Battlefield 6: All Classes Guide

The roar of jet engines screeches overhead as you find yourself once more, mired in the blood-soaked chaos of warfare. Screams echo around you, but you struggle on, intent on completing your mission.

Battlefield is back, folks, and with a vengeance. While there’s not really much to talk about in terms of the campaign, the multiplayer is where this gem really shines. And truly, your first few heart-pounding games will grab you hook, line, and sinker.

But which class do you want to play? And just how do you make the most of your selection? This game isn’t just about getting kills; remember, it’s about being a core part of the team and working together towards victory. So let’s take a look at each class and how we can utilise them to the fullest.

Open and Closed Weapons

Before we dive into the classes themselves, it’s important to note that you can actually play every class with any weapon that you choose. Recon with a Shotgun? Go for it. Unless you’re playing a modified mode on someone’s server that specifically states closed weapons, you’re free to go wild.

However, this doesn’t mean that it’s encouraged. In fact, by playing certain classes with the intended weapon types, you can get special bonuses. These bonuses are as follows:

• Assault Rifle Proficiency: Faster draw times with Assault Rifles.
• SMG Proficiency: Improved hip-fire control when using SMGs.
• LMG Proficiency: Faster transition to ADS and no spring speed penalty with LMGs.
• Sniper Rifle Proficiency: Reduced weapon sway, quicker rechambering and better breath control.

So, while you might want to switch up your weapons, it does make more sense to embrace the classes and their identities.

Assault

Overview

Chances are, this is the first class that you’ll play, and, in the right hands, can be the most impactful.

You are a frontline warrior, specialising in pushing forward and taking down opponents as you make your way up to the front of the battlefield. With your signature trait, Mission Focused, the team is counting on you to flank your enemies and secure those control points first. While you may be tempted to go solo, this class works best as part of a close-knit squad while using the Rally Squad active ability.

In addition to your primary weapon, you have access to another powerful weapon consisting of Gadgets, Carbines, DMRs or Shotguns. On top of this, you can carry a smaller secondary, too.

You will have less ammo in your main weapon if you choose to have another strong primary weapon with you. Pick a gadget for more ammo in your first pick.

Class Perks

If you happen to see any icon with a small blue triangle, that means it’s specialised for the Assault class. While any class can indeed use Assault Rifles, things like the Assault Ladder and certain grenades are locked to the Assault Class. You also have access to the adrenaline injector, which ups your resistances for a short while and gives you a sprint buff.

This class has 2 subclasses called Training Paths that can be viewed via the leftmost icon on the loadout screen. You will start with the Breacher path, which offers:

• Improved reloading times,
• More agile shooting capabilities
• Extra grenades.

The Frontliner path can be unlocked after hitting rank 20 by completing the Assault challenges in the Class section of the challenges page. This will grant you:

• Improved health regeneration.
• Reduced damage from falling.
• The adrenaline rush effect for squadmates who use you to spawn in.

These offer 2 rather different playstyles, giving you a choice to be more tactical in your approach or more aggressive.

Engineer

Overview

If you’re playing a medium or large-scale map, vehicles are going to be a big part of your experience. Whether it’s using tanks to push onto points and clear out the area, or repairing friendly gadgets that lay out in the field, it’s going to be up to you to be a tactician and mechanical specialist.

Your main objective is to make sure your vehicles are in tip-top shape with the signature repair tool gadget, while making it a nightmare for your opponents to maintain theirs. Stay close to your tanks for reduced explosive damage, and make sure you keep the enemies at bay. Improper use of tanks can easily cost your team the game, so make sure not to drive them blindly around into the fray without a plan.

Weapons-wise, the Engineer specialises in SMGs and launchers. You will get improved hipfire control while using SMGs, meaning you’re great in close-quarters combat, assisting the assault class.

In addition, when you see an enemy vehicle, you can whip out your launcher or plant some anti-tank mines to blow them up before they can start causing havoc.

Class Perks

The Engineer specialty icon looks like a little blue bolt with two notches in the top and bottom. Class-specific gear includes launchers, vehicle mines, and certain anti-tank grenades.

