Dennis Armstrong shared thisExcellent advice Marshall! I have always shared with leaders that they are always on the stage from the time you get out of your car or walk into the building until you leave the same way at the end of the day! And if you don’t think your employees know what kind of mood you are in, you are simply ignoring reality! Everyone is watching everything everywhere all the time! The recent Jumbotron rom-bomb is a recent example!Dennis Armstrong shared thisI always say these words before any speech, video or presentation. IT'S SHOWTIME! This is also advice that I give to my executive coaching clients. “Do I really have to watch whatI I say and how I act in every meeting… for the rest of my career?” This is one of the most common questions I’ve been asked by leaders over the years. My answer is always the same: Yes. If you want to be a great leader that day. Leadership IS a performance. You don’t get to step out of character when the spotlight feels inconvenient. The people around you are always watching - and learning from you. That may sound exhausting, but it’s also an incredible privilege. The best leaders never forget: in every meeting, every conversation, every moment - it’s showtime! Life is good. Marshall

Dennis Armstrong shared thisAs a sailor, I think Marshall captured he essence of change in this post perfectly! So how do you deal with change: - Do you stay on course even when the winds change? - Do you change you course when hit with changing winds? - Do you drop you sails and way until the winds change? Or - Do you adjust you sails to leverage the changing winds? The choices you make will impact the course of your life!Dennis Armstrong shared thisIn our journey through life, we may need to “adjust the sails” many times. It is great to be an optimist. Hope for the best! It is also wise to be a realist. The world is what it is. We live in a period of incredibly rapid change. The age of stability is long gone. Rather than resisting, make peace with continuous learning. Even better, learn to enjoy it. Make 'sail adjusting' an expectation. Even when you step into a new role, realize that this position may not last forever. Organizations, strategies, and markets shift quickly. Always be “packed and ready” to move on when you need to. The best leaders - and the happiest people - are those who can adjust their sails and keep moving forward, no matter which way the wind blows. Life is good. Marshall Thank you for reading my reflections. I always love your comments.

Dennis Armstrong shared thisWe kicked off our first Emerging Leader Development Program on 6/11/2025. The program cosists of three full days of four highly interactive worshops, one day per month in June, July and August, on well curated topics designed and delivered by a UW CPED instructor and a Blain’s senior leader. Jeff and the rest of the UW CPED instructors and Blain’s senior leaders, including Kate Schlesinger and I did a great job of providing critical information and content that will support the development of the 15 outstanding emerging leaders selected for this year’s inaugural program! The program concludes in September when each of the three 5 leader teams will present their projects, using the knowledge and skills they’ve learned, to the Blain’s Leadership Team (LT) wil then decide which projects may get funded in next years budget. Many thanks to Jeff and the other UW CPED instructors and Blain’s leaders who delivered the topics in June! Our next session on July 9th will be at the Fluno Center in Madison! I can’t wait to see the fantastic day we have planned for these emerging leaders in action!Dennis Armstrong shared thisBlain's Farm & Fleet (Blain Supply, Inc.) isn’t just a great place to shop. It’s a 𝐺𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑡 𝑃𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑒 𝑇𝑜 𝑊𝑜𝑟𝑘, recognized year after year for its culture and values. Now, they’re raising the bar again. In partnership with the University of Wisconsin’s Center for Professional & Executive Development, Blain’s has launched its first-ever Emerging Leader Development Program, designed to prepare the next generation of leaders to navigate and lead change in a fast-moving world. A special shoutout to Dennis Armstrong, former CHRO and now Talent Strategist at Blain’s, who led the charge in designing and championing this initiative. It was a privilege to join this inaugural cohort and work with emerging leaders across the organization, diving into the fundamentals of change and what it takes to lead it effectively. Dennis Armstrong liked thisIn our fast-paced professional lives, it's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day. But sometimes, the most impactful work happens outside the office. Taking time to step away and dedicate ourselves to giving back is rewarding, especially when the mission so closely aligns to the work we do every day. We can make a difference in the lives of others and contribute positively to the world around us. Grateful to be able to volunteer with Besa, support LifeCare Alliance and proudly represent Cardinal Health.Dennis Armstrong liked this👏 Proud team moment! This month, my leadership team stepped away from our screens and spent the morning at LifeCare Alliance - an in-home health agency in Central Ohio that provides essentials like Meals on Wheels to older or homebound adults and the medically challenged in the region. In just two hours, we prepared 2,090 meals that were delivered directly to those in need. It was a powerful reminder of why our mission at Cardinal Health at-Home Solutions matters: Helping people feel supported, independent and able to thrive at home. Seeing that mission in action - and contributing to it hands-on - was invaluable. Grateful to LifeCare Alliance and Besa for allowing us the opportunity to work alongside your incredible teams.

