Re: "Don't Kill the Disc": Petition Against Sony PS5 and PS6 Digital Media Plans Reaches 120,000 Signatures

One thing the change.org petition doesn't hit on is Digital price fixing.

There is a large discrepancy between digital and physical prices. Especially when it comes to used games. Time and time again, digital is shown to be much higher than its used physical counter part. While some of the value can be the condition of the disc and box, most prices are based on market value of interest in that game for the first few years. You don't get that with digital.

Digital prices seem to just be how much they can squeeze from the consumer. Some games are updated with enough content to justify the price. No Man's Sky is a good example. Although only when a game hits rock bottom do we see sales. Rarely are they permanent price drops. Is a game less fun just because it's older? No, but they can't control the interest of the game and prices should be adjusted for that.

I do want to talk about No Man's Sky pricing. I think the price is justified for the physical edition. Best Buy has the PS5 version for $32.99. Although it's sold by a third party through BB. BB doesn't sell it themselves. Walmart does the same thing. Amazon is basically resellers also even if it ships by Amazon. With all that said, what's the PSN price? $59.99. This is probably the most important bit that's not being talk about.

Technically speaking, digital is the future. Even though I'm on the physical side through and through, I do recognize the convenience of digital. The problem is digital allows for anti consumer abuse. They only get away with it now because physical is still an option.

Re: The Best Time to Build a Gaming PC Was a Year Ago, but the Second-Best Time Is Now

I ran my last PC "4790k" for 8 years with one GPU upgrade 5700 XT. I built my 2023 build with 64GB of ram and a 4070 TI. I honestly don't think I'll be building a new PC for a long time. Maybe a GPU upgrade down the road.

I'm in a odd PC build schedule, Sony usually releases their next console before I build something new. Many times they end up being more powerful than my current PC at launch. So I just buy that and play console games until PC offers something substantially better for the price. I felt upscaling, frame gen and RT offered something the consoles really couldn't do well.

I think they will catch up next round and there will be a big swing from PC to consoles again because of the prices. Gaming PCs took off in the last 5 years with the younger generation. That's great but now they will be priced out of it. They'll probably go back to console. Many will forget about PC, at least for a little bit since GTA6 will be on console first.
