With a comprehensive background in pharmaceuticals and healthcare, Dr Boger is the founder of Vertex Pharmaceuticals, retiring as their Chief Executive Officer in May 2009, after over 20-years with the company. Following his tenure as CEO, Dr. Boger continued to to serve on the Vertex Board and Cochaired its Science & Technology Committee, stepping off the board in June 2017, after more than 28 years. Dr. Boger developed an international reputation in the application of computer modeling to the chemistry of drug design and was a pioneer in the use of structure-based rational drug design as the basis for drug discovery programs. While at Vertex he began and championed drug discovery and development programs that brought forth one of the first HIV protease inhibitors, later using the same technology approach to develop the first widely-effective cure for hepatitis C infection, a leading cause of liver cancer and liver failure. A two-decade-long program at Vertex aimed at the fatal genetic disease, cystic fibrosis, has lead to oral combination therapies from Vertex that have been key to increasing the average projected lifespan of afflicted patients from 34 years when the program began to over 65 years today. Dr. Boger has served on numerous boards, including the Harvard Medical School Advisory Board, where he is Chair Emeritus, and he served for almost a decade on the advisory board of Harvard’s Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Dr Boger says, "Over the past several years I have watched the team develop mOm from a concept on paper to a fully regulated, life-saving product, medical device now in use across multiple countries. In International Clinical Trials, our CEO Mikesh Udani explores how continuous, passive monitoring is ripe to close this gap. The article highlights how passive, contactless technologies are now clinically validated and operationally ready for global trials, enabling objective nighttime data without burdening patients or sites. This opens opportunities for more sensitive endpoints to detect exacerbations, accurately measure symptom resolution, and monitor patient safety. Nighttime symptoms, sleep-related biomarkers and overnight deterioration are clinically relevant across asthma, COPD, heart failure and neurological conditions but remain difficult to capture with traditional tools. As off August 2026 I commenced my early retirement to enjoy life and make place for the next generation. Starting in 1986 with a team of 14 in total, we took upon us all challeges that came by. Building the first half scale shielded gradientcoil for Philips Netherlands, followed by multiple models of MRI gradient coils, resulting in being a valued supplier towards the MRI industry, never believing we would grow to a company of >100. It has been my privilege to have been working with you all in good times and also in the less good times. Challenges come in different variaties. Together we have always found solutions as a team and this made us all grow. I will be enjoying life with family and friends, never a dull moment. Wishing you all a very nice future and good health, again, thanks for the past years, its been a blast. Rick

The feeling of a life slipping away… 3 months And there hasn’t been a day when I haven’t felt lost. And not hurting. I am trying. The urge to do nothing but sit is overwhelming- grief can be like a suffocation. Yet one has to stand up too - and the love & support from many has helped. Thank you for that to so many x

Building on our TARGET-AI framework (https://lnkd.in/gM2c4Pbf), this work will integrate longitudinal EHR phenotypes with AI-ECG and AI-Echo to determine whom to screen, when to screen, and how to best translate algorithmic signals into a scalable diagnostic pathway for ATTR-CM. More than a million die every single year and many more survive but face lifelong complications, all because of challenges that, in many cases, come down to simple, solvable issues, such as maintain normothermia. For a premature baby, staying within what’s called the thermal neutral zone is critical. It’s the point where they can use their energy to grow, rather than simply trying to stay warm. Small changes really matter. As soon as they become hypothermic, the risks escalate fast. For every 1°C drop in core body temperature, a baby’s mortality increases by around 28%. One of the most effective ways to protect these babies is with incubators but traditional systems , whose design has remained relatively unchanged for decades, are often heavy, not cost effective, impractical for certain situations, and inaccessible for many parts of the world, or in a hospital That’s why we built the mOm Essential. To solve these key challenges and help save more lives. Today, we estimate mOm Incubators have already impacted around 18,000 lives, helping babies in hospitals, such as in the NHS, clinics and conflict zones around the world, stay warm when it matters most. Daniel Green liked thisDaniel Green liked thisWe can predict cancer therapy-related cardiac dysfunction from an ECG taken before treatment starts. In patients starting BRAF/MEK inhibitors for melanoma, adding AI-ECG to the guideline HFA-ICOS risk score significantly improved prediction of moderate/severe cardiotoxicity (C-statistic 0.81 to 0.91, p = 0.030). Small cohort and few events, so it needs replication. But a test performed everywhere, at a very low cost, could help direct cardiac surveillance towards the patients most likely to need it.