Do you ever feel that HR is pulling in a different direction to your business leaders? Research shows this misalignment is real. 👉 CEOs consistently rank succession and leadership continuity among their top talent concerns. Boards want confidence that there’s a strong bench for critical roles. 👉 At the same time, HR put employee development and upskilling at the top of their list. They know you can’t fill future leadership roles without building capability today. Both are right from their perspective. But without a clear roadmap, priorities clash. This tension is where so many good intentions get stuck. ☑️ Leaders want successors now, but HR can’t point to ready-now talent if they don’t know which roles are truly critical. ☑️ HR wants to invest in development, but without clarity on who to develop for what, the budget gets spread thin. The result? Competing priorities, wasted spend and missed opportunities. The Talent Strategy Roadmap brings everyone onto the same page. It helps you answer the questions that define talent initiatives: ✔️ Which positions are truly critical for your future growth? ✔️ What does “great” look like in these roles? ✔️ Who shows real potential to step in and what do they need to get there? When you start here, priorities align. A clear roadmap keeps everyone moving in the same direction, 📈 towards growth. ⬇️ Save this post to answer these 10 questions in your talent strategy discussions for 2026. A personalized growth roadmap isn't just a plan—it's the strategic foundation of exceptional leadership. Every executive's path is unique. A one-size-fits-all approach leaves potential untapped and challenges unmet. By tailoring leadership development to your specific strengths, growth areas, and organizational context, you create a clear path to not only meet but exceed your goals. Consider this: Executives who follow a customized roadmap report significantly higher confidence in decision-making and greater impact within their organizations. One recent client accelerated their leadership effectiveness, aligning personal growth with business strategy, resulting in measurable team performance improvements within six months. This means that investing time and resources into a personalized leadership growth plan is not optional—it's essential. It changes uncertain ambition into actionable progress, helping you navigate complexity with clarity and resilience. Are you ready to move beyond generic programs and commit to a growth path designed just for you? Your leadership evolution starts with a roadmap crafted to your unique vision and challenges. Let's build it together. #MissionFirstPeopleAlways

Organizations become what they promote. If every executive promotion reinforces the same worldview, the same instincts, the same background, you’re not building adaptability. You’re reinforcing comfort. “Culture fit” often feels safe. But in volatile markets, homogeneity is fragility. We broke this down in detail here: https://lnkd.in/gdMf36B8 Tomorrow, we’ll release a new blog outlining a structured framework for auditing leadership adaptability. In the meantime, ask yourself: Has your bench diversified intellectually in the last 24 months? If not, that’s not a recruiting issue; it’s a strategy issue. And we can help: https://lnkd.in/eAA3HCt9 #ExecutiveBenchStrength #LeadershipDiversityOfThought #CLevelHiringStrategy #ExecutiveRecruitingInsights #AdaptabilityAudit #KerstenTalentCapital

