Nadav Avidan reposted thisNadav Avidan reposted thisReddit's share of ChatGPT citations fell off a cliff last week. If you saw the headlines, you know the number. What most people missed is that this isn't the first time it's happened, and that should change how you think about your own AI visibility numbers. In September 2025, Reddit's ChatGPT citation share collapsed by 95 percent in a single month. Then it recovered. Eleven months later, it happened again. Promptwatch clocked the share falling from 3.83 percent to 0.52 percent in a matter of days. Ahrefs, tracking the same platform over roughly the same window, had Reddit at 16.7 percent. Four times apart. Nobody's confirmed why either number moved. Now replace Reddit with your own brand for a second. If the most cited domain on the internet can lose most of its visibility in a single tool's tracking, over a handful of days, for a reason nobody can pin down, what happens to your brand's citation share when you're not watching that closely? You probably don't have three different platforms cross checking your numbers. Most brands have one dashboard and a lot of faith in it. The lesson isn't that Reddit got unlucky. It's that citation share is more volatile and less understood than most of us are treating it. If your whole AI visibility strategy rests on one tool's snapshot of one platform, you won't know the difference between a real decline and a measurement blip until it's already cost you a quarter of decisions made on bad information. Track more than one source. Check more than one platform. And don't panic on day one of a drop you can't explain yet.

Nadav Avidan reposted thisNadav Avidan reposted thisThis is for the hiring managers who are about to start seeing resumes from Amazonians who received that dreaded notification this week and are suddenly navigating a job search. Titles at Amazon rarely reflect the true scope of the role someone held. A “manager” or “senior manager” may have led global programs, managed a dozen or more direct reports and significant budgets, advised senior executives, and had accountability for decisions with millions of dollars of impact. That kind of scope is not the exception. In many other companies, it would be considered director-level or higher. Amazonians are high performers by design. The bar to get in is high, and the expectations once you are inside are even higher. Please do not let a title that might feel junior in your organization cause you to overlook someone who has already operated at scale and could be your company’s next leader. And for Amazonians now finding themselves unexpectedly job searching, it is okay to add context. Clarify your scope on LinkedIn or your resume. Right-size your title where appropriate. If you were the single-threaded leader for a global program, it is fair to say you were the head of or global lead for that work, even if your formal title did not reflect it. There is extraordinary talent coming into the market right now. I hope hiring leaders take the time to look past titles and see the full picture of impact and potential. If I can be helpful in thinking through how to ensure your actual scope and impact are accurately reflected, please do not hesitate to reach out. #Leadership #Hiring #Careers #Amazon #Talent

Nadav Avidan posted thisNine months. That's how long I've been searching. Which, coincidentally, is also how long it takes to grow a human being. Except I have nothing to show for it but a really impressive collection of automated rejection emails and one recruiter who ghosted me mid-conversation. I'm not going to dress this up: it's been brutal. The hardest part isn't the rejections. It's applying to roles I'm legitimately built for—where I could walk in and add value from day one—and hearing absolutely nothing back. Not even a "thanks but no thanks." Just silence. Like shouting into a void that doesn't even have the courtesy to echo back. Some days the discipline holds. I sit down, do the work, send applications, network, show up. Other days? I can't. The fear gets too loud. At 3am, it sounds like: "Did I really spend over a decade building expertise in something I'll never get to do again?" It looks like watching the resume gap grow day by day, knowing that the gap itself makes the next job harder to get. It feels like not being able to provide for my family. Like becoming irrelevant in real-time. This job market will tell you that you're worthless while simultaneously demanding you stay confident and positive. It's gaslighting as a business model. But here's the thing I keep coming back to, the thing that makes me write this: Job security is an illusion. If you're employed and feeling safe right now, genuinely—I'm happy for you. But don't mistake luck for immunity. This market is more brutal than any of us realize during the good times. We're all more vulnerable than we think. And none of us are safe from ending up exactly where I am. That's not meant to scare you. It's meant to remind both of us that we're human, that this system is broken, and that our worth isn't determined by whether some ATS algorithm likes our resume. I'm not giving up. Even when discipline fails. Even when every logical part of my brain is screaming that I should. I'm still here. Still a communications professional who knows how to make complex ideas actually land with people. Still someone with value to add. Still fighting, even on the days it feels pointless. So if you have an opportunity that might be relevant, reach out. If you're stuck in your own search and need someone who gets it, my DMs are open. Or if you just want to talk to someone who won't feed you toxic positivity BS—I'm here. Nine months in. Still standing. Barely, some days. But still here. #OpenToWork #CorporateCommunications #JobSearch #BayAreaJobs #PRJobs

