Really grateful to Ray Allegrezza and Furniture Today for this piece on Merchkit! "Teams shouldn't spend their time fixing spreadsheets. They should be focused on merchandising strategy and growth." I've watched too many furniture & home brands burn months just getting product data into shape for Wayfair or Walmart. Months!! For what should be a configuration problem, not a headcount problem. We built Merchkit because the gap between "we have product data" and "our data is actually marketplace-ready" is where brands lose time, money, and listings. If you're a supplier still manually wrangling spreadsheets to get listed - there's a better way. ⚠️ OpenAI is walking back on rolling out instant checkout in ChatGPT!!  "OpenAI staff had realized that while ChatGPT users were researching products to buy in the chatbot, they weren’t using the chatbot to actually help them make purchases, one person familiar with the project said." I'm seeing folks saying OpenAI is abandoning ecommerce. Let's calm down folks, it's far from the truth. Users will research products in AI all day long. They just won't buy there (for a while). OpenAI found that out the hard way, and now they basically concede the catalog infrastructure layer to Google's existing infra built with Google Shopping + Merchant Center and now their UCP protocol. Which makes sense. The actual hard problem was never "put a buy button in a chatbot." It's normalized, structured product data that agents can act on. They will track back and rely further on retail partners to provide them that normalized catalog data - first from Amazon & Walmart but surely also expecting to scrape from niche and regional retailers as well. For my retail execs: agentic commerce is about product discovery & search right now. Not checkout. Checkout at scale is still years out. We're building Merchkit for the help you need to win TODAY, getting retailer data ready for what's coming. The race isn't for the buy button. It's for the catalog. #AgenticCommerce #RetailStrategy #UCP #ProductData #AI

No one shopping online can tell the difference between a $499 sofa and a $5,000 sofa. But AI can. LLMs now evaluate furniture the same way a million-dollar salesperson would: materials, construction, foam density, coils, wood, leather grade. Which means your product data just became your new sales team. I have to say that again: Your product data just became you new sales team 🥺 AI is no longer a “tool in the background.” It’s actively deciding what gets recommended. Manufacturers who treat data like marketing fluff will lose. Manufacturers who treat data like sales intelligence will win. AI isn’t a silent partner anymore. It’s on the floor, selling. #Merchkit #AIinbusiness

I put together a simple explanation of how LLMs actually formulate product recommendations. Attached is the reasoning chain flow at a high level so you can understand the areas and specific inputs in which you can influence. SEO still matters. LLMs still do real-time web search and it feeds into how they build their knowledge graph. Keep doing that work. But your product feed data & on-page content is where I'd focus most of your effort now. When someone asks ChatGPT "Should I get a modular sofa or a statement piece for my Vancouver apartment?" the LLM tries to understand all of the nuances that can help answer that question. "Which attributes about sofas will help me with a good response?" and this will pull from: - Structured attributes in your feed (materials, dimensions, style tags) - Rich content from your PDPs that can actually be cited back to the customer - Dynamic data like pricing and shipping times about availability If your feed is missing the attributes that answer real customer questions, your products will not take share of that conversation. SEO gets you into the knowledge graph and with initial discoverability. Your product data determines whether you get recommended and if you can influence the response towards your products. The brands & retailers I'm seeing win at AI shopping right now are the ones making sure every product has the structured attributes and rich content that LLMs need to confidently cite them in a recommendation. And if you need a tool to automate all this work for you across your catalog in bulk, well you know who to call 🫡

Website traffic is down 30% or more. Here is what to do about it. 👇 You are not doing anything wrong. The way people discover products has changed. A lot of research now happens inside AI tools. If your products are not understood there, traffic drops before buyers ever reach your site. Here is the simple fix. 1. Your product data matters more than pages. AI reads structure, not marketing fluff. Titles, specs, price, availability, and reviews must be clear and accurate. 2. Write for real questions. Who is this for. What problem does it solve. When should someone choose it. Answer those directly on your product pages. 3. Trust beats volume. Verified reviews, consistent specs, and honest claims help AI choose you over competitors. 4. Fewer clicks does not mean less demand. Research is happening before the click. If you are invisible to AI, you never get the chance. SEO is NOT dead. It is expanding into AI discovery and answers. Retailers who clean up and enrich their product data will win the next wave. Merchkit Bijan Vaez #AIinbusiness #LVFMT Furniture Today

Most people think ChatGPT searches like Google. It doesn't. I was just explaining this in my interview with Justin King to the B2B eCommerce Association. ChatGPT knows who's asking the question. It knows if you're a technical engineer in Ohio or a procurement manager in Singapore. It has context about what you're trying to solve. And when it scrapes your product pages looking for answers, it's not just matching keywords - it's evaluating whether your content actually answers that specific person's specific question. If your PDP just lists basic specs and a generic description? ChatGPT moves on. Finds a competitor who actually explains how their industrial pump handles high-viscosity fluids at extreme temperatures. Or how their furniture line solves space constraints in urban offices. 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀. Material composition, load ratings, compatibility specs, use cases - all sitting in your database. But most companies never connect these dots in their product copy. We're seeing manufacturers who finally get this pull ahead fast. They're taking every attribute, every specification, every technical detail and weaving it into content that actually helps AI understand what problems their products solve. A distributor we work with saw their products start appearing on ChatGPT. They didn't change their products. They just started explaining them the way AI needs to understand them. Your competitors are still optimizing for Google's 2015 algorithm - it's quite easy to get ahead of them with Merchkit - DM me to show you how!