Today’s HR signal is strategic caution, not chaos. CEOs are signaling a low-hire, low-fire market in 2026 while AI continues to shape workforce narratives. Leaders must anchor their talent strategy in capability, not headcount; govern AI with clarity; elevate HR as a strategic partner; and double down on human experience as a competitive advantage. The future of work is being designed, not discovered. THE HR LANDSCAPE — TODAY’S SIGNALS C-suite sentiment signals a “low-hire, low-fire” labor market. The latest Conference Board survey finds most CEOs are not planning workforce expansion in 2026, citing economic uncertainty and AI as factors shaping cautious hiring, although layoffs remain contained due to talent scarcity and relatively strong sales. AI narratives are influencing workforce decisions, and scrutiny is rising. OpenAI’s CEO suggests some companies may be using “AI-washing” as a convenient rationale for restructuring rather than real automation displacement, underscoring the need for leaders to separate rhetoric from real strategic change. Role redesign and skill signals are emerging. HR hiring trends show AI-related competencies and strategic HR specialties gaining traction even as overall HR job openings remain more cautious, reflecting evolving expectations for HR leadership and capability. HR trend intelligence confirms a strategic pivot. Leading analyses reinforce that AI integration, skills-based design, employee experience, and workforce adaptability are the forces reshaping how HR creates and sustains value in 2026. WHAT THIS MEANS FOR LEADERS Workforce planning is back at the strategic table. A low-hire, low-fire market means leaders must optimize for quality of capability over sheer scale, with talent portfolios tied to strategic outcomes. Narrative integrity matters. As AI becomes part of workforce discourse, leaders must avoid superficial claims and ground their decisions in transparent, measurable strategy lest trust erodes across employees and stakeholders. HR leadership must evolve beyond traditional execution to strategic design. With roles and skill requirements shifting, HR must co-draft workforce architecture with business strategy, not merely respond to it. Employee experience and resilience are competitive chips. Stable labor markets and talent scarcity make engagement, development, and psychological safety differentiators in retaining and activating key contributors. LEADERSHIP TAKEAWAYS ✔ Treat talent strategy as enterprise strategy. ✔ Anchor AI adoption in measurable performance outcomes. ✔ Elevate HR roles that bring strategic insight and capability planning. ✔ Build experience ecosystems that sustain retention. ✔ Skill signals define advancement pathways. EXECUTIVE ACTION STEPS 1) Embed Workforce Strategy Into Core Planning Cycles 2) Stand Up a Strategic AI Governance Framework 3) Expand HR Leadership Influence 4) Strengthen Experience-Based Metrics 5) Invest in Skills-Forward Mobility Engines

💡 Are executives truly serving their teams with their "open door" policy and “I'll fix it for you" leadership style? I came across an insightful article on SHRM - "The Serial Fixer". The article (link in comments) states that when HR and leaders are accessible and available to solve every problem, they end up undermining team capabilities and growth. #HR professionals and senior leaders often feel compelled to provide immediate answers. Good intentions matter, but sustainable #leadership that expands team and organizational effectiveness functions differently. Here are three shifts in mindset and behavior: ✅ Empower, not override - Jumping straight to solutions builds dependency and ruins opportunities for others to think, own, and lead. Empowerment strengthens trust and sharing resources builds capability. ✅ Coach through complexity - Asking the right questions and guiding decision-making elevates the system. The goal is not to be the smartest person in the room, but to enable a room full of smart problem-solvers. ✅ Prioritize long-term strength over short-term relief - Quick fixes may feel efficient, but they rarely scale. Investing in clarity, accountability, and decision frameworks ultimately drives agile, resilient and high-performing teams. Challenges today are messy, uncertain and interconnected. As organizations continue evolving with AI, hybrid work, leaner teams and shifting expectations, strong leadership enables talent to navigate, adapt and thrive. Successful leaders aspire to enable solutions, ditching the fixer, hero and "chief problem-solver” labels. The next time someone calls you for help - pause and ask yourself, “Is this a moment to solve, or a moment to strengthen?” 😇 #SHRM #LeadershipDevelopment #LearningandDevelopment #GrowthMindset #Coaching
