Oli Johnson shared this📣 This isn't April fools! 📣 So excited to share that Sona has raised $45M in Series B, led by N47 🎉 Total funding now over $100M. Our AI-powered platform helps frontline businesses optimise their largest cost base, drive more revenue and, most importantly, supports the workforce doing the most demanding jobs on the planet. A lot has happened since our Series A. The product has grown from workforce management into a full operational platform. The team has grown. The ambition has grown. And we're just getting started with our US expansion. A big thank you to N47 for leading this round, and to Felicis, Northzone, Gradient, and Italian Founders Fund for their continued support. I couldn't be prouder of the entire Sona team and what we've built together. There's nobody I'd rather be doing this with! Still early days. Lots more to do

We've been building AI workforce management from the ground up, not bolting it on as an afterthought. Seeing that recognised at this level means a lot. Still early days. Lots more to do. #VivaTech #Top100RisingEuropeanStartupsOli Johnson shared thisWe are proud to be named one of VivaTech's Top 100 Rising European Startups for 2026. Oli Johnson shared thisHaving had a front row seat to the development of the Sona AI stack has been an actual career highlight! Incredible to see this out in the wild now. And there is SO MUCH MORE TO COME!!!Oli Johnson shared thisSo excited to finally be able to talk about Sona Agentic! We've been working on components of this for well over 2 years. Sona exists to harness AI, we're backed by Gradient ventures (Googles AI fund) and every part of Sona has been built from day one to be AI native. But we didn't want to shout about it until we really had something tangible we could put in peoples hands. And now we do! What we've built isn't just a chatbot or a handful of specific agents, it's a complete platform for rolling out custom goal seeking agents across not just Scheduling, HR and payroll but your entire stack! You tell us what you want to accomplish, we work with you to create bespoke goal seeking agents using the Sona Agentic framework. NOBODY knows exactly what the future holds for Agentic AI, but I'm so excited to work with our incredible customers to discover how it can make their businesses even better!

Oli Johnson liked thisOli Johnson liked thisWe're delighted to announce that we've been shortlisted for Investor of the Year at the 2026 EducationInvestor Awards. Over recent years, we’ve partnered with some of the UK’s most ambitious, values-led providers in early years education - helping them grow sustainably while staying true to their culture and community roots. Here's a snapshot of what we've been up to: - OurHouse Clubs - we supported the platform’s growth journey and new site openings, culminating in a successful exit to Blackstone at the back end of 2024. - Monkey Puzzle Day Nurseries Ltd - since our 2021 investment, it’s become the UK’s largest nursery franchise, now welcoming over 4,500 children each week across 70+ sites. - Abacus Ark Nursery Schools - since partnering in 2024, we’ve supported Abacus Ark’s mission to bring its distinctive, play-based learning model to more families across South West London. With several new sites underway, momentum is strong, and the team continues to set the bar for quality and care. - Nannie Annies Day Care - we’re backing the next stage of growth with a major new site in North East London and building the operational foundations around an exceptional founder-led team. Congrats to all other nominees and fingers crossed for the ceremony.

Oli Johnson reacted on thisBit of a different one from me today. I spend most of my time thinking about finance leadership within venture-backed tech companies- CFOs, VPs of Finance, the strategic capital allocators who help companies scale. That said, at Harmonic we have also have some pretty amazing search chops within consumer - delivering many of the highest profile UK searches within FMCG and DTC of the past decade, and it was really good fun to ‘lock in’ on our work here with Jason Gibb from Bread & Jam. 20 years of building teams and 16 years as Founder across my two businesses. The B Corp movement and why we need more businesses taking it seriously. And an honest take on where Search and Recruitment firms are going wrong. Give it a listen if any of that resonates. A few shout-outs here to European and USA folks doing great work. Kudos Phil Hails-Smith Amelia Christie-Miller Simmy Dhillon Orr Vinegold Joel Freeman. Plus good to introduce Jason Gibb to the wonder-drink that is Botivo Drinks | B corp 💛Oli Johnson reacted on thisSome say we’ve saved the best episode until last… Our founder, Charlie Walker, joins Jason Gibb for the final episode of Breaking Bread by Bread & Jam, powered by Harmonic Finance™ | Certified B Corp. After a series focused on scaling businesses, it felt only right to close by hearing the story behind our own. In this episode, Charlie opens up on: ▪️ Building and selling a £30m business ▪️ Working with some of the fastest-scaling brands to hire high-performing teams ▪️ Why the “Messiah hire” is a myth We’ve loved partnering with Bread & Jam on this series and it’s been incredible to see the FMCG community come together to explore what it really takes to scale successfully. A big thank you to Jason Gibb for being a great host, Eleonora Colli and the wider Bread & Jam team for an amazing collaboration. 🎧 Listen to Charlie’s episode: 🟢 Spotify: https://lnkd.in/e_sACiBc 🔴 YouTube: https://lnkd.in/eFW9xYwk Big thank you also to Tash & Co. Oli Johnson reacted on thisOli Johnson reacted on thisProud to share that Sona has raised $45M so we can do more for our customers, faster⚡ I've been at Sona for nearly 4 years, building across payroll, HR, scheduling and more. Right now I'm focused on Raffy, our AI agent for workforce management data. The goal is simple: help customers understand what's happening in their operations, whether that data comes from Sona or external systems. We're building Raffy around three core capabilities: 1. Ask Raffy anything about your workforce data “Who's working with me this Saturday night at this location?” “How can I save £300 on next week's rota?” “Build me a dashboard showing labour % vs revenue by venue.” 2. Raffy proactively surfaces what matters Instead of digging through reports, managers get briefings and exception-based insights: where labour was overspent, where teams were understaffed, or which sites need attention first. 3. Raffy will increasingly help you act, not just analyse The long-term vision is an agent helps recommend and take the next best action so operators can stay focused on running great sites. We're building this because we believe the future of workforce management is one where teams spend less time on admin and more time delivering great service. Excited for what comes next 😎

