Angela Bernhard Thomas shared thisThis weekend in Waco, Texas welcomes the biggest scholastic esports event of the year. May Madness is back for its sixth year, celebrating the top collegiate and high school talent across five game titles: Super Smash Bros., Overwatch, VALORANT, Rocket League, and NBA 2K. 96 collegiate teams. 1,000 collegiate competitors. 30 conferences represented. Thousands of high school and middle school players competing for championship crowns. The only scholastic multi-title, multi-conference event of its kind. But tonight will be one of the most iconic events in esports. Our opening ceremony will take place at McLane Stadium on the campus of Baylor University—a stunning venue that towers over the Waco landscape. Performances include the National Anthem, the Air Force Color Guard, welcome remarks from the Baylor President, hundreds of coaches in attendance, a live DJ, food trucks, a video showcase of every player on the massive end zone board, and a college vs. high school Rocket League match on the big screen. This is the stage these players deserve. We are honored to be the stewards of such an important moment in esports history, where athletics and gaming converge to celebrate the next generation of leaders. Angela Bernhard Thomas shared thisProud to see the continued momentum at Syracuse and grateful to play a part alongside this leadership team. What stands out most isn’t just the facility — it’s the intentional integration of academics, production, competition, and real-world experience. When universities invest in infrastructure like this, they’re not just building stages… they’re building pathways. Students are gaining hands-on experience in broadcast, event operations, talent development, and live production — skills that translate directly into the evolving sports and entertainment landscape. As we head into our sixth year of May Madness, moments like this reinforce why the work matters. The event has always aimed to serve as more than a championship — but as a platform and proving ground for students, institutions, and partners committed to advancing the collegiate esports ecosystem. Thank you to Joey Gawrysiak and the Syracuse team for your trust and collaboration. Honored to continue building together — and excited for what’s ahead. Collegiate Sports Management GroupAngela Bernhard Thomas shared thisThe first 2 months of 2026 since its been a whirlwind! None of what I say here does justice to everything we have going on and all the people that make this happen here at Syracuse University in the David B. Falk College of Sport at Syracuse University and S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, and Student Experience! We opened a new academic and competitive facility complete with a massive production room, analyst studio, 160 seat auditorium (used for large lecture classes during the day), main stage, and more! Huge shoutout to Living Legend Joshua Kell and his crew for their work with all the folks here at SU to make this happen. Already have some contract work our students have been able to work on and SO much more coming! Check out https://lnkd.in/eRkC8cEB for a few VODs of some unique shows Sean Kelly has been working on. Thank you to Angela Bernhard Thomas and ToniAnn Convertino for letting us be the first big show with us so we could stretch our legs with 19 students and 2 staff making the day happen for the CECC East Quals. Our Rocket League and Smash teams got to travel to Hawaii to compete with some of the top schools in collegiate esports and have some great experiences with some awesome students and staff from these others schools. Hope Adam Stanley and Christopher Bilski enjoy those surfboard trophies for the year...we coming after them! I was lucky enough to have the chance to present to the Chancellor's Council here at SU during that event and show our administration what esports and gaming is all about and where the true benefits are to learners and the wider community in and through gaming. We even saw some of them step up to play some Rocket League and Valorant. very impressed with what I saw and currently checking on the eligibility of some of our admins! We are LUCKY to have the support we do from everyone here at Cuse! Started working with Josh Robinson, MBA and his company DataCoach to enhance our Rocket League teams with data analytics, our production, and working with our students on experiences. Last week we casually just had the CEO of one of the top esports orgs in the world come visit and talk to students. Joe Marsh from T1 Entertainment & Sports really impacted students with his messages and stories about the business side of esports and gaming and what they can do now to prepare for potential careers across the entertainment ecosystems around the world. Now just wait and see what we are working on with some more incredible companies and events in the next few months. Boost on the Beach, FaZe, Team Liquid, BLAST events, The Atlantis, ESSEF (NY State High Schools), ACC, PlayVs, Vitality, GenG, Micron, DreamHack, Power Esports Conf, HyperX Arena, St. Lucia, NAECAD, InfoComm, Serious Play Conf, and so much more. Stay tuned for all this and more, not to mention graduation!! I'll make sure to post again in another year or so!!!!