Nadav Avidan posted thisAI’s next chapter isn’t about smarter models. It’s about who controls the stack. Sam Altman and OpenAI are making it clear: 2026 is the year AI stops being “software” and starts behaving like infrastructure — power-hungry data centers, vertical integrations, and partnerships that blur the line between tech company, utility, and nation-state asset. This isn’t an innovation race anymore. It’s a trust, scale, and narrative race. Comms takeaway: When your product becomes infrastructure, your story must shift. Less “look what our tech can do” — more “here’s why the world should be comfortable relying on us.” That means credibility, restraint, and governance aren’t side notes. They’re the brand. #AI #TechSignals #Communications #Trust #Leadership #BrandStrategy

Nadav Avidan posted thisSecurity isn’t a cost center anymore. It’s a product decision. AI didn’t just enter cybersecurity — it rewired it. Fraud detection, identity, trust signals, threat response… all moving from rules and alerts to prediction and prevention. Companies that still treat security as “IT hygiene” will fall behind the ones using it as a growth lever. Trust is now engineered. And AI is the engineer. If your security story doesn’t show up in your product, your brand, and your revenue narrative — you don’t have one. #AI #CyberSecurity #Trust #TechSignals #Leadership #Comms #BrandStrategy

Nadav Avidan posted thisA year ago, a Chinese AI lab you’d never heard of crashed Nvidia’s stock by $600 billion in a single day. DeepSeek’s January 2025 release shocked markets by achieving results similar to advanced systems while using less compute . The narrative that China was 9-12 months behind the US? Dead overnight. Now DeepSeek holds 4% of global chatbot market share while ChatGPT dominates at 68%. But here’s what matters more: other Chinese AI firms previously unsure about open source are following DeepSeek’s playbook, and the competition has pushed American firms to open up too . The AI arms race isn’t just about who builds the best model anymore. It’s about who shares it—and what that does to everyone else’s business model. Here’s my take: we’re watching democratization of AI in the long run, but monopolistic capitalism in the short term. The market needs to allow innovation to flow, hand in hand with accountability. 3 Comms Takeaways: 🌏 Geopolitics = your new beat — Every tech story now has a China angle. If your company isn’t addressing where your tech comes from, your competitors are already whispering about it to customers. 🔓 Open source is a strategic weapon — Chinese AI firms’ embrace of open source has earned them goodwill in the global AI community and a long-term trust advantage . Transparency isn’t just ethics—it’s competitive positioning. 💰 Cost efficiency beats raw power — DeepSeek proved you can compete on brains, not just budget. If your narrative is still “we spent the most,” you’re already losing to someone who’ll say “we spent less and won anyway.” The companies winning in 2026 aren’t just the ones with the biggest war chests. They’re the ones willing to share their secrets—while being held accountable for how they use them.

Nadav Avidan posted thisThe AI race isn’t being won by algorithms anymore. It’s being won by electricity bills. This week alone: $480M for an AI research lab, $300M for deployment infrastructure, $200M for networking systems . Silicon Valley is quietly shifting from “what can AI do?” to “how do we keep the lights on?” Microsoft’s CEO just said energy costs will decide who wins the AI race . Data center electricity consumption is projected to more than double to 945 TWh by 2030 . Translation: AI’s biggest bottleneck isn’t innovation. It’s infrastructure. 3 Comms Takeaways: ⚡ Kill the hype, lead with constraints — Your audience is over AI fantasies. They want to know about costs, limits, and real ROI. 🌍 Energy = your new messaging pillar — If you’re not talking about efficiency and sustainability, you’re already behind. This is competitive positioning now. 📊 Boring is the new sexy — Data centers, chips, networking. The backend is where the story lives. Technical credibility > visionary fluff. The best tech stories in 2026 won’t be about what’s possible. They’ll be about what’s scalable. What’s your take—are we heading for an infrastructure crisis or an infrastructure renaissance?

Tech PR is at a breaking point. This may seem like an outlandish statement, or just a way for me to reaffirm the value of trust and earned coverage, as many in the industry are doing right now. But that narrative itself is a symptom of the deeper issue, that of an old way of thinking that tries to think ahead when bogged down in outdated marketing terms and jargon. For me, the most useful way to understand the state of #TechPR is through the Buying Hierarchy model, created by Windermere Associates of San Francisco. Originally designed for product evolution, it maps surprisingly well onto the PR industry’s trajectory. ⚙️ Functionality: Tech companies first hired PR agencies for one thing: coverage. Successive tech booms and rising media appetite made agencies the gateway to national and trade visibility. 🤝 Reliability: As agencies matured, tech companies began selecting partners they could count on, consistent delivery, repeatable process, predictable output. 📱 Convenience: Competition increased, and differentiation shifted to experience: better tools, clearer workflows, smoother communication, consultants who understood both the tech and the market. 💰 Price: Once agencies could reliably deliver solid tech PR with a good client experience, there was only one lever left: price. Fees dropped. Deliverables rose. And the value of PR work started to erode. This is where the decline begins. Competitive pricing and over-delivery devalue the service. Margins tighten to almost nothing. Lower fees → more deliverables → devalued expertise → shrinking margins → burnt‑out teams → less innovation. This is the stage we’re in. Tech PR isn’t dying. But Tech PR in its current form is. What’s needed is a complete mindset shift that is aligned with what the companies of tomorrow will require. There’s no simple answer. Risks will need to be taken. Not all decisions will pay off and upward investment is a must. But recognising the problem is the first step towards its evolution. #PR #TechPR #Comms