You will start with the Anti-Armour training path, offering the following bonuses:

• Damaging enemy vehicles stunts their repairs
• Quicker reload times for launchers
• An extra 2 rockets for a total of 3

The Combat-Engineer path can be unlocked after reaching rank 20 and completing the Engineer Class challenges. The rewards are as follows:

• Repair a vehicle simply by staying inside
• Use your gadgets for a longer period of time before they overheat
• Repair your team's gadgets and improve their health.

The Anti-Armour path is great if you want to focus on destroying your opponent's tech. Whereas the Combat-Engineer is better if you plan on maintaining your own.

Support

Overview

The battlefield is bloody and broken, torn apart by the horrors of war. It’s your job to put your team back together again and give them a second chance at victory.

If you see a downed player, it’s your job to drag them out of harm's way and revive them as quickly as possible. Not only will this save your team from losing a ticket, but you’ll also get a nice little XP reward for your efforts, too!

You can use your Class Active to revive quicker, or simply use your defibrillator to give them an instant revival, if you don’t have time to drag them off. Rubbing the defib together will give them a full 100% HP revival, whereas if you just do a quick revive, they will get up with 50% instead.

Apart from reviving, there are several other ways you can assist your team:

Evidently, the support class is quite a bit more complicated than the others and really requires you to be a team player. While you can, of course, use your LMG proficiency to lay down some covering fire and pick off anyone who threatens your role, you’re better off at the back of the pack, making sure your allies are properly supplied.

Class Perks

Anything that benefits the Support class is shown by the blue cross icon on your loadout screen. Incendiary and Smoke grenades, along with the defib and supply pouch, are all exclusive to the support class.

In terms of Training Paths, you have 2 very different options here. You start with Combat Medic with the following helpful benefits:

• Improved defensive gadget capabilities
• Health regeneration while assisting downed teammates
• Increased rate of dragging and reviving downed allies

The Fire Support path can be unlocked at rank level 20 through the Support class challenges. Fire Support offers a more offensive option for those who don’t want to spend all game reviving teammates:

• Improved aim when shooting from a mounted position
• When prone, take less splash damage from explosives
• Resupply ammo quickly when using the supply bag

If you want to be on the frontlines with your companions, assisting them in taking on the main objectives, Fire Support may be for you. There are plenty of ways to support your teammates, so choose the one that suits your playstyle.

Recon

Overview

Across the mud and plumes of burning smoke, a glint of light catches your eye. A sniper is trained on your very spot. Can you outmatch him, or will you be picked off like the rest of them?

The recon class is your backline defensive option, perfect for wielding snipers and gleaning intel about the opposition. Whether this is simply pointing out the enemy's location by targeting them with the Aim-Spot trait, or by using the recon drone for a more vertical approach, the Recon will help your front-forwards team to understand the state of the battlefield before they charge in, guns blazing.

This class has the Sniper Rifle Proficiency, making their long-range capabilities even more deadly. The rifle will sway less while being able to be rechambered faster, and you’ll even get better breath control passively.

While it’s easy to stay in one position and clip people as they pass your field of view, the Recon class is better when constantly on the move, covering as many line of sight positions as possible, and spotting foes on the move.

Class Perks

Any gear that benefits the Recon class is shown via the blue square icon. They get options like the Recon Drone, Proximity Sensor and powerful C4-explosive.

You will begin with the Sniper training path and the UAV Overwatch ability. The sniper path has the following buffs:

• Killing an enemy with a headshot will prevent them from being revived.
• If you inflict damage on an enemy, they will appear on the mini-map for everyone to see.
• Enhanced spotting abilities when aiming down the scope.

You can unlock the Spec-Ops training path after reaching rank 20 and completing the Recon assignments. This is a more stealthy approach and gives the following bonuses:

• Going prone will hide you from the enemy far more quickly
• Enemy Gadgets will appear to you and your team.
• Reduces the sound that you make, making you harder to predict.

For those who don’t enjoy the sniper playstyle as much, the spec ops path allows you to be more aggressive and sneak up on opponents from behind to cause chaos in the backlines. This allows the Recon to be far more flexible in their approach, assisting in their ability to scout and offer more concrete intel.
