He hired Hegseth's personal lawyer to help resolve an inspector general probe into salty comments he made about the US Navy sexual-assault prevention program. It worked. This is the flip side of those being weeded out of the military's highest ranks for past comments on diversity or their role in Afghanistan. This is a story of promotion in Hegseth's Pentagon. Kate Kelly shared thisFor ten days now, aviation geeks and safety advocates have been preoccupied with a scary near midair collision near #TeterboroAirport. Took me a bunch of calls and a lot of LinkedIn browsing, TBH, but I figured out who was on board and why the Federal Aviation Administration has elevated it as a major priority -- just as the #House gathers to vote on the controversial ROTOR Act on aviation safety. STOCKMEIER Urethanes Americas chief pilot Derek V. Long, CAM was flying his CEO, Chris Martinkat, and five other souls, along with a copilot. A #TCAS alert and some quick maneuvering saved their lives. Long, a firefighter, EMT, law-enforcement and homeland security official and experienced pilot, knew how, and whom, to complain to to try and use his experience for enhanced future safety. The move raised hackles at the United States Department of War and the The White House. Last night, colleagues and I heard the Federal Aviation Administration had briefly closed the #elpaso airspace because the U.S. Customs and Border Protection fired an anti-drone laser -- not at a Mexican drug cartel asset, but at a stray party balloon. They did this with the permission of the United States Department of War, which had lent the laser technology to CBP for testing. We hustled to flesh out the details, which came at the end of a baffling and frustrating day for passengers, Texas politicians and even administration officials. All were trying to piece together the issues that led to the flight restrictions, which were lifted after a White House meeting. Kate Kelly shared thisLots of news today at the National Transportation Safety Board hearings, along with the huge trove of documents released. Altimeters aboard the US Army Black Hawk may have been faulty, giving an impression of a lower-than-actual altitude; there have been, and continue to be, concerns about the helicopter model the Army pilots flew; and the Army pilots almost certainly didn't see the American Airlines plane they were trying to avoid. There have also been testy exchanges between the NTSB officials and the Federal Aviation Administration over cooperation with the current investigation. We now discuss emotional bandwidth like data plans. Even affection sometimes feels evaluated through invisible cost-benefit analysis: Who texts first? Who makes more effort? Who is emotionally available? Who drains energy? Friendship, however, has always depended on a certain irrational generosity. A willingness to waste time together magnificently.
