This review simply reinforces my firmly held belief that there should be tiers of reviewers. Ones for Shakespearean type dramas and one for fun movies. Because its obvious the reviewer completely missed the point of this movie.
Firstly; Its a Minecraft movie. A film about a bonkers world where nothing is logical and everything is possible. Secondly, its for kids. Not reviewers who left the childlike side of themselves behind long ago after maybe too much trauma and reality butt kicking in life. And thirdly, it does treat its audience with respect. The Minecraft kids audience who all had a blast in the cinema I watched this in.
Did I enjoy this? Weirdly.. yes. Not totally, but enough to not make me want to commit Madame Web levels of seppuku halfway through.
It absolutely isn't an Oscar contender, but then again, it never tries to be. And it did have moments that had me cracking up. And a large part of those moments came from the energy of the kids in the cinema pulling me along and helping me enjoy it.
And that's fine because this movie was never aimed at me. To put this in real world parlance, I'm the third wheel of the viewing audience and not really relevant to this movie if I stay or leave.
The simple fact is this was the wrong person to have review this movie. Maybe next time she should send her kids to watch and do the review. I'm sure they'd get it.
