Introducing Side Quest: a maker studio where teenagers bring their own idea and turn it into something real. No set curriculum, no pre-picked medium. The idea drives everything. Before I launch the full four-week program, I'm running a free pilot workshop in Brooklyn this April. 3 hours, 5 teens, one idea each. Your teen submits their idea when they sign up, and they leave with something they made. Sascha Mombartz shared thisI'm thinking about starting an evening maker studio for teenagers (ages 11–14) in Brooklyn. The idea: your teen walks in with something they want to make — a board game, a campaign poster, a website, a product prototype — and over four weeks, we help them turn it into something real. I'm trying to decide if its totally open ended of if there are themes, like design and print a poster for a local cause, or a zine about a topic you're excited about. Would love to hear what you think about this idea and which approach is better!

I fully rebuilt it and its now better than ever, giving you stats about your community (posts per week, most active users and more) as well as being able to pass chat transcripts to an LLM for summarizing or working with the content. Glisten (formerly GLSEN) is a national advocacy organization founded in 1990 by educators to advance justice for LGBTQ+ youth. The new website, nominated for 'Best Website for Belonging & Inclusion' prioritizes the different needs of students, educators, researchers, policymakers, and advocates. Sascha Mombartz liked thisSascha Mombartz liked thisMarc Andreessen says he aims for "zero introspection". In a recent conversation with David Senra, he said that..."introspection and therapy and all the things that...result from that are…manufactured in the 1910s, 1920s." He added that "great men of history didn't sit around doing this stuff." I call bullshit. Buddhist practitioners have spent more than 2,500 years developing systematic practices for observing thoughts, feelings, and mental states. That's not a modern fad manufactured in the 1920s — it's one of the oldest human traditions we have. If introspection gets in the way of 'success', someone forgot to tell Marcus Aurelius, who 2,000 years ago wrote Meditations — a private journal of ruthless self-examination and moral reminders — while ruling what many consider the golden age of the Roman Empire. But what really got me was what he said a few minutes later: "Anybody can… start, build a product, start a company, you know, start, even try to be a VC. These are all completely open fields. And it's shocking to me how few people actually give it a shot." To say "anyone" can become a VC without even a nod to how much privilege, network, and capital it actually takes is exactly what "zero introspection" looks like in practice. I say that as someone who also stands on a lot of privilege. The difference is that reflection keeps me grounded in that fact — and pushes me to use it in service of something meaningful, instead of pretending it doesn't exist. Looking inward isn't a distraction from execution — it's how I reconnect with why I'm building in the first place and the impact I seek to create. So no, I don't think the answer is "zero introspection." Especially not for the people building AI, tech platforms, and infrastructure the rest of us rely on. Please tell me I'm not alone.

Comprised of both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, this cohort represents a diverse cross-section of New York City's artistic and cultural communities. Beyond the nuts and bolts of supporting the growth of these enterprises, ABI will explore the best practices associated with running a startup in the arts.
