Sources I've chatted with over the past few months have been hot on ACCESS as a way to open up a big market for digital health companies. That excitement tempered in reaction to the lower-than-expected rates that got announced this month. For Endpoints News, Shelby Livingston's got a must-read on why those rates may be entirely the point.

This PLOS Digital Health scoping review quantifies how rare community engagement is in healthcare AI research. Our focus is the headline finding: 21 out of ~10,880 articles (0.2%) described community involvement, and only one study included community stakeholders in designing an application. This gap helps explain why tools can appear effective in controlled settings and still underperform for the communities most impacted. Read: https://lnkd.in/dkBDux_i

You need to get ready for agentic AI. But how? The CRISP model gives you all the steps in a framework designed to prepare your content as a data layer to power every audience experience. And this isn’t just for healthcare- every industry needs to be thinking about how to prepare for this sea change. Check out the CMI article in the comments below.

Digital health investment is on pace to surpass last year’s total, but the market’s steady numbers may not tell the full story. In the third quarter, U.S. digital health companies raised $3.5 billion across 107 deals, bringing the year-to-date total to $9.9 billion across 351 deals, according to a report by Rock Health. That total is well ahead of 2024’s pace, and the average deal size of $28.1 million has also increased from the $20.4 million recorded last year. “Capital is flowing … But what once looked like temporary detours—unlabeled funding rounds and uneven fundraising timelines—have proven more enduring, settling in as standing features of today’s market,” the report’s authors wrote. These “unlabeled” raises, which are rounds without traditional labels like Series A or Series B, now account for 35% of digital health financings in 2025, the research found. That figure is below the peak of 55% in fourth quarter of 2023 but significantly above the single-digit levels prior to 2021. Rock Health stated that the trend complicates how investors, startups, and buyers assess company maturity and performance. Though funding totals remain strong, Rock Health cautioned that the structure of that funding indicates an uneven recovery. Early- and late-stage companies are finding paths to capital, but those in the middle face longer runways and blurred valuations. The shift toward unlabeled and irregular rounds makes it harder to identify companies building true momentum. MAHA roadmap: what health tech should actually care about Politico/Reuters coverage of the new Make America Healthy Again (#MAHA) roadmap—rolled out by the White House with HHS Sec. Robert F. Kennedy Jr.—lands with a theme: lots of recommendations, few immediate regulatory teeth. Emphasis on food environments, advertising to kids, “trust” in EPA pesticide approvals, and more research on vaccines/chemical exposures. My read in 5 lines (operator lens): 1. Policy vibe = soft power now, hard rules later. Expect guidelines, definitions, and task forces first (e.g., “ultra-processed food” definition; NIH chronic-disease task force), not sweeping bans. Translation: watch for grant calls and standards, not surprise fines. 2. Kids’ marketing under the microscope. More scrutiny of food/drug ads to children, including social and telehealth channels, will spill into digital workflows (age gating, audit trails, creative reviews). Build this into campaign ops now. 3. Pesticides: less restriction than many expected. The roadmap leans toward “build public trust in approvals” rather than curbs—industry relief, activist backlash. Implication: near-term status quo for supply chains; keep ESG/labeling claims conservative. 4. Vaccines: more study, no schedule rewrite (yet). Politically delicate; administration signaling research + transparency vs. immediate changes. Health apps tackling immunization reminders should stick to ACIP/CDC guidance and avoid speculative claims. 5. Dietary guidance may tilt “whole foods.” Expect messaging around full-fat dairy/meat/veg and a formal UPF definition—if you do nutrition coaching or food-as-medicine, align copy and outcome measures accordingly. 90-day checklist for health-tech teams - Marketing & growth: add an under-18 compliance path (consents, content review, audit logs). - Product: map where your UX touches food, vaccines, or pediatric claims; tighten evidence and disclaimers. - Data & research: prep to respond to NIH/agency RFPs on chronic disease, exposures, and child health; package your outcomes for grant language. - ESG/brand: avoid over-promising on “chemical-free/clean” narratives; keep sourcing and labeling substantiated. - Stakeholder comms: brief clinicians and payers that you’re aligned to guidelines-first (not politics), with measurable Q3–Q4 outcomes. Net-net: not a regulatory shockwave, but a signal of where public conversation (and funding) may go. Smart teams will tune their messaging, guardrails, and metrics now—so if/when rules harden, they’re already compliant. Where should federal attention go first: prevention, pediatrics, or misinformation?

