered is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. The initial trailer did not look great, and there were fears among Oblivion and Elder Scrolls fans, but those fears may be unfounded. A new comment from Bethesda has revealed that certain fixes introduced in the Switch 2 version will soon make their way to PC and Console.

I think even the most hardcore Oblivion Remastered fans had given up hope that the game would ever be fixed. It has been over 15 months since it was released, and its last patch was over a year ago. Only 47 percent of its recent Steam reviews and a pretty meager 78 percent of its all-time reviews have been positive. There may be light at the end of the very long tunnel, though.

Following the recent news that Bethesda was hit with the "biggest cuts" among Xbox studios, losing half of the The Elder Scrolls Online team, along with the artist responsible for Khajiit and Argonians, YouTuber MrMattyPlays fired off a stream of questionsto the company. While responses were shut down or filled with PR speak, there was one that offered a glimmer of hope for Oblivion Remastered's faithful audience.

MattyPlays asked Bethesda, "Are there any planned updates for the Oblivion Remaster from a patch/fix angle to coincide with the Switch 2 release in August, or has support for the title concluded?"

Bethesda responded: "Nothing we can talk about right now, but the team working on remasters is focused on the Switch 2 launch, which has optimizations we hope to bring back to console/PC."

Although there are no hard answers on when the patch will come to consoles and PC, or in fact even if it will, given that it says "we hope", it's a small beacon of light. The Switch 2 is notoriously a surprisingly powerful piece of kit, so any enhancements from that version of the game would surely be welcomed for the console and PC players who have suffered for so long.

Following the layoffs, Bethesda will solely focus on Fallout and Elder Scrolls titles, if rumors are to be believed. It confirmed long-running rumors that remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are in the works. We just have to hope they launch in a better state than Oblivion's.