How do you drive value when fundraising? In the absence of a clear guide, many founders and their boards will chart a steady and linear progression in value, supported by revenue or profit growth, starting at the implied valuation of the initial investment and heading towards a target valuation with valuation reference points to validate this approach. In determining the target value it is worth remembering that business values for scaling growing businesses are typically derived by considering three different methodologies - find out more in this article. https://lnkd.in/e4CH-HH7 #fundraising #valuecreation #investments #scaling #businessgrowth

This episode is with Stephen Muers, CEO of Better Society Capital – the UK’s leading social impact-led investor. His path to impact started long before his career, shaped by his upbringing in a Quaker family rooted in values of equality, social conscience, and integrity. Before stepping into the world of impact investing, Stephen spent years in the UK government working on complex policy challenges like prison reform, energy, and child poverty. But no matter how solid the strategies, he saw firsthand how culture often stood in the way of real progress. That realization led him to seek change from a different angle – at Better Society Capital. Originally seeded with £400 million from dormant UK bank accounts (yes, the kind people forgot they had) and £200 million from high street banks, BSC had a bold mission: to grow the entire UK social investment market. Since 2011, it has helped expand that market twelve-fold to over £10 billion, and now they're fueling solutions for everything from homelessness and mental health to affordable housing and social enterprise. 🎧 Tune in as Stephen shares what it really takes to unlock overlooked capital, rethink risk, and build financial systems that work for people, not just portfolios. 👉: https://lnkd.in/eDfkbMf4 #SRI360 #ImpactInvesting #SustainableInvesting #Sustainability #SocialImpact #SocialInvestments #UKMarket #DormantAccounts #StephenMuers #BetterSocietyCapital

Series A is often the moment that defines whether a startup scales or stalls. So what are investors actually looking for at that stage? In this conversation with Stephen Johnson from Mercia Asset Management PLC, we cover why team conviction often outweighs product at Series A, what outsized returns really mean inside a VC portfolio and how it shapes every decision, how to build a credible fundraising narrative by being clear on what must be true, and why moments like AI are creating entirely new windows for founders who can move fast. Which part of the fundraising narrative do you think founders most commonly get wrong? (full episode link in comments) #VentureCapital #SeriesA

💡 Investment Announcement At the Conduit EIS Impact Fund, our 100-Year Life thesis drives us to back ventures that help people healthier, and more fulfilling lives for longer. We are thrilled to announce Conduit Connect's latest investment in Gladys, an AI-powered home care platform on a mission to fix Britain’s broken care system. Founded by George Robinson and Alex Sorisi, Gladys combines smart technology, logistics know-how, and a relentless focus on better outcomes for both families and carers. The platform matches people in need of support with the UK’s best local carers — offering 5-star care at fairer prices, while helping carers earn up to 65% more than traditional agencies. As George Robinson puts it: “We all know that Britain’s care system is broken. Re-arranging deck-chairs on a sinking ship will not cut it. People are dying unnecessarily, and brilliant carers are undervalued and underpaid. Gladys is using this investment to supercharge its technology, and deliver the service that we would want for our loved ones.” Gladys has already supported tens of thousands of hours of independent living across a 20,000 km area. With this new funding — part of a £1.5m Seed round led by Cornerstone VC — Gladys aims to expand nationwide, delivering hundreds of thousands of hours of quality care by 2026. We believe technology can help rebuild trust and dignity in care — creating meaningful, well-paid work and ensuring that people receive the support they deserve long before they get sick. 🚀 We launched (yet) another fundraising accelerator last week! 💰 This particular investment-ready programme supports under-represented founders in London, and is funded with the support of Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan via the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, delivered in partnership with Funding London. 📈 We covered a whole host of topics including types of investors available at different stage, how they think, building FOMO in a fundraise and what best-in-class investor documents look like. 👉 Our mission - to increase the number of funding rounds led by female or ethnic minority founders and have a material impact on the fundraising statistics over the next 12 months.