This is an interesting approach -- you've heard about ChatGPT Health and other AI health applications...but this one may be a model to watch...Stay Tuned! "We’ve built an AI doctor, powered by real doctors and the latest evidence. One that’s deeply personalized and able to diagnose, prescribe, and refer. Anytime. For free. Not generic AI answers. Real clinical guidance from licensed physicians, supercharged by AI that makes them 10x more productive and eliminates the paperwork standing between you and your care."

Pretty much every digital health vendor now claims to be "AI-powered," but how do you cut through the marketing noise to find solutions that actually deliver? I chatted with Dr. Anand Rao, PhD, MBA and Sundar Subramanian to find out. Here are some of the strategies they shared with me: -- Start with the problem, not the technology. Don't ask "Where can I plug AI?" Instead, identify your specific outcome first, then determine if AI can help achieve it. -- Understand what's under the hood. Ask vendors about their underlying AI technology. Is it traditional predictive modeling, generative AI or multi-agent systems? Each serves a different purpose. -- Demand proof, not promises. Request real-world case studies, performance metrics and detailed explanations beyond flashy marketing materials. As Dr. Rao noted: "Just because we've got LLMs, we don't have to ditch all the things that are currently working." When I founded Digital Health New York along with Kevin Ryan Brenton Fargnoli, M.D. and AlleyCorp, we had a clear and ambitious goal: to help establish New York as the center of digital health innovation. At the time, that vision felt bold. The ecosystem was emerging, the community was small, and the future was still taking shape. Today, New York is recognized as a global hub for digital health companies, investors, health systems, and innovators. Watching this community grow and collaborate has been one of the great privileges of my career. DHNY has played a meaningful role in building and connecting this ecosystem. That impact belongs to all of you. The founders, investors, health system leaders, partners, and friends who showed up, supported one another, and believed in what New York could become. As DHNY enters its next phase, the organization is evolving alongside the market we helped create. I am pleased to share that Amanda Kanaga will step into the role of Chief Executive Officer. Amanda brings strong operational leadership, deep healthcare expertise, and the ability to scale mission-driven organizations. I could not be more excited because Amanda is the right leader to guide DHNY through its next chapter of growth and opportunity. I will transition into the role of Chairman of the Board. I remain deeply committed to DHNY’s mission and to this extraordinary community. I will continue to help shape our strategic vision, stewarding relationships, and supporting the organization’s long-term success. I am especially excited to see DHNY Summit continue to grow as the leading event for our community and a catalyst for the next phase of innovation and connection. This transition strengthens our foundation while sharpening our execution. Our mission remains unchanged. Our commitment to advancing New York’s digital health ecosystem remains strong. Our ambition for the future is even greater. Thank you to everyone who has been integral to the journey particularly Anand Gan Jennifer Newman Jane Suh and Alexi Nazem. In addition, we could not have come this far without the support of our members, speakers and sponsors. I am incredibly proud of what we have built together. And stay tuned: I will be sharing more about my next chapter soon.

