Fighting games are not my norm, so I don't have another fighting game to compare too, but I played with a mate for about 10 hours overall and had a blast... My one issue which isn't a big deal, I want a 2v2 only option for searching, none of this 2v1 BS.

Dying, but playable offline.

The game that finally, really, got me over the fighting game hump. MK9 did this in a way, where I played it a lot and felt competitive in a small local group of friends. But 2XKO actually has me thinking about when to block, when to attack, how fast a certain attack is, and more! The art style is 2D and distinct. I personally am tired of all the 3D (2.5 D) they just look too uncanny to me. Guilty Gear is still the king here, but 2XKO represents it's characters well. Now really to the only negative. The small roster means you are facing the same fighters at a higher rate. With the roadmap looking now to add 5 more by the end of the year, I'm hoping that leaves things in a better state. I've had the chance to show some friends this game and introduce them to fighting games overall, and each one has found this to be the most approachable, and most importantly, the most fun. For that, I rate this game very highly! It's free to block (play)!
