Wendy Lea reposted thisWendy Lea reposted thisYes! Techstars Boulder and the University of Colorado Boulder have partnered to support a new generation of entrepreneurs. I’m so delighted to be working more closely with the fantastic team at Techstars Boulder! Over the years, there have been many organic connections between CU Boulder and Techstars – Silicon Flatirons Center for Law, Technology, and Entrepreneurship, the New Venture Challenge, Venture Partners at CU Boulder companies - and now we are elevating to a new level. If you are a founder or student in CU Boulder community, this means closer ties to the Techstars Boulder team, accelerator, mentors, and companies. If you are an investor or mentor with Techstars, this means deeper deal flow and plugging into the university’s spinout engine. Personally, I am so excited to work with Shay ('shy') Har-Noy, who’s steering the Techstars Boulder program. I also feel grateful to Techstars founders and builders for their patience and encouragement getting us to this point: Brad Feld, David Cohen, David Brown, Nicole Glaros, and Natty Zola. Same goes for the builders on the CU Boulder side, like Brad Bernthal, Phil Weiser, and so many more. We’re part of the same community and startup family. We’ve collaborated on deals, had our kids in school together, and now we’re more formally combining our strengths! https://lnkd.in/gqJTu36C CU Boulder Innovation & Entrepreneurship Initiative

Wendy Lea shared thisI've recently joined the Sundance Institute as a #Colorado Ambassador. I’m supporting the Institute and the Festival by building community and growing audiences. My work has always centered on activating places where people and ideas thrive. Economic vitality isn't just about capital and infrastructure; it's about culture, creativity, and the connective tissue that makes a community a great place to live. Boulder has always understood that. And the arrival of the #Sundance Film Festival in January 2027 is, to me, one of the most significant place-making moments in our state. Most people know the #Sundance Film Festival as an annual event. What few know is that the Festival is the culminating celebration of a year-round nonprofit that has shaped American culture for over 40 years. The Sundance Institute is where many talented and underrepresented filmmakers got their start through labs, grants, and mentorship. And because of this support and the subsequent support that followed, independent filmmakers have created stories that have changed us. We aren't just welcoming an event to #Colorado. We are building a permanent home for independent storytelling in the Rockies, and with it, the creative economy, the civic energy, and the global attention that follows. I've also spent most of my career at the intersection of innovation and community. This is my chance to do the same at the intersection of community and art, and I’m thrilled to serve as an ambassador. I’m working with Dana Bacardi, other community leaders, and early donors to build the Colorado Ambassador community ahead of the Festival’s debut here. We’re gathering a passionate group of people who care about independent storytelling and its role in shaping culture and community. There are a few ways to get involved: - Learn more about membership and year-round engagement - Join or host a small Salon gathering - Get connected with other Ambassadors (in Colorado or beyond) - Explore volunteer opportunities Dana and I would be glad to connect if you’d like to learn more.