I’m in San Francisco this week for the @J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference, and the big news so far is Anthropic’s launch of Claude for Healthcare. Anthropic is rolling out generative AI tools built for health systems and payers. The emphasis is on working inside regulated environments and supporting practical needs like prior authorization, care coordination, and documentation. The move comes shortly after OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Health and OpenAI for Healthcare last week, underscoring how quickly major AI players are moving into the healthcare space. Supreme Communications client Carta Healthcare is part of the launch, with a case study included in Anthropic’s announcement. For Carta Healthcare’s customers, this means AI models that better understand clinical records and support more consistent data extraction, even as documentation formats evolve. Taken together, these developments reflect a broader priority across healthcare to work more efficiently with complex data while staying within regulatory and reimbursement constraints. Voice AI is Becoming Healthcare’s Operating Layer A few years ago, voice AI in healthcare mostly meant phone bots and note tools. In 2026, that view feels too small. Voice AI is becoming the always-on layer that helps patients, staff, and systems talk to each other, all day, across the full care journey. When people call it an operating layer, they mean something simple. It listens, understands the request, starts the right task, updates the record, and connects the person to the next best step....

On episode #178 of #TheShot of #DigitalHealth Therapy, Jim Joyce and I had a blast chatting with Jonathan Pearce, the thoughtful and forward-looking CEO of Masterlete - and previously the co-founder and CEO of Zipnosis, the company that pioneered asynchronous telemedicine long before it was mainstream. From balancing athlete-grade performance with mental resilience to building a company that refuses to compromise between data and empathy, Jon brings his trademark blend of humility and precision. He also opened up about his own mental health journey, reminding us that resilience isn’t just a leadership skill - it’s a human one. It’s an episode that reminds us - even in a world of algorithms and wearables, the human spirit still defines the win. 📺 - YouTube - https://lnkd.in/dvDHg9RE 🍏 - Spotify - https://lnkd.in/dbKpEcTE 🍎 - Apple - https://lnkd.in/dsRW-svh 🔹 Top 5 Key Takeaways 💻 Lessons from Zipnosis: how DTC missteps became powerful playbooks 🤖 AI enables personalization - not replacement 🔥 Burnout prevention is the next performance edge 📊 From wearables to wisdom: data needs translation 🎯 Leadership = clarity, curiosity, and constant iteration Fun mentions as always: Pat Sukhum John Brownlee

Conferences create meaningful moments with #HCPs, but turning that activity into measurable outcomes remains a challenge. #Geofencing changes this by capturing physician-level engagement tied directly to #NPI data. Marketers can see not only who engaged with their message, but also how they interacted, creating a clear path to follow up. Geofencing makes it possible to reach attendees during the event and re-engage them for 30 days afterward, transforming #conference marketing into a scalable, data-driven opportunity. Agentic AI vs. The Hype Tax Healthcare is moving from chatbots to autonomous AI systems that manage real clinical workflows. But no one wants to test their life on something “trending.” When technology impacts patient outcomes, hype becomes dangerous. Clinicians won’t adopt what they don’t fully trust. Investors won’t fund what feels risky. Patients won’t accept experimentation disguised as innovation. That’s the Hype Tax. The more advanced your AI becomes, the less you can rely on buzzwords and the more you must prove the mechanism. At JOTO PR, our Anti-PR approach focuses on replacing hype with clarity. We don’t amplify noise. We build authority by explaining the causal truth behind how your technology reduces risk and removes administrative burden. In healthcare, you don’t win by sounding new. You win by sounding certain. Stop being a trending AI company. Start becoming the industry standard. Of all the AI market overviews that have hit the wire recently, none have generated more buzz than Menlo Venture’s State of AI in Healthcare. And Jason Barry's coverage in Digital Health Wire makes it easy to see why. A couple things that stood out to me.... >> Healthcare AI spending has already topped $1.4B in 2025. >> 22% of healthcare orgs have implemented domain-specific AI tools, up a whopping 7x from last year. >> 85% of all healthcare AI spend is currently flowing into startups, rather than incumbents (I didn't expect this) One thing that wasn't surprising, healthcare systems are prioritizing AI that offers ... -- Tech maturity -- Low risk level -- Quick ROI Which means that the lions share of 2025 AI spending went to Ambient documentation ($600M) and Coding and billing automation ($450M). Check out today's DHW for the full breakdown.
