What could be more intimidating than a huge hunk of metal fitted with guns and missiles, rolling towards you on the blood-soaked battlefield?
Vehicles are some of the most important pieces in your large-scale Battlefield 6 games. They can take out infantry, capture points, and even take out other vehicles owned by your opponents.
But these war machines can’t look after themselves, so it’s down to you to fix them when the smoke starts pluming. An effective engineer can easily turn the tide of battle if they know what they’re doing.
So let’s take a look at some Engineer loadouts and learn how to control these ingenious operators best.
Role Expectations
While you may spend a good chunk of your time with your repair tool, patching up vehicles and tanks, that isn’t the only job you have to do. In fact, there are several effective ways to play the Engineer.
In fact, the Engineer is actually a surprisingly offensive class—perhaps not as much as the Assault, but they spend a good chunk of time in the thick of it. You can be valuable operating the tanks' turrets or even driving the tank itself, jumping out to repair if you’re taking heavy fire.
Or, you can instead work on setting traps for enemy tanks or taking them out from afar with launchers. Improved hip-fire control with the Engineer’s SMGs will help you in close-quarters combat when you’re helping Assault members push up the battlefield. While you may not be the first to charge in, your assistance will be felt in those smaller maps with cramped, winding corridors.
The Best Engineer Class Loadouts In Battlefield 6
Of course, the way you play the Engineer is going to vary massively depending on the size of the map you’re playing. However, you can always have an impact on the state of the game.
Feel free to change your strategy depending on how aggressive the enemy is being. Battlefield matches are always in flux. You can be the one to tip the scales in your favour.

If there’s a tank available, you’re going to be right there, driving that hulking mass of metal around, or hanging on the back, playing a more supporting role with your repair tool in hand, waiting for the bullets to start flying.
While the tanks may seem pretty sturdy, they can actually go down pretty fast if you’re being targeted. The main mistakes I see people making all the time are simply driving the tanks down the main paths threaded through each map. There will almost always be mines planted here.
Instead, head down a sparsely travelled path, use the tank as cover for your team to dive on a contested point and clear out the enemies lying in wait. Have someone man the guns while you repair from outside. Or, if you have the Combat-Engineer training path, simply stay inside the tank, and it will passively repair itself, just by having you sitting inside. This makes you the best for either driving or gunning.
The SCW is great here, as it’s used best in close-range and has the highest damage per bullet of all SMGs. While it may have a pretty small magazine size, you won’t be spending that much time outside of the tank. Hop out in small bursts, fire off a mag and then jump back inside for safety.

Fed up with having your tanks blow up in your face while you’re trying to repair them? I know the feeling all too well. Well, it’s time to go on the offensive. Make your enemies feel that same pain.
This loadout is based around destroying your enemies' vehicles at all costs. The thing that’s going to help you most is the Anti-Armour path. When you damage enemy vehicles, you hinder the repair process for the opposing engineers due to the Devasting Impact buff.
In addition, you’ll get faster reload times for your RPG and also an extra 2 rockets for maximum offensive capabilities. The launchers are pretty terrible when used against infantry, but they excel when you shoot all 3 at an enemy tank. And if that tank has a bit of HP left, chuck your AV Grenade to finish it off.
You can sneak into enemy territory and plant AV mines on the roadways to snare enemy tanks, and retreat using your SL9, which is pretty effective even at long distances.

Not feeling like getting up in your enemies' faces? Well, similarly to the Recon Class, the engineer can operate pretty well from a distance.
You are best when piloting the Anti-Air tanks. This only has 1 seat, so you’re going to be doing this solo. Park your tank on the backlines, away from enemy fire and look into the sky. Not only do you have a primary shell which will shred through armour, but you also have a secondary missile for when the choppers start swarming.
Level up your tank for more options, like more powerful rounds and emergency repair capabilities.
If a tank isn’t an option, you can equip yourself with an SLM (at low levels) or, when it becomes available, the MAS 148. This allows you to take down any aerial vehicles when properly locked on. This takes a little bit of practice and time to get right, but as you’ll have multiple rockets due to your training path, you can do a lot of work from the backlines.
Since you’re often going to be pretty far from combat, pick an SMG with good ranged capabilities like the UMG. Not only does it have a sized mag, but it has good control and precision, which is essential when tapping from afar.

Found yourself on a tiny map with no vehicles, but still want to play engineer? Worry no more. The Engineer can function as a discount Assault class, and in some ways, can be even more effective.
Let’s focus on the first SMG you’re going to unlock. The SGX is a fantastic close-range weapon, made even better by your affinity for SMGs. With this, you’re not going to be aiming down the sights very much.
You can customise the SGX with things like a short barrel, stubby grip, converter and red laser to improve your hip-firing capabilities. With these, you’ll be extremely accurate at close range, being able to fire faster as you won’t need to worry about ADS. Dash around corners and take out your foes before they can even blink.
Looking at all of these options. It becomes pretty clear that the Engineer can really be played any way you want! It’s up to you to figure out which option suits you, and how you can have the most impact on the outcome of the game.
