  • You want to be a nurse, but you want to do it with your cat in your lap? Laura G. has the answer.⁣ ⁣ Working at the bedside is demanding. And as Laura moved along in her career, this demand started to take a toll.⁣ ⁣ In addition to the physical demand of the role becoming harder, she had young kids at home and a husband who was deployed through the military. She needed more home-life balance and flexibility. That's when she decided she needed a change.⁣ ⁣ "The biggest reason why I wanted to make the switch was a combination of things: my home life, needing better hours, and not being so burnt out on both ends because of the 12 hour shifts," Laura said. "I wanted to be there for my family at dinner time and to help them out in the mornings and at bedtime, as well as still using my skills."⁣ ⁣ This brought her to the long-term support services (LTSS) team in Delaware where she switched to a case manager role that offered a consistent Monday-Friday schedule and flexibility that enabled her to be there for her children. "I immediately felt relief," Laura said. "I was able to actually finish my day and not feel like I was dead to the world. And my manager, specifically, is very big on saying it's 5 o'clock, get off the computer."⁣ ⁣ Even though she's no longer at the bedside, she still gets to make an impact as a nurse. "For people who become nurses because they are compassionate and caring and they want to help people, this is the best stepping stone to leave the bedside. We all have to leave the bedside eventually. It's very demanding. It's hard on your body. This is the next step to keep that mentality of helping people and showing care and compassion. You're just doing it in a different way."⁣ ⁣ Learn more about our LTSS team in Delaware and apply today!⁣ https://bit.ly/4xm6LiT⁣

  • Trust is built, or broken, in the moments that matter most to the people we serve. Highmark Health President Karen Hanlon shares that in order to redefine consumer experiences in healthcare, industry leaders have a responsibility to create one that is transparent, personalized and easy to navigate. By being reliable and guiding people through their care journeys, we can help them feel confident and more engaged in their health. She says, "My vision for the healthcare industry is to offer an experience so seamless and intuitive that it doesn't feel like a healthcare experience at all. It feels different." • The Highmark Courtyard at Arts Landing is a beautiful and welcoming recreation space that makes downtown Pittsburgh much more vibrant!

I lived in downtown Pittsburgh for many years, and my wife and I saw the best of the city firsthand – from walking to shows or dinners out to Picklesburgh and having sports right at our doorstep. But we also saw what was lacking – reasons to bring families and friends downtown – and places and spaces to take our young grandchildren. That’s what makes me so proud of the Highmark Courtyard at Arts Landing. This new space in collaboration with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust reflects our belief that health extends beyond the doctor’s office and into the places where people live, work and play. It also reinforces our longstanding commitment to a vibrant and welcoming downtown Pittsburgh.

  • Becker's Healthcare asked Nebeyou Abebe, our senior vice president of social health, how he was thinking about long-term sustainability in today’s environment. He highlights a shift from grant-funded, community-oriented programs to clinical programs that can yield cost savings, improve outcomes, and reduce hospitalizations, emergency visits or inpatient stays. Social health programs should start with the end in mind when designing a program to ensure sustainability and scalability, he said. Read more: https://bit.ly/4vV5e31
