ABOUT HEAVISIDE INDUSTRIES
Heaviside Industries delivers advanced technological capabilities for the U.S. and allied defense industry. Heaviside’s team brings deep experience engineering and manufacturing defense products, putting advanced tech on the battlefield and into the hands of warfighters. Heaviside gives warfighters multi-domain capabilities with a product portfolio that spans land, air, sea, and space.
These capabilities are critical to protecting our freedom and require urgency. While much of the defense industry is mired in decades-long development cycles, the Heaviside team is architected to deliver world-class, battle-tested products to our customers at speed and scale.
We are looking for builders who want to create step changes in technology for those who protect us all.
If you are a visionary who wants to solve complex problems, save lives, and see your work make a difference in the world, join us at the Heaviside.
ABOUT THE POSITION
At Heaviside Industries, the Senior Software Embedded Engineer is responsible for the critical software layer that drives our hardware products. Your role involves the full lifecycle of embedded development, from initial hardware bring-up to the implementation of sophisticated control algorithms that must perform reliably in contested environments. We seek an engineer who combines technical rigor with a practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving.
The ideal candidate is a disciplined professional who takes ownership of the entire integration process. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to bridge the gap between complex research and the delivery of robust, field-ready systems. This position requires a commitment to mission success and the ability to validate hardware performance in real-world conditions to ensure our products meet the urgent needs of our customers.
This is an onsite position in Marina Del Rey, California.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Graduate degree in a field of hard science, mathematics, or engineering or equivalent work experience
- Ability to read and understand component datasheets and electronic schematics
- Proficiency in C and/or C++
- Experience with both software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing
- Experience developing control algorithms (e.g., PID, cascaded, or model-based) for mechatronic systems
- Familiarity with kinematics, sensor calibration, and closed-loop motion control
- Experience bringing up RF, high power products
- Hands-on experience integrating IMUs, encoders, and motor drivers in embedded environments
- Experience with RTOSs, bare-metal firmware, or other hard-real-time systems
- Familiarity with interrupts, DMA, timers, and serial protocols (SPI, I²C, CAN)
- Strong debugging skills with oscilloscopes and logic analyzers
- Insatiable yearning to learn how to become a better programmer
- [BONUS] Proficiency in Python
