Kris Brown shared thisI was excited to represent Brady: United Against Gun Violence at last week's SXSW, joining Amory Wooden of ANDMORE® on stage thanks to Seth Gaffney at PREACHER, Ashley Shaffer at Redscout, and Chloe Sacks from PEAK6. What stood out most was the recognition that brands and businesses have a real role to play here. Culture doesn’t shift through policy alone — it shifts when what we see, hear, and experience every day starts to change. That’s where the private sector has enormous influence. It’s vital that we continue creating spaces like this, where leaders across industries can engage in honest, solutions-oriented conversations about gun violence and their role in driving change. Grateful to have been part of it — and looking forward to building on the momentum.

You may have seen that the documentary short "All the Empty Rooms" won an Oscar for its focus on children killed in school shootings. It underpinned one unexpected place where gun violence prevention is taking shape - in Hollywood. That came through in my conversation with Kris Brown, president of Brady: United Against Gun Violence, one of America’s leading gun violence prevention organizations. Through #ShowGunSafety campaign, Brady is working with writers and studios to make safe gun storage visible on screen. It’s simple, and that’s why it works. Culture doesn’t usually change because people are told what to think. It changes when new behavior starts to feel normal. And with 4.6 million children living in homes with loaded, unlocked guns, normal matters. This is practical culture change, not performative messaging. Strong gun laws and investments in prevention have made a material difference and saved countless lives. And cities that have invested strongly in prevention programs are seeing some of the sharpest declines. Strong gun laws work. We need to continue these policies, not dismantle them. But the current administration is moving in the exact opposite direction by expanding access to deadly weapons. They say they are the only leaders who are “tough on crime,” and that more guns make us safer. But the data speaks for itself. We won't be gaslit. As I shared with NPR, there are few details about who DOJ is deciding to put on this list, and the lack of transparency could lead to violent offenders having access to deadly weapons. It's critical for public safety that we have a clear process and vetting procedure before restoring gun rights. But the Trump administration once again thinks it’s above the law. Kris Brown shared thisLast Saturday marked eight years since the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that claimed the lives of 17 people and injured 17 others. Aalayah Eastmond, a survivor of the shooting and a Team ENOUGH leader at Brady, published a moving op-ed in USA Today that lays bare the further erosion of public safety currently before Congress. The dangerous bill that Aalayah wrote about, the so-called “Innovate to De-Escalate Act,” passed the House of Representatives and is now being primed for consideration in the United States Senate. Thanks to a significant multi-year investment from a funder, End Family Fire is hard at work, building a bottom-up, community led, secure storage program throughout the state. We kicked things off last Tuesday with bringing all 50+ community partners together alongside our Advisory Board to review research and focus group plans, outline gaps, and identify populations who are/were not having their needs met via existing efforts. Huge thanks to our research team of Ubuntu Research & Evaluation, LLC and to our facilitator extraordinaire Gregg Potter for making our meetings not only engaging, but also meaningful and fun, too. Thank you Ad Council for your valuable insight on campaign possibilities over the next few years and thank you to Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez for stopping by to meet attendees, too. Learned a tremendous amount from everyone around the table and walked away with great enthusiam and excitement for the path forward with this campaign. See you all again in person later this year and many more times before that online. #EFFWisconsin
