Rachel Goldflam shared thisLoved being a part of the Hannah Grey VC Cultural Vibrations Journal - thank you Jessica Peltz-Zatulove for the opportunity to spread some optimism for 2025 marketers!Rachel Goldflam shared this🔮 Excited to share the Annual Hannah Grey VC Cultural Vibrations Journal: Shifting Ground 2025! Link to download the content in the comments below. The 2025 Cultural Vibrations Journal explores the speed of technological advancement and its collective impact. We’re thrilled to introduce the Vibrations Index, tracking cultural readiness for emerging technologies through proprietary longitudinal research on shifting perceptions and interests. This research-driven approach includes a growing pool of 275+ data points that uncover early demand, interest shifts, and potential adoption curves. As AI acceptance grows, how will we evolve—personally, professionally, and as a society—in response to ambitions and concerns around emerging technologies? This is not a time for conventional thinking; societies and cultures are shape-shifting before our eyes. It’s our collective responsibility to manage our relationship with the algorithm and determine how we harness innovation for ourselves, our families, our communities, and our businesses. As an early-stage venture capital firm, our team explored these tensions to understand the ripple effects and sharpen our lens as investors. The result: 62 pages of thought-provoking content about how technology is rewiring everyday potential. We are excited to debut this year’s lineup of exclusive commentary, plus interviews and perspectives from these incredible contributors: - The Rise of the Cozy Web with Matt Klein of Reddit, Inc. - Friction as Growth: The Paradox of Hyper-Optimization with Tony Wang of Office of Applied Strategy - Silent Conversations: Inside Agent to Agent Communication - Breaking Western Narratives with Ria Chopra and Varun Kashyap of Kommune - Beyond the Illusion of Control: Navigating the AI Era Responsibly with Juliette Powell, author of "The AI Dilemma" - The Reflecting Twenties with Alfred Malmros and Sam Peskin of Early Studies - Guarding an Intelligent Future: The Business of Securing AI - Breaching the Surface: Startup Categories Building in Stealth - Search for Truth: A New Era of Journalism Plus, Thoughts of Optimism from our strategic network, including Mark Penn (Stagwell), Joshua S. Rachel Goldflam liked thisRachel Goldflam liked thisWhat do you get when you put some of the brightest minds in marketing—from the National Football League (NFL), Los Angeles Rams, THETEAM, and Horizon Media—in a single room with 400 @GALLO employees? As I learned yesterday at GALLO’s inaugural marketing conference, you get a fascinating conversation about the state of sports marketing. From their unique vantage points representing a league, a team, and strategy and media agencies, Ingrid Petri, Kathryn Kai-ling Frederick, Jez Lubenetski, and Wesley Morse confirmed what we’ve been observing at GALLO: excellence in sports marketing is no longer defined by logos and sponsorship inventory. Today, it’s all about creating value for the fans. That means taking the time to understand how fans express their love of the game. The pregame rituals. The watch parties. The debriefs and debates that follow. Sports fans are drawn to the brands that get them—whether that’s partnering with an influencer they trust, or telling a story they can relate to. And as our panelists made clear, when your brands meet sports fans where they are, you don’t just create value for them. You also drive results for the business. In this rapidly evolving sports landscape, that work can be challenging. But as Kathryn Kai-ling Frederick reminded us, it should also be fun! Many of us at GALLO are sports fans ourselves (Go Seahawks!), and we’re proud to serve joy during those fourth-quarter comebacks and locker room celebrations. When we bring that pride and energy to our work, it shows. And after this conference, which for the first time brought together all corners of our marketing organization, I have no doubt: there is tremendous energy across the GALLO marketing team. We’re committed to staying curious, showing up for fans, and having fun along the way—one game day at a time. #SportsMarketing #MarketingLeadership #BrandBuilding #PartnershipMarketing #TheMasterBlend #LifeAtGallo

My colleague Bryan Eshelman recently spoke with NPR on the challenges in the sneaker market these days. As consumers pull back spending, clearly differentiated products and services become a retailer’s lifeline. If your competitive moat isn’t aligned with customer expectations, it may be time to re-think your approach for the future.

🚨 Saks Global announces CEO stepped down and appoints real estate mogul as successor ! Following the news of a potential bankruptcy, the luxury retailer announced the departure of CEO Marc Metrick after almost 30y with the company. ℹ️ - Saks Global = US parent company of Saks 5th Avenue, Neiman Marcus & Bergdorf Goodman - Total debt since acquiring Neiman Marcus in 2024 reached $4.7 billion… - Preparing for a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing after missing a $100 million interest payment 👨✈️ Saks Global appointed executive chairman Richard Baker as new CEO. Baker is the owner of real estate firm NRDC and has a long track record in retail & property. The leadership shake-up might be a sign of how the company plans on restructuring its legacy org into a leaner company, in order to survive. ➡️ From a fashion house to a financial house Saks Global will have to downsize in quantity and sqm. Following the example of Bloomingdale's, we'll see them converting their big-box stores into less & smaller boutiques. Baker is famous for his ability to unlock the value of the land underneath the stores. In a previous life, he already managed multi-billion dollar deals to clear debt. ⚖️ While Metrick focused on customer experience, Bakes is expected to prioritize the balance sheet. He previously steered German chain Galeria Kaufhof through financial turbulence by focusing on store network optimization and selling off properties. 📆 With a new CEO at the helm, the timeline for the Chapter 11 filing has accelerated. On the immediate term, they have to secure new financing. Baker needs to convince lenders that the company's real estate portfolio (estimated around $7b worth) makes them a safe enough bet to bail out. 🏬 Reports indicate Saks Global is looking to sell a minority stake in Bergdorf Goodman to raise quick cash as well. On the short term, it's clear that Saks needs to shrink to survive. From there, the company has to redefine its reason to exist. 🤔 I'd like to see them steal from Bloomies, Mytheresa & KITH the coming 5 years: • Shift focus away from The Aspirational Shopper to the Very Important Customer (online & offline!) • Steal the Small Format from Bloomingdale's: exit massive mall anchors and open true luxury & experiential Saks Boutiques • Move away from the designer maze and create drop zones (curated, rotating spaces that change every month) + exclusive collabs to make Saks a hot brand/destination (again) 💬 Will it happen? I don't know... But what's more interesting for me to know: What would you do? #retail #luxury #innovation #saks #bankruptcy

Saks Global is closing a slew of stores as part of its bankruptcy reorganization and Saks Fifth Avenue is taking the brunt of the closures. Going forward, there will be 12 Saks stores and 32 Neiman Marcus locations.
