Anne-Marie Schaffer shared thisSometimes you’re lucky enough to catch lightning in a bottle. That’s what my time at Merkle felt like. Today, David Williams brought nearly 600 former Merkle-ites back together—and seeing so many familiar faces was a powerful reminder that what we had was truly special. The people. The energy. The culture. The Merkle magic. So grateful to have been a part of it—and even more grateful to reconnect with so many people who made that chapter unforgettable.

It's a truly exciting time to be building the next generation of capabilities, today.Anne-Marie Schaffer reposted thisAI is transforming how automotive brands bring vehicles to market and build lasting customer relationships. But alongside the promise of hyper-personalization and predictive insight comes a critical challenge: maintaining customer trust in an AI-driven world. In VML’s latest Unlock whitepaper, “The AI-Powered Automotive Revolution: A Strategic Blueprint for the Modern Automotive CMO,” Tom Corey and Nick Brunker outline how automotive leaders can harness AI to drive operational efficiency across the content supply chain, increasing Customer Lifetime Value and accelerating speed to market, while building the governance and transparency needed to protect brand trust. From overcoming inefficient and time-intensive model year content cycles to closing the post-sale experience gap and strengthening data privacy practices, the paper presents a practical framework for deploying AI in ways that are both scalable and trustworthy. Anne-Marie Schaffer shared thisAs a newbie at WPP, experiencing this is a game changer.Anne-Marie Schaffer shared thisIf all you’re doing is using agents to write copy and generate images, you’re basically using a Formula 1 car to pop to Tesco. 🏎️ 🛒 👇 My latest column for The Drum is out now: "The new agency bench - human judgement, AI agents & Rory Sutherland’s brain" In it, I talk about how to make the most of AI agents in marketing, how WPP is distilling decades of experience into the new Super Agents in its Agent Hub, and why teams of orchestrated agents can beat single-agent deployments. A special nod to WPP's CTO Stephan Pretorius for inspiring this piece with one of the best lines I’ve heard recently. He described the behavioural science super-agent in Agent Hub as “effectively Rory’s brain in an agent.” It’s not literally Rory, of course - it’s decades of behavioural science practice codified and made accessible at the moment decisions are being made - but the metaphor is so powerful. And that’s the real promise of agents for marketers: not churning out more content faster, but putting specialist ways of thinking into more hands, more often. 👉 Read the full column here: https://lnkd.in/eqguhQmS

Anne-Marie Schaffer reacted on thisAnne-Marie Schaffer reacted on thisMy time at The University of Texas at Austin is over and a post is in order. Okay I need to preface, I am not one to make formal posts on anything so I won't start now. However, this was such an excellent highlight to bring my chapter at UT to a close. This was a project for Mazda in how to better market the CX-5 Gen-Z and some thanks and appreciations must be had. I also recognize this is the end of my time at UT and want to use this to reflect on what I took away and grew with. But first, the (All new) Mazda CX-5 project: Anne-Marie Schaffer , Matt Ball, and Paige Raiczyk, all of you were very kind to have given us this project opportunity! I hope that we offered something that you could use and my passion aspects to your pitch (the gaming world aspect) offered some new insight. As I said before I would love to talk further on that. Between the time of my Xbox pitch to Aaron Greenberg and his team and to all of you for Mazda, my understanding of the gaming market and low barrier integrations has improved with both projects. Thank you and I hope to hear from you in the future. James Dalthorp, between you and Valerie Salinas-Davis, you two were the best part of attending UT Austin. Even as quick as my speed run was for my BA, you two stand out among all that and I will stay in touch, thank you both. And to my teammates, thank you. Specifically thank you to Sofia Atkinson for being an excellent leader and Cassidy Wen. You both had excellent communication and delegation which allowed me to focus on my passion of the project with the Mazda moved pass and gaming related genera. Augustin Escobedo, Luke Adams, Jonathan ( I cannot find your LinkedIn, apologies), thank you my groupmates of media for getting done what I assigned and meeting on time. UT takeaway: * The professors make the class. Not literally (well yes literally) but rather they define the quality by the quality of their person, and if you get a high quality professor (who is also a high quality person), go the extra mile to prove to them their time hasn't been wasted and say yes to what ever challenge they throw at you. * The most important things you learn and achieve are outside of the class room. * Weave what you are passionate in into everything you do. For me I found it was the video game industry. I think I should wrap it up, this email is too long and there is more work to be done. Catch you all later!