I've watched this exact movie four times - the Internet was a toy, web software didn't work, the cloud wasn't safe, and mobile would never replace a computer. Srikar Reddy, Consul General of the Consulate General of India in San Francisco, for a strategic roundtable focused on bilateral trade and investment opportunities. The economic data underscores the strength of this relationship: 🔹 Trade Volume: Colorado's trade with India has experienced a substantial 108% growth over the last five years. 🔹 Key Investment: We are observing increasing bidirectional investment activity, notably within the advanced aerospace sector. This commercial strength is supported by deep human and academic ties, including approximately 24,000 Indian-born Colorado residents and several partnership agreements between Colorado universities and institutions in India. A thoughtful roundtable discussion with our key partners was essential to driving this collaboration forward. 🎉 Big News for ECM & Community Supports Providers in California! During last week’s Behavioral Health Stakeholder Advisory Committee (BH-SAC) meeting, DHCS shared critical updates that many of us have been waiting for — and it’s a major win for those working across Medi-Cal programs. 🛡️ Enhanced Care Management (ECM) and 12 out of the 15 Community Supports (CS) will continue after December 31, 2026, without needing a new Section 1115 waiver. Instead: ✅ ECM will remain as part of the Medicaid managed care framework, continuing under care coordination and continuity of care responsibilities for Managed Care Plans (MCPs). ✅ 12 Community Supports will be offered through In Lieu of Services (ILOS) — a huge shift that means they’ll no longer be subject to 1115 or 1915(b) waiver requirements. These include: • Nursing Facility Transition/Diversion to Assisted Living or RCFE • Day Habilitation Programs • Community Transition Services/NF Transition to a Home • Personal Care and Homemaker Services • Environmental Accessibility Adaptations • Meals/Medically Supportive Food • Respite Services • Sobering Centers • Asthma Remediation • Housing Supports: -Housing Transition Navigation Services -Housing Deposits -Housing Tenancy and Sustaining Services 📌 Transitional Rent remains secure under the BH-CONNECT 1115 waiver, which doesn’t expire until Dec 31, 2029. 📌 Recuperative Care and Short-term Post-Hospitalization Housing are not currently covered under ILOS. DHCS is pursuing a new waiver to support their continuation. 📌 DHCS is also seeking to add reentry services — 90 days of pre-release healthcare and care coordination — to the next 1115 waiver. 🔍 What this means for our clients and communities: This decision protects critical services that address housing instability, chronic illness, recovery, and family caregiving — and helps ensure continuity of care beyond 2026. Providers can now plan with more clarity and less uncertainty. At Mayeda Consulting, we’ll be following waiver developments and offering support to organizations as they prepare for implementation changes. Let’s keep building care systems that are people-centered, sustainable, and responsive. 📄 Reference: https://lnkd.in/ghu6Tn8m #CalAIM #ECM #CommunitySupports #MediCal #BehavioralHealth #HealthEquity #WaiverPolicy #DHCS #CareCoordination #SystemsChange #MayedaConsulting

How did a small city like the City of Corona become a surprising innovation hub for AI? In our latest GovAI podcast, I sat down with Chris McMasters, CIO of Corona, California. After nearly two decades in the private sector, Chris made the leap into government—driven by a sense of purpose to serve. Our conversation tackled a big question: why does government often lag in adopting new technologies like AI? Chris explained it’s not about chasing the latest tech—it’s about protecting the people they serve and ensuring any new tool actually makes a difference. The key? Build trust first, then show—not tell—how technology can help. Chris believes AI won’t replace people—it’ll free them to focus on what humans do best. His vision: a future where city services are as seamless as ordering from Amazon, with AI agents removing the red tape. For anyone working in GovTech, or trying to break in, you'll learn a lot from this conversation. 🔗 Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/dzNed-ZP or listen here: https://lnkd.in/dhpwW_-8

Their AI-powered giving platform helps nonprofits create seamless, data-driven donor journeys, from one-click donations to automated engagement and retention tools. 2026 federal funding update for ecosystem builders A week ago I wrote about where federal innovation funding stands for 2026. Here's what's changed in 7 days: What's now signed into law: The Commerce, Justice, and Science bill passed the Senate 82-15 on January 15 and is headed to the president's desk. This locks in: NSF → $8.75 billion (with protection against disproportionate cuts to any directorate) → Regional Innovation Engines: Up to $200 million EDA → Tech Hubs: $41 million → Build to Scale: $50 million → MEP: $175 million What passed the House, awaiting Senate action: The Financial Services bill passed 341-79 on January 14, confirming: SBA → Entrepreneurial development: $330 million (Congress rejected the proposed cut to $150M) → Regional Innovation Clusters: $9M → Federal and State Technology Partnership (FAST): $9M → Growth Accelerator Fund Competition: $9M What's still in flux: Leaders just released a final bipartisan package for Defense, Homeland Security, Labor-HHS-Education, and Transportation-HUD. The House may vote this week, with the January 30, 2026 deadline approaching. SBIR/STTR authorization remains expired. No new solicitations until reauthorization—though there's been some movement here. There's also a bunch of new AI policy I need to dig into still. The bottom line hasn't changed: You cannot build a 10-year innovation ecosystem on annual appropriations battles. The regions that succeed are strengthening their partnership infrastructure now, and leveraging federal funding as a bonus to accelerate outcomes. See the full analysis: https://lnkd.in/euDxDVkZ

Nonprofits should treat leadership transitions as strategic moments, having a clear succession plan and aligning teams around core values. But the key to success is communication: keep staff, donors, and stakeholders informed with transparency and purpose. Framing the change as part of the mission builds trust.
