Year 1 is in the books! 📚 Wrapping up my first year at Aztec from a stadium box for a strategy day is pretty much the perfect metaphor for my experience so far. This year has been a total whirlwind. In the events world, "fast-paced" is an understatement, but I’ve been lucky to have a front-row seat to some of the biggest shows in the most iconic venues. The three things I’ve learned: - The Team Matters: It’s rare to find mentors, guides, and teachers all in one company. - No Half-Measures: In this industry, you can’t shy away. It’s all or nothing, every single “live day.” - Timing is Everything: I’m so grateful to have joined Aztec at this moment. The opportunities have been unmatched. Here’s to many more site visits, late nights, and "how can we go bigger next time?" moments!

System improvements? Rest? Revenue? Creativity? I’m optimistic about AI — but I’m equally aware that how we reinvest reclaimed time will define culture more than the technology itself. The companies that win won’t just automate faster. They’ll elevate human contribution more intentionally. I’m curious what leaders and operators would actually choose.

Did you know that before Jaws came out, there wasn't a widespread fear of sharks? It wasn't until Spielberg popularised the idea of the Great White Killer Shark that anyone apart from seafarers had any fear about them - which far outweighed the actual impact of Shark attacks. There tend to be between 4 -12 fatalities from Shark attacks a year. Things more likely to kill you than a shark include: A Champagne Cork; Jet Ski's; Lawnmowers and Ladders. All of which is to say, I'm really looking forward to chairing this panel Tech Show London next Thursday on whether AI is having its Jaws moment. While there are genuine concerns around AI, it's getting harder and harder to see the signal from the noise. I'll be chatting with Serena Haththotuwa, Archie Cobb and Mark Rodseth about whether 🤖 =🦈 ?

Think hiring is on pause in London agencies? Here’s what we’re actually seeing. While employees often only see advertised roles or internal chatter, recruiters often have a very different perspective. From recent conversations across London agencies, a few patterns stand out: 🔵 Hidden demand: Certain roles — particularly midweight Account Handling, Strategy, Project Management, and BD — are quietly in demand even when teams appear frozen. 🔵 Short-term freezes vs. long-term growth: A team may announce a hiring pause, but talent mapping and succession planning often continue behind the scenes. 🔵 Emerging sectors: Retail, hospitality, and experience-led projects are currently driving much of the growth we see in the market. 📣 VCs! Does your deal flow funnel look a bit..... homogenous? With only 2% of UK VC funding going to all-female teams and less than 0.5% going to black founders - and nearly half of all capital going to companies based in London - we thought we would put together a few suggestions based on recommendations from reports looking at increasing diversity at the top of the funnel. If your top of funnel isn’t diverse, it’s rarely because diverse founders don’t exist. It’s because many quietly self-select out. A few practical ways to widen the funnel: 🗣️ Use inclusive, specific language (clarity beats vague “exceptionalism”) 🚪 Be accessible with clear contact routes, open applications or office hours 📜 Signal commitment (e.g. Investing in Women Code, Diversity VC certification) 👭 Diversify sourcing beyond the usual universities, networks and accelerators 👥 Build balance into teams, panels and visible moments 🧰 Offer support beyond capital at the top of the funnel 📊 Track who enters your funnel and make DEI part of how you operate You don’t need to lower standards — you need to remove unnecessary friction.