The SEC just published a crisis playbook. It just filed it under “Enforcement Manual.” Most executives treat regulators like weather. Something that “happens” to them. This update is a reminder that the SEC thinks in timelines, not in vibes. Three changes matter if you run a company with real risk. First: the Wells process got compressed. You do not get months to debate commas. Wells submissions are due in four weeks. The one meeting you might get after that is supposed to happen within another four weeks, with senior Enforcement leadership in the room. Second: the Staff now has an affirmative obligation to surface salient, probative evidence you may not know about. They are also expected to make reasonable efforts to let you review relevant, non-privileged parts of the file. Visibility is up. So is the speed. Third: the memo says self-reporting credit will rarely be available once the issue is already in the media or another regulator is involved. Translation: if your first notification is a headline, your “cooperation story” starts on defense. People hear “regulatory update” and think lawyers. I hear operating tempo. Data hygiene. And one brutal truth: personal devices and messaging apps are now inside the blast radius. If you want a clean outcome, you need a first-24-hours plan that can run before you have perfect facts. Not because you are guilty. Because the clock does not care. Sources: https://lnkd.in/dSrxidZN

Worth paying attention to this warning shared by Dominic Ponsford, editor of Press Gazette as a clear signal to the PR industry about where things are heading and what behaviour will increasingly attract scepticism rather than coverage. As we all know, AI is becoming embedded in PR workflows. Used properly, it’s powerful. Used badly, it becomes a credibility liability. AI should not be used to invent experts or commentary, generate insight that no real person stands behind or create content purely to gain media coverage. Everyone should be asking tougher questions: Who is accountable for this insight? Can the sources be verified? Would this stand up if a journalist dug deeper? Journalists are far better at spotting AI-generated content than many assume. Once a brand or agency is flagged as unreliable, every future pitch is viewed through that lens. I said last year in my 2026 predictions that trust is the number-one currency. That hasn’t changed and if anything, this just goes to show it’s becoming more valuable by the day.

If you want to win at GEO/AEO, hire a journalist. Kevin Indig recently analyzed 1.2 million ChatGPT responses and 18,000+ verified citations to understand how AI “pays attention” (link in the comments). The finding is striking: 44% of citations come from the first 30% of a page. AI behaves like a busy editor, looking for: • Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF) • Direct definitions (“X is…” / “X refers to…”) • Balanced, analytical tone • Business-grade clarity In other words: It prefers journalism. Think about how a news article opens. The lede answers who, what, when, where immediately. No suspense. No 800-word warm-up. No “In today’s fast-paced world…” Indig’s data shows definitive language is nearly 2x more likely to be cited. Question-based headings that mirror user intent (“What is programmatic SEO?”) dramatically increase extraction. High entity density (20%+) beats vague advice every time. Journalistic writing is built for clarity, scannability, and information density, exactly how LLMs retrieve and synthesize answers. The old “ultimate guide” model optimized for time-on-page. The new model optimizes for extractability. High-visibility content now functions more like a structured briefing than a narrative arc. And here’s the twist: This serves humans, too. AI just formalized what great communicators already knew: Clarity, precision, and get-to-the-point-immediately content wins. The future of visibility belongs to writers who think like journalists.

Earned media outcomes aren’t confined to the news you pitch. The concept of “earned” is much broader than that. - Keynote addresses at industry conferences. - Peer-reviewed publications. - Significant, industry-recognized awards (not paid for). - Customer testimonials. - Advocacy and industry partnerships. These all earn media coverage, and they earn attention too. That builds credibility in the eyes of the people who matter most: customers. When you’re thinking about “earned,” don’t just confine your strategy to “media.” This is now more important than ever, because in the AI era, when earned search is a primary credibility driver and influencer of customer behavior change, your brand's greatest currency is the credibility it has to motivate buying decisions. ++++++++++ Hi, I’m Joshua.