Angela Bernhard Thomas shared thisProud to be part of a leadership team that shows what’s possible when collaboration leads the way. With Michael Schreck at the helm, CSMG has worked to build meaningful bridges between traditional sports, esports, and entertainment — not as separate verticals, but as one connected ecosystem. Success has been driven through alignment, trust, and shared vision, which is what makes the work both impactful and sustainable. Grateful as well to the partners and collaborators who support our vision and work alongside us to help bring it to life. As we head into the sixth year of CECC May Madness, I remain grateful to contribute to a culture that leans into complexity, delivers for partners, and never stops evolving. Angela Bernhard Thomas shared this🚨 BIG ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨 Collegiate Sports Management Group is proud to welcome Cisco as a Corporate Champion Sponsor for the 2026 Collegiate Esports Commissioner’s Cup (CECC May Madness) — bringing cutting-edge technology, talent development, and infrastructure innovation to the forefront of collegiate esports. Together, we’re launching the Cisco Pit Crew — the first-ever certification program for esports infrastructure. Designed for technically inclined students, the program combines Cisco Networking Academy coursework, an esports specific module with live simulations and real-world work experience in broadcast, security, and event tech production and solutions. Students will walk away with a resume ready Cisco Pit Crew Certification, hands-on experience at CECC, and access to the same kind of high-performance learning environment that powers global brands like McLaren and events like F1 racing. But this is bigger than a program — it’s a defining moment in the evolution of collegiate esports. With over 30 Conferences and 800 universities participating in CECC May Madness, the platform has become more than just a championship — it's a national pipeline for student engagement, technical talent, and innovation. As campuses invest in esports arenas, degree programs, and digital infrastructure, CECC stands at the intersection of education, entertainment, and workforce development. For forward-thinking partners like Cisco, this is about more than brand visibility. It’s about empowering the next generation of tech leaders, shaping the systems, experiences and credentials that support them, and creating real, scalable pathways from the classroom to the control room. 🛠️ Cisco Pit Crew – Powering the Field of Play at CECC https://lnkd.in/gwSfCuUX #Esports #Cisco #CECC #CECC2026 #CollegiateEsports #NetworkingAcademy #CiscoPitCrew #GamingInfrastructure #TechTalent #MayMadness #ScholasticGaming #CSMG #EsportsU Collegiate Sports Management Group Neal Tilley Cisco Ray Katz Jim Connelly ToniAnn Convertino Griffen C. Angela Bernhard Thomas liked thisAngela Bernhard Thomas liked thisCSMG is proud to have represented Desert Cactus in its jersey patch partnership with DePaul University men's basketball — the first in the BIG EAST Conference. Today, Extra Points took a look at why the deal could pay off for DePaul in more ways than one. The most important takeaway, in our view: the "get value twice" model. DePaul receives its contracted partnership fee up front, and then again as Desert Cactus uses DePaul as a live marketplace to test products, pricing, and distribution — with successful concepts generating additional licensing revenue for the university down the line. At CSMG, we don't measure the value of a jersey patch solely by the check attached to it. The most sophisticated partnerships use the visibility and scarcity of the jersey asset as the foundation for a broader commercial relationship that can create multiple revenue streams and measurable outcomes for both parties. It's the distinction we draw between a patch buyer and a strategic partner: one purchases impressions and association, the other brings distribution, technology, product development, data, and student opportunities into the partnership — delivering meaningful, measurable business impact for both sides. Congratulations to Desert Cactus and DePaul Athletics on their genuinely game-changing partnership, and for being recognized as such by Extra Points.

Today, the page has 9.6K+ followers and has generated strong organic reach, with a growing audience interested in BGMI, esports, players, teams, tournaments and the business behind the industry. The next step is bigger. I’m looking for someone who genuinely believes in the long-term potential of Indian esports and is interested in building a media business in this space. I’m not looking for someone to simply fund a page. I’m looking for a strategic partner who can bring: • Financial support • Business experience • Industry connections • Team-building capabilities • A long-term vision In return, I bring: • An existing esports media platform • An established audience • Strong organic reach • Content and media capabilities • Knowledge of the Indian esports ecosystem • The willingness to build this seriously for the long term The vision is to take Esports Brief India beyond social media and build it into a proper esports media house covering news, original content, interviews, tournaments, industry stories, brand partnerships and eventually original media IP. If you’re an investor, entrepreneur, esports professional or someone looking to build something in Indian esports, I’d be happy to have a conversation. PlayVS and Emerge Apparel are teaming up again, with Emerge returning as the official jersey provider for our scholastic ecosystem and joining us at the collegiate level for the first time. Emerge’s design and merchandise expertise will provide programs with a streamlined path from concept to finished gear, whether they are building a team identity for the first time or refreshing an established look. PlayVS and Emerge first partnered in 2023 to make custom esports apparel and team storefronts more accessible to high school programs. During the initial partnership, more than 100 high schools launched Emerge stores and purchased custom apparel through the platform. Now, we are reconnecting to build on that success and help more competitors, coaches, and schools showcase their team identity and pride through custom apparel. Together, we are helping middle school, high school and college esports programs show up with gear that reflects their identity, their community and their competitive spirit. Many of these children go to prison at a young age and are released to the world at age 18, with no life skills or support system, knowing nothing of the world but what they experienced in a jail cell.
A documentary short film, Waiting for Mamu, will share the story of what it means for a child to grow up in prison and yet find hope in unlikely places. During a prison tour as part of her university studies, Pushpa Basnet encountered a young girl who tugged at her shawl and looked up at her and smiled. Pushpa promised the young girl’s mother she would be back to get her. Seven years later, Pushpa, known as Mamu by the children, runs an organization that gives kids the chance to be kids during the day and have an education. Some return to the prison to be with their mothers at night, while some stay in her orphanage.
This film captures the hope of a child to be free from prison, even if just for the day, to find a childhood, and to find Mamu.

