Sometimes, timing plays a bigger role than preparation. Last week, I had my final round scheduled with eBay. Just one day before the interview, I received an email stating that the position had been filled and the interview was cancelled. The very next day, news broke about a 6% layoff. This isn’t the first time this has happened. Two years ago, after clearing the final round with another global company, I was informed that hiring had been frozen — and within days, mass layoffs were announced. It reminds me that sometimes, outcomes are not a reflection of capability, preparation, or performance — but market conditions and internal decisions beyond our control.