Anne-Marie Schaffer liked thisAnne-Marie Schaffer liked thisAlong side more than 600 former colleagues, I made my way to a "reunion" this past Saturday in Maryland, conceived and hosted by David Williams. Like those hundreds of others I was given a chance to reconnect, remember, and reflect on what was arguably the most transformative experience in all of our careers. It was a rare happening, and obviously a special moment for everybody. Thank you, David. Just like those 600 in attendance, and the thousands more who wanted to be there, or were there in spirit, I am filled with gratitude. You have often pointed out how rarely people build something like Merkle. "It's hard," you've said. Your leadership, your tenacity, your constant curiosity, and the courage to say the brutal truths - those qualities won out over the 'hard'. Those qualities caused thousands to follow, giving their time and talents to the effort. None of that happens without leadership. So again, thank you. I am indebted to David for the opportunities he provided me, the lessons he and so many others taught me during my time at Merkle - lessons I am still working on years later. Too many Merkle-isms for one post (hopefully Dave Paulus is turning them into a book). On Saturday, David also said Merkle was a 'vessel.' I suppose it was a container, or a vehicle, a platform... whatever you choose to call it, it was a way for so many people to come together and build something amazing. If you were at Merkle for a year, or ten, or 32, you were part of it. And what a time it was! Finally, I would like to suggest that it was not as much a reunion, as it was a CELEBRATION! A celebration of a time, a place, and an ever-changing multitude of people - who were lucky enough to be present. I will always be grateful, but I also know I was lucky to be a part of any of it. Damn lucky! Here's to all of you Merkle alumn!!

Anne-Marie Schaffer reacted on thisDuring my last semester I had an amazing opportunity at The Lab UT to work with WPP on this campaign for Mazda's CX-5. This was such an exciting project as the creative director, helping shape the campaign through our creative executions. I want to give a big thanks to James Dalthorp, who guided us throughout this 8-week process and helped me understand the nitty-gritty of creating a cohesive campaign that resonates with the brand. Also, to the WPP team, Matt Ball and Anne-Marie Schaffer, I am so grateful for this opportunity and for the insight you all provided from the get-go, and to Paige Raiczyk, who graciously gave us her time to provide vital feedback for the campaign. I want to congratulate the rest of the directors, Sofia Atkinson, Liam Llewellyn, and Claire Spillman, who worked with me from day one of this campaign. I learned so much from all of you through the amazing leadership, tenacity, and insightful perspectives you brought to this project. Lastly, I want to thank my creative team, Milla Simone Ochoa, Jarrett Stewart, Nathan Zavala, and Alvin Hsia. You all brought great ideas to the table. I am so proud and grateful to have worked with such an inventive and highly engaged team! A snapshot of our pitch: https://lnkd.in/ghSfN_32Anne-Marie Schaffer reacted on thisThis summer, students in the Integrated Communications Campaigns class partnered with Mazda, represented by the WPP agency, the largest advertising group in the world. Taught by James Dalthorp, assistant professor of practice in the Stan Richards School of Advertising and Public Relations, the class aims to replicate a real-world agency. “We aren’t just presenting in front of our fellow students like we have in previous classes, we’re presenting in front of real business clients and they’re taking our ideas seriously.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/geZN3gT6