Innovation is entering a new phase — one where progress belongs to what is designed to operate within the rules. This week offered several clear signals across regulated markets. In Nebraska, digital sports betting remains permitted only when tethered to licensed racetracks or casinos, reinforcing how closely digital expansion is tied to physical and regulatory infrastructure. At the same time, recent developments around prediction markets highlighted how quickly innovation attracts regulatory attention when product design begins to overlap with established betting or gaming frameworks. Across both cases, the pattern is consistent: as regulatory environments mature, innovation is no longer about pushing boundaries at any cost. It is increasingly about architecture, structure, and alignment. In markets where growth is constrained by licensing, tethering, or compliance requirements, sustainable innovation favors models that increase engagement and participation without increasing regulatory exposure. In regulated markets, durability — not speed — is what will ultimately define meaningful innovation.

Virtual reality and esports betting are no longer fringe concepts—they’re scaling fast, and their convergence could reshape the architecture of gambling itself. VR extends time in play. Esports multiplies betting moments. Put the two together, and you get a powerful growth engine—but also a regulatory puzzle regulators are only beginning to grapple with. The implications stretch far beyond entertainment: 🔹 Operators see longer engagement and new revenue streams. 🔹 Regulators worry about fairness, latency exploitation, and responsible play. 🔹 Players face immersive environments that blur lines between gaming and wagering. With billions at stake, the key question is not if VR–esports betting convergence will happen, but how it will be shaped—by innovation, by regulation, or by public perception. 💡 What do you think: will VR + esports usher in a safer, more engaging betting era - or open the door to new forms of risk the industry isn’t prepared for? Full article in the comments.

House of Streamers • 3K followers
Back in the day, sports weren’t global. It wasn’t the players who changed that. It was the production — cameras, commentary, fan engagement. We’re at the same moment in casino streaming. A single streamer can attract viewers. But an operator who acts as their production partner can turn streaming into a scalable acquisition engine: 1. Dedicated show formats 2. Consistent collaboration 3. Data-driven player conversion 4. Loyalty built over years, not campaigns Great streamers stay loyal to operators who help them grow. Build the show → and they’ll build your community. Simple 💁🏻♂️

ESPORTS: WHEN THE SERVER DOESN’T SERVE YOU… In online gaming and Esports tournaments, terms like server location, latency, ping, and milliseconds (ms) aren’t just technical jargon, they often determine who wins and who loses. Simply put, the closer a player is to a game server, the faster their inputs are processed. When you press a button on your controller, that command travels to the game server, gets processed, and returns as an on-screen action. One can be the best player, but a server can determine one's fate. Low latency = faster response time and smoother gameplay High latency = delayed reactions and competitive disadvantage This is one of the biggest structural challenges facing Esports and online gaming across Africa. THE SERVER GAP IN AFRICA Most major game servers are still hosted in Europe or the Middle East. As a result, many African players experience average ping rates of 150–200 ms or higher, compared to 20–50 ms in regions with local servers. That gap directly impacts performance in competitive play. Deploying servers isn’t the responsibility of one group alone. It requires multi-sector collaboration across: 1. Game publishers 2. Data centers & cloud providers 3. Telecoms & ISPs 4. Governments & regulators 5. The gaming community itself While players sit at the end of the chain as consumers, community demand is one of the strongest drivers for server investment. However, because servers require significant infrastructure and financial commitment, publishers typically look for stable markets, strong connectivity, and clear user growth before deployment. SIGNS OF PROGRESS, BUT STILL LIMITED There has been a deployment of servers by some Publishers, an example is Electronic Arts (EA) exploring or testing server presence in Nigeria, which has significantly improved connectivity across West Africa with respect to the EAFC game title. North Africa, by proximity to Europe, mostly plays on European or Middle East servers. South Africa has servers that are supported by local providers, which offer dedicated hosting and optimised routing for low-latency gameplay within the country. Yet the reality remains: most major game titles still lack dedicated African servers, largely due to perceived market size, infrastructure challenges, and investment risk. THE “SERVER IN AFRICA” CAMPAIGN For years, we’ve been advocating for fair digital infrastructure in gaming. Our petition has gathered over 2,000+ signatures calling on major publishers to recognize Africa’s growing gaming economy and invest in local servers. ++++-------------------- Have you signed yet? https://c.org/XvFF9fJctx ++++-------------------- Server or no server, Africa still plays. We adapt. We compete. We build communities. And when online systems fail us, we keep gaming offline, locally, and creatively. WHEN THE SERVER DOESN'T SERVE US, WE SERVE OURSELVES OFFLINE! As always. More Vim, Kwesi Hayford

The hidden cost of large-scale esports tournaments isnt to be taken lightly. From the outside, tournaments look like gameplay and broadcasts. From the inside, they are: 🔸️ Admin bandwidth 🔸️ Dispute resolution 🔸️ Scheduling complexity 🔸️ Platform risk management 🔸️ Human coordination at scale These costs rarely appear in budgets. But they appear in execution stress. What breaks tournaments isn’t lack of funding,it’s underestimating operational load. At scale, proper planning is not optional. It’s survival.
