Seems like less of an Episode 4 problem, and more of a prequel trilogy one. Unless GL somehow was able to ignore canon events of a movie 25 years before he filmed it.
Well the good news is, is that this never happened in the games. Only in books written about the games that were interpretations of events. But not actual. So people who don’t want the hero of time to have a good ending can choose to believe this. And others that want to follow what is in the game can enjoy his successes in OOT (despite losing his fairy), and then his final acceptance of the loss in MM.
Him removing his helmet also undoes his season 3 story arc, but whatever. Book of Boba Fett also undid the Mando Season 2 arc. Disney is going to Disney.
I hope 60 year-old Grogu starts to speak soon. Even Baby Groot had to grow up at some point.
RotJ was all about Luke fixing his failures from ESB. He's failed time again, and learned from them, and saved the galaxy from the Emperor (until the sequels took that from him). If a youngish Luke was able to accept his failures and save his father from the dark side, surely, and older and wiser Luke could have found a way to try and save his nephew from the same fate.
Hamill was right about the complete character assignation the sequels did to Luke's character. If anything the OT showed, Luke was always a proactive hero (once Obi-Wan kicked him into gear), to the point he had to be told to dial it back by Obi Wan and Yoda. Even if Luke had made a mistake while training his nephew, he should have been chasing him around the galaxy to make it right, similar to what he did in RotJ.
Palpatine using Dooku as a red herring to through off the Jedi until Anakin was ready to be corrupted was such a brilliant move.
But in regards to Dooku's comments to Obi-Wan at the end of AotC makes it almost seem like Dooku thinks he's acting as a double agent to get close to the Sith, presenting himself as a hero, in order to take him out (although he's clearly operating in his own self-interests). Kind of a tragic irony that he told Obi-Wan the truth about there being a Sith plotting to destroy the Jedi and republic. If Obi-Wan had believed him, the war may have gone differently.
It has become very fashionable to cast the Jedi as anything other than heroes in recent fiction, or to point out their flaws, or to portray them as villains. This may be part of the reason Star Wars has been failing for the past few years.
Star Wars isn’t science fiction. It isn’t supposed to hold a mirror up to society and make you think. Star Wars is space fantasy. Escapism. There are real heroes and villains and it is easy to tell the difference. The Jedi were always portrayed as the heroes, and to call them anything else is essentially telling fans of the Jedi that they have been wrong to idolize them.
The Jedi take kids away from their parents because force sensitive kids are essentially born weapons. Weapons that need to be properly trained and equipped to control their emotions so they don’t do something evil.
It's a shame that none of this split timeline stuff is mentioned or seen in any game. Nor is Link's time travel adventures causing some sort of tragic, mental crisis. At the end of OOT, Ganon is sealed in a void beyond time and space. There's no reset button for him. No time travel back. Time clearly progresses in both the present and past while Link is using the pedestal in the temple of time to travel. Just because young Zelda is back to doing what she was doing when they first met, doesn't mean there was a complete reset.
Also, Link doesn't just disappear from a timeline, he is sent back explicitly by the person (assuming she stayed behind) who would become the next leader of that version of Hyrule. So there would be no reason to believe this would cause a problem, or missing Link, becasue she would know exactly what happened to him. Creating no mystery.
Also, assuming Zelda sent herself back using the ocarina (because how else would it be available for Link to use in MM?), she likely reset her timeline back to a certain point after Link's final return after defeating Ganon (similar to how in MM, Link resets the timeline back to the point after he got the ocarina back from the skull kid, meaning the adult timeline is completely erased too.
lol. One of the rare times I agree. Ditch the branching timeline, which never made sense any way, and go for a simpler, more game-accurate one. Use the clues the actual Zelda devs have left in the games, as opposed to what Nintendo's PR/marketing department have concocted.
I do agree that seeing the same fight with Ganon over and over again in the Sages' memories, I didn't feel the story was particularly lacking anywhere else. Would I have liked to have seen more of Hyrule of old, sure, but not seeing it didn't make me not appreciate Zelda's sacrifices and Link's efforts in the story.
I don't understand why someone thinks Link doesn't speak. He speaks to everyone he encounters in the game. We just don't see his side of the conversation, because we, the players are Link. He knows what we know, so our inner monologue we think of when Link has an in-game conversation is what he says. I don't think any game developer can write anything better than what a player is feeling when they experience the game.
If the timeline is confusing, maybe try using a different one.
Playing RPGs is a very different experience than playing a Zelda game; any Zelda game. Zelda games aren't RPGs, they have always been action/adventure. BotW is an action adventure game starring an amnesiac who is trying to save a princess and her kingdom while solving a mystery. It is supposed to feel like a lonely, solitary journey through a desolate (yet beautiful) world. I like RPGs, but the last thing I would want while exploring the far corners of Hyrule is to have some annoying companion chirping in my ear asking me why I'm climbing a mountain, or crossing a river when Impa wants us to find the memories.
What is this article even about? It makes some pretty definitive claims about there being an end to an era of Zelda games only to immediately follow with admissions that nobody knows the future of the amZelda franchise.
The Lost World was perfectly fine until the San Diego portion of the movie jumped the shark/nuked the fridge. I will say, the ham-fisted way Spielberg tried to force another kid in the franchise, (and giving her a hero moment) derailed the film a bit.
Well, then she would have failed too. Just like Luke did in ESB. He fell right into Vader's trap, and lost his hand, and almost a lot more for doing it. If he hadn’t have come, Vader would have had no reason to put Han Solo in carbonite either, which may have limited his friends’ chance to escape.
That’s the risk Nintendo takes when trying something new. After Skyward Sword’s Zelda (and the other Zelda’s chronologically after her) became the living goddess Hylia who can now wield the full triforce, they are the ones who must prove their worth. Link can use the sword by virtue of Zelda proclaiming him as her chosen knight.
But, it should be pointed out, that a de-powered master sword is not a new concept in the series. And Link’s ability to win with any weapon speaks more to his character and abilities in the game (as well as coincidentally being a part of BotW’s game mechanics).
If Link dies and Zelda saves the kingdom without him, it breaks the whole point of the game series. It’s akin to a Gotham City where the police department can arrest the Joker without help from Batman. It makes the “hero” a nuisance. That’s why it will never happen. They need to work together.
Thats why the “fallen timeline” is worthless fan fiction. It absolutely makes no sense. Because the connective tissue for the end of OOT where Link dies, and the next game would require that somehow a Ganondorf with a full triforce would somehow have to be defeated and lose it again without the hero.
I doubt we’ll get any more backstory on Demise, beyond what was provided during his curse in Skyward Sword. Ganondorf had supplanted him as demon king in TotK, and Zelda is now the human form of Hylia, able to wield the entire triforce, and Link is her chosen champion, no longer having to prove his strength, wisdom, and courage to world the master sword.

Other Than Easter Eggs, Nintendo Should Forget About The Legend Of Zelda Timeline Once And For All