Reconnecting with those we consider friends and family, not merely coworkers. Being part of the culture that David Williams led at Merkle is something few get to experience. Getting us back together in one reunion? that's a whole new level. "Thank you" doesn't express the gratitude of having the chance to fall back into conversations, hugs, laughter, and friendships with some you haven't seen in many years. I'm sad as I know there are several I missed, but my heart is full with the reconnection I was able to have. Thank you! I can't list everyone and wish I had taken a lot more pics! Anne-Marie Schaffer reacted on thisAnne-Marie Schaffer reacted on thisThis past weekend almost 600 former and current Merkle employees made there way to my home in Maryland to celebrate our time together at Merkle. I have to say when I sent the first invitation out earlier this year I had no idea what to expect. I always hoped we were building something special at Merkle. Not just building a market leading business but a place where our team developed deep personal relationships that would endure overtime. All I can say is wow! Wow in seeing multiple generations of Merkle team members spend there own money to come spend time with friends and colleagues from all over the world was beyond my expectations. We always said at Merkle that business was personal and boy were we right! I am super proud of the business we build at Merkle during my 32 year tenure as CEO. We grew 24% a year for 32 years straight and did some amazing work for thousands of world class customers. Lots to be proud of but I am more proud of the team. Proud of how we worked our butts off together as a team, learned together as a team, grew together as a team and had a tone of fun along the way. This past weekend was a testiment to the respect, relationships and friendships that were build during our journey together. This past weekend didn’t feel like a company reunion it felt more like a family reunion and for that I am most proud to have been a part of it. Thanks to everyone for making the trip. It was great to see everyone again and truly wish you all great success in your lives! Let’s stay in touch.

Over the last few years, as I’ve worked at intersection of sports, adtech, MarTech, and digital advertising, I’ve observed a fascinating trend: the rise and success of niche tech firms specifically targeting sports clients. While I might not categorize Genius Sports alongside the other niche companies mentioned in a recent Digiday article, the experience has been enlightening. It has opened my eyes to a plethora of sport/entertainment technology companies that I hadn’t encountered in my previous non-sports-focused roles. I think companies that I worked closely with in sports, including Adobe, Google Cloud , and my former colleagues at Amazon /Amazon Web Services (AWS) still shape the ecosystem the way they do in many other industries, but the impact of the sport-specific technology vendors cannot be underestimated. This raises an intriguing question: what impact are these niche firms having in shaping the future of sports technology, and what innovative solutions are they bringing to the table? I’ll be focusing on this question and getting a better sense of the UK/European sports tech landscape next week at the Leaders in Sport event at Twickenham, and I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences on this evolving landscape, especially from anyone attending next week…

Today at Portada Chicago, I had the opportunity to sit in on a panel exploring what cultural relevance really means in today’s landscape, and more importantly, what it demands of us as marketers and leaders. Cultural relevance isn’t something you add on to a plan. It’s something you build from the start with intention, empathy, and a deep understanding of the communities you’re trying to serve. It’s not about chasing trends. It’s about recognizing signals, respecting context, and showing up in ways that are meaningful while still driving business outcomes. Reach gets you seen. Cultural relevance gets you chosen.

📺 Don’t overlook TV in 2026. If your PSA plan isn’t leveraging TV, you’re missing a key driver of attention and impact. The landscape keeps evolving, but TV remains a core backbone for broad awareness that digital alone can’t fully replace. TV may not be the “shiny new thing,” but this Adweek article shows why it has to be part of 2026 media plans. https://lnkd.in/g_SM8jxw A few points that jumped out at me: • 83% of advertisers say they’re confident TV will deliver strong outcomes in 2026. • 77% plan to increase their TV budgets next year. • 92% cite incremental reach and 92% cite measurable performance as the biggest benefits of TV. TV is now being held to the same accountability standards as digital. For PSAs, that’s huge. TV isn’t just “brand awareness” anymore. When it’s planned with digital, it can: 👉 Reach people who will never see your social or search ads 👉 Make your message feel familiar so other channels perform better 👉 Blend linear scale with streaming’s targeting and measurement so donated or paid impressions work harder So as you look at 2026 PSA plans, the question isn’t “TV or digital?” It’s: How do we get TV and digital working together so every spot, impression, and donated placement pushes in the same direction? I’m curious how others are approaching this: Are you leaning more into streaming, keeping linear in the mix, or re-introducing TV after focusing mostly on digital the last few years? If you’re thinking how TV and CTV fit into your PSA strategy, I’m always happy share what we’re seeing across campaigns—feel free to connect or DM me. #TVAdvertising #PSA #MediaPlanning #Streaming #LinearTV #MarketingStrategy #2026Planning #Connect360Multimedia