Welcome to Signals by Siana Capital for the week of 17th November 2025 Everything our team reads, learns, and debates, to share as signals from the outside world 1. 20VC chat with Everett Randle, Partner at Benchmark https://lnkd.in/dhHF7u5h AI companies can generate far higher gross-profit dollars per customer and tap labour-budget TAM rather than software budgets, which is why AI categories are now adding $4-5bn in new ARR per year versus the $1bn SaaS golden-category benchmark. This TAM expansion is breaking old metrics, accelerating category formation, and concentrating value in a handful of winners. As a result, multi-stage megafunds may never return 5x+ net again, but they will produce enormous absolute dollars by anchoring themselves to these outsized, AI-driven category explosions 2. China’s falling CO2 emmissions https://lnkd.in/dKd-qybS China’s CO2 emissions have been flat or falling for the past 18 months, which is the strongest signal yet that its energy transition has crossed a structural inflection point. This stability is happening despite rising electricity demand, because China is adding renewables, storage, and transmission capacity at unprecedented speed. When emissions plateau while infrastructure accelerates, the bottleneck shifts from physical build-out to system intelligence. That’s a signal that AI in forecasting, grid balancing, asset optimisation, and distributed-energy orchestration will become a multi-billion-dollar golden category 3. AI cyber espionage https://lnkd.in/dbMd5U9J A Chinese group used a jailbroken frontier model to autonomously run an end to end cyber espionage operation, handling 80-90% of the workload with only minimal human oversight. The attack moved at machine speed, executing thousands of actions per second, and targeted major tech, financial, industrial, and government systems. This is the first signal that agentic AI is fully capable of performing the work of entire APT teams, collapsing the cost, talent, and time barriers that historically protected nations and enterprises. Cyber offense has been automated, and every institution now operates in a world where scalable, state level attacks can be launched by anyone with access to a frontier model Follow Siana Capital for more weekly Signals from India’s deeptech and frontier infrastructure ecosystem

We are excited to announce the launch of our latest thought-leadership piece: Private equity focus: A new process for CEO succession planning in a new normal. Drawing on data gathered from Heidrick & Struggles surveys conducted in 2024 and 2025 of CEOs and board members around the world, this report explores current approaches to succession planning at PE-backed companies and what these leaders can do to best position their organizations for the future in the current environment. The paper finds that private equity (PE)-backed firms often neglect CEO succession planning despite high CEO turnover and longer hold periods. It calls for PE firms to adopt proactive, strategic, and portfolio-wide succession planning to protect value and ensure leadership continuity. Key findings: · Only 16% of leaders at PE-backed firms view CEO succession as a top priority, compared with 26% globally. · 28% of PE board members consider succession planning only in emergencies. · CEO turnover in PE portfolio companies exceeds 70% during typical hold periods (5.5–6 years). · PE firms show less alignment between succession planning and overall business strategy than public companies. · Open discussions about CEO and board succession occur far less frequently in PE firms. · Responsibility is unclear—boards, investors, and HR leaders often have overlapping or undefined roles. · 45% of PE-backed companies have recently increased investment in succession planning, reflecting rising governance expectations. · The report recommends proactive, centralized, and continuous succession planning integrated into long-term talent strategy.

Great to see the HSBC Innovation Banking Venture Capital Term Sheet Guide 2025 live — packed with insights for anyone building or backing early-stage ventures in the UK. I was pleased to share a founder-focused perspective in the report. Term sheets aren’t just about valuation — they define control, alignment, and long-term potential. The best ones strike a balance: a fair price and terms that set the business up to scale. Big credit to Glen Waters, Christopher Cipirski, and Emily Wood for pulling together such a comprehensive view of the market.
