The New York startup has raised $2.5 million in seed funding led by Newfund, with Triple Impact Capital, Remarkable Ventures and C2 Ventures participating. Discernis analyzes entire document collections rather than retrieving a small set of likely matches. Its system connects evidence across millions of records and can run on-premises or in a client's secure cloud, with no third-party AI API calls. That architecture targets the hardest constraint in litigation AI: useful reasoning without moving privileged data outside the firm's control. Founder Rob Kwiatkowski brings an unusually relevant technical edge. Before starting Discernis, he was an applied scientist at Amazon Web Services; the company is now applying that experience to complex litigation document review. Perry Solomon liked thisPerry Solomon liked thisThis summer I had the incredible opportunity of working in the United States Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee as a Legislative Intern under Ranking Member Ed Markey. Growing up in Massachusetts, Senator Markey is a leader I’ve looked up to for as long as I can remember. Senator Markey has long championed progressive environmental reform, from the Green New Deal to the IRA’s monumental clean and green energy tax credits. As I study environmental and energy policy at Columbia, it was a privilege to join the team spearheading the legislative agenda of which I plan to dedicate my career. On the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee, I performed legislative research, reported on hearings, wrote memos for senior staffers, and sourced press clips for our comms team. For my final project, I proposed legislation that would codify a comprehensive federal privacy mandate by targeting the most consequential sectors and establishing a floor-only, preemption for all who want it standard. This exercise forced me to critically analyze how to best serve the conflicting needs of constituents, stakeholders, and the caucus in crafting public policy. The experience reaffirmed my commitment to practical progressivism. I want to thank my supervisors Winter Harris , Grace Mitchell, and Samiha F. for supporting me in this incredible opportunity. Perry Solomon liked thisPerry Solomon liked thisAndreessen Horowitz just closed $1.1 billion for the Machine Age Fund, aimed squarely at the physical buildout of artificial intelligence: chips, memory, networking, storage, data centers, robots, and the electricity underneath all of it. Their read is that every layer of that stack is hitting the limits of today's supply chain and of physics itself, which makes this a once in a generation moment to rebuild all of it. It is a great signal for anyone working on machines that move, and it lands at a moment when the teams I talk to are feeling something similar. General intelligence in the physical world has gone from a research fantasy to something you can see the shape of, and the demos coming out of labs right now would have been science fiction three years ago. The gap that remains is reliability, and I think that is genuinely good news, because reliability is an engineering problem rather than a mystery. We know how to close engineering problems. We do it by measuring relentlessly, by reproducing failures instead of guessing at them, and by running every change against thousands of scenario variations before it ever reaches hardware. Software went through exactly this arc. Continuous integration and test infrastructure turned shipping from an event into a habit, and that is what unlocked the last two decades of progress. Robotics is ready for the same shift, and with this much capital and talent pointed at the physical layer, I think we get there faster than most people expect. https://lnkd.in/eTeH-gHj

Perry Solomon liked thisPerry Solomon liked thisBrio was at Actuate 2026 last week and we haven't stopped thinking about the awesome people, teams, and robots we met. The short version is that robots are learning much faster than they used to. Generalist announced a new model, GEN-1.5, and what it does is watch a person do something for about ten seconds, a task it has never seen before, and then just do it. Nobody writes code for it, nobody trains it overnight, you show it once and it goes. A year ago that same task would have taken an engineer weeks. NVIDIA showed something in a similar spirit with their Cosmos models, which invent realistic video of places a robot has never been so it can practice there thousands of times before it ever shows up in the real world. A year ago that took roughly ten minutes to produce five seconds of video. Now it runs live, as fast as you can watch it. Almost none of this is out in the world yet. Robots that drive or walk around are getting common, but robots that pick things up and handle them the way your hands do are still mostly stuck in labs, and only a few of the biggest companies have gotten them out. I think that is the exciting part rather than the discouraging part. The hard problem left is not whether a robot can do the thing, it is making it do the thing reliably, in a real building, on a Tuesday, a thousand times in a row without anyone watching. That is a solvable engineering problem, and there were a thousand people in that room working on it. We are much earlier than the headlines suggest, and it is a great time to be building here.

In this role, I’ll be working to strengthen relationships throughout the behavioral health and addiction treatment community, support access to care, and help drive continued growth across Carrier Clinic’s continuum of services, with a particular focus on Blake Recovery Center and Retreat & Recovery at Ramapo Valley. After many years in behavioral health, addiction treatment, business development, clinical outreach, and family support, I’m especially excited to bring those experiences together within the Hackensack Meridian Health system. I’m incredibly grateful to John O'Neill and the Carrier Clinic leadership team for the confidence they’ve placed in me and for welcoming me to the team. Most importantly, I’m looking forward to reconnecting with longtime colleagues, developing new relationships throughout the community, and continuing the work that has always mattered most to me—helping individuals and families find the right care when they need it. Two weeks ago on Swimming with Allocators, we sat down with David Clark, CIO at VenCap, to talk about what decades of venture data can teach allocators. One takeaway that stood out: discounts don’t matter as much as people think in venture secondaries. Because venture is such a power-law asset class, outcomes are driven by exposure to a few massive winners. Whether a stake is bought at a small discount, or even a premium, often matters far less than the quality of the underlying company and its upside.
