Being invited to join Loughborough University Council is a real full‑circle moment. Loughborough is a university that champions innovation, nurtures and guides entrepreneurial thinking, and sparks ambition. Recently being highlighted as one of the top 10 most entrepreneurial universities. It’s somewhere that will always be very special for me personally, as the place where my own passion for design and engineering was accelerated, and where the idea for mOm Incubators was born.   To be asked to sit on the main University Council Board and help shape the future of an institution that helped shape mine, is something I’m incredibly proud of. In conversation with the NHS: Challenge 2 – Safe transfers In our ongoing conversations with NHS maternity and neonatal teams, another challenge consistently raised is the safety of transfers, both within hospitals and between care areas. Movement is often unavoidable in early neonatal care, yet it remains one of the most vulnerable moments for newborns. Babies may need to be transferred from delivery rooms to transitional care, radiology, or neonatal units. Sometimes urgently and sometimes over distance. Traditional incubators are often too cumbersome to transport infants around a hospital. This can leave teams with limited options when a baby needs thermal protection during such transfers. What have we learnt from our conversations with the NHS? NHS maternity and neonatal services are undergoing a process of major transformation and modernisation, with a core focus on improving safety and quality of early care. This is driving a key question in our conversations with NHS leaders, neonatal and maternity teams: How can mOm Essential incubators make a difference? At mOm, our approach has always been rooted in problem‑solving and user-centred design. We’ve taken a core piece of neonatal equipment, one that has changed very little in decades, and redesigned it for today’s care environments and the realities of modern maternity pathways. Those realities are remarkably consistent across the NHS. Many units are reportedly operating at, or beyond, safe capacity, leaving teams with limited options when multiple babies need support at the same time.
