Through her own journey of therapy and healing, Cecilia discovered not only her inner strength but also a deep desire to help others who’ve faced similar struggles. Jeff Geoffray reacted on thisJeff Geoffray reacted on thisEver thought about how Jeff Bezos Amazon can afford to build a rocket program? How about this excerpt from an email Amazon sent to all independent distributors who had titles on Amazon's AVOD service: "Beginning 4-May-2025, the license fee for titles published through Prime Video Direct in the United States, and made available for Ad-Supported Access on demand, will be a flat rate of $0.01 per hour." It took a while to sink in - I would get paid $0.02 for someone who watched a 2 hr movie screened with Ads on Amazon and overnight my quarterly revenues went from $25,000 to $2,000 - an annual loss of $90,000 with the click of a mouse. Why? Because Amazon has 100% discretion over what they pay and everyone had to sign a contract giving them the right to change the price without notice. Over the last 2 years we went from $0.10-0.12 per hour to $0.01 per hour - and in some cases I have been paid only $0.005 per hour! - but none of the independent content suppliers have any power to compete with Amazon. It's not that $0.12 per hour was great either - but those were the good old days of 2024! I suppose they had to pay for the MGM library somehow (although that makes me wonder whether they are paying the MGM library films the same rate???) And it wasn't just AVOD - even films I had on Prime's main service have been paid the same rate of $0.01 per hour. The only positive at the moment is the plethora of AVOD channels in the marketplace because they provide competition, and it has been exciting to find new channels and find the audience for our films, but for how long will these new channels be able to resist the temptation of cutting the rate per hour they pay? Will they be able to ignore the expectations of Wall Street? And at what cost to the independent cinema-going landscape in the US? I, like many others, have taken down all of my product from Amazon, but that now means that the US consumer is getting less access to films that it had before because Amazon is trying to force us all out of business so that we only watch the films from their library on their platform. I imagine Paramount+ and HBO will follow. Europe got duped as well. The EU has historically fought for a fair marketplace for European films but when platforms like Netflix and Disney started to run into anti-competitive issues in Europe they acquired 100's of European films to meet the quotas, but paid only $1,500 to $2,000 a year for Pan-European non-exclusive rights to those films. So it LOOKS like they support European cinema, but they made offers that were low to producers that desperately needed the few crumbs being offered to them. Maybe I'm wrong? I hope so, please tell me what I am missing because at the moment I only see that magic number of $0.01 per hour in my future.

Jeff Geoffray liked thisJeff Geoffray liked thisA couple years ago, I found myself out of work after a company shift eliminated its TV department. Not long after, the strikes hit. Options were limited, so I focused on staying active. I started reading unrepresented screenplays online, mostly just to keep my instincts sharp. One writer’s voice stood out. I tracked him down, cold called him, and we started talking. That eventually evolved into a working relationship, and ultimately into this film. We went through draft after draft trying to get it right. You only get one shot. As the project evolved, I brought in one of my oldest friends in the business, Mason Novick, whose instincts and experience in independent film helped elevate the material and figure out how to actually get the thing made. Now, after a long road, cameras are rolling. And at a difficult moment for the entertainment industry, it genuinely means a lot to know this project will help employ so many talented people over the coming weeks. A few takeaways for me: Stay active. Trust your instincts. Reach out to people. Don’t wait to be picked. If you believe in something, keep pushing the rock uphill.
