  • Dolly’s influence extends far beyond her music. Through her generosity, philanthropy, and gift for bringing people together, she touched countless lives. We are deeply grateful for her support of Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, and for the lasting difference she has made in the health of our communities.

Dolly Parton’s support of Vanderbilt Health and Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt spanned decades and made meaningful impacts on everything from pediatric cancer care to infectious disease research. “Dolly was a global icon and a friend of Vanderbilt. Her amazing generosity, particularly in pediatric cancer and infectious disease research, has had a transformational impact on patient care and treatment,” said Jeff Balser, MD, PhD, President and CEO of Vanderbilt Health and Dean of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. “It’s not an exaggeration to say that Dolly has helped save countless lives through her philanthropy.” Read here about her support of everything from pediatric cancer care to infectious disease research at Vanderbilt Health. https://lnkd.in/eFPHCkNh

  • At our last quarterly Vanderbilt Health Employer Advisory Council session, this was the exact topic the members asked to revisit, which we will be discussing at our upcoming meeting. As we continue to see more specialty drug options enter the market and oral GLP-1s expand treatment options, employers are exploring different coverage approaches and weighing the implications on workforce recruitment, retention, affordability and overall benefits strategy. Are employers viewing GLP-1 coverage as a strategic investment or will affordability concerns lead to more selective approaches? #GLP1 #BenefitsStrategy #VHES #VanderbiltHealthEmployerSolutions #EmployerAdvisoryCouncil Business Group on Health

As demand rises and oral GLP-1s enter the market, employers are poised to make meaningful coverage decisions. Some indicate they will continue coverage as part of a long-term obesity and chronic disease strategy, while others are signaling potential pullbacks. This snapshot highlights how GLP-1 coverage may shift in the near future.

  • HR and benefits leaders were never meant to carry the weight of employee mental health alone. As conversations around mental health become more open in the workplace, many benefits professionals are finding themselves supporting employees through deeply personal challenges. While this openness is a positive step forward, it also highlights the need for expert mental health resources that can provide specialized guidance and support. Great perspective from Donna Corsi Skupien on how organizations can better support both employees and the leaders who care for them. #MentalHealth #WorkplaceWellness #BenefitsStrategy #VHES

The role of a Benefits Manager is changing. Last week, I was talking with the Benefits Manager of a large national employer who shared something she’s seeing more and more in today’s workplace. After nearly 20 years in benefits, she finds herself having conversations she never expected to be having. Younger employees are increasingly comfortable discussing mental health challenges at work. They’re seeking support, sharing struggles, and approaching these conversations with a level of openness that previous generations often did not. She told me she’s grateful for the trust. In many ways, it’s a sign of progress. The stigma surrounding mental health continues to decrease, and employees are more willing to ask for help when they need it. But she also shared a concern. While she genuinely cares about her employees and wants to help, she doesn’t always feel equipped to navigate some of the complex situations being brought to her. She’s a benefits professional, not a mental health clinician. And she’s not alone. Many HR and benefits leaders are finding themselves on the front lines of employee mental health challenges, carrying responsibilities they were never trained to manage. This is where having access to a dedicated mental health professional can make a meaningful difference. A qualified counselor or mental health professional can provide: ✅ A confidential and trusted resource for employees ✅ Professional guidance during difficult life events and periods of uncertainty ✅ Appropriate support beyond what managers, HR, and benefits teams are trained to provide ✅ Relief for organizational leaders who want to help but need expert partners ✅ Meaningful support during mental health challenges Supporting employee mental health shouldn't rest solely on the shoulders of HR and benefits teams. If you're seeing similar challenges in your organization, let's connect. I'd love to discuss how organizations are providing employees with the professional mental health support they need while supporting the leaders who care so deeply about them. #MentalHealth #EmployeeBenefits #HumanResources #Leadership #WorkplaceWellness #BenefitsManagement #EmployerHealth

In a recent interview, Deputy CEO and Chief Health System Officer Jane Freedman, MD, reflected on what it means for Vanderbilt Health to grow alongside its communities. Here are three ways Freedman believes the health system is reshaping regional health care: • “We’re more than a centralized campus; we’re not a hub-and-spoke.” Regional Hospitals — Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital, Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital, Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital and Vanderbilt Clarksville Hospital — are not secondary outposts. They are pillars of care for their communities, ensuring patients don't have to travel to Nashville’s 21st Avenue Campus for essential medical needs. • We realize “every community is different.” Whether it’s bringing specialized pediatric and cardiac care to fast-growing Montgomery County, or expanding telehealth where rural hospitals have closed, care must be tailored to each community’s needs. • “Building community trust is vital.” That means elevating standards across all of Vanderbilt Health, from changing staffing ratios to extending cafeteria hours. It also means adding inpatient beds, specialties or urgent care clinics where they’re needed most. "It’s all to help the patients of Tennessee, and particularly Middle Tennessee,” Freedman said. • A small glimpse into the meaningful, lasting difference our Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network team creates for patients every day. #VHAN #PatientImpact #WholePersonCare #CIN #PopulationHealth

When VHAN Care Management team member Cheryl Landis, RN, called a patient who had recently been discharged from the hospital after a stroke, the goal was simple: Make sure she had what she needed to recover safely at home. The patient had moved from the hospital to a small camping trailer parked on a friend’s property. She was living alone while trying to manage new right-sided weakness and regain her independence. What Cheryl uncovered in that first call, though, was something far more urgent. Read our story to learn how Cheryl worked closely with social worker Jackie Davis to help the patient unlock accessibility resources that improved her life: https://bit.ly/4eJ87xs
