Foundation has exploded in popularity thanks to the advent of the Apple TV+ series and has managed to garner three critically acclaimed seasons, with a fourth on the way. This level of popularity will undoubtedly push new fans to discover existing and upcoming Foundation-related media, including, naturally, the original novels, as well as video games. Luckily, fans are being treated to a brand-new Foundation project releasing soon.

This new release should help keep fans entertained while they wait patiently for new details surrounding the upcoming Foundation season 4. It aims to adapt the huge scale, political tensions, epic battles, and character drama of the show (and books) into a massive new experience that features an original story. It's a huge win for long-term fans and a great new release for those who've just started getting into Isaac Asimov's expansive universe.

Among the upcoming Foundation projects is a new video game that, as aforementioned, aims to offer the incredible sci-fi spectacle of the show and books in an even more immersive package. Foundation has always felt like a story that could be adapted into a Mass Effect-esque RPG or even a CRPG akin to Rogue Trader, so it isn't particularly surprising to see a developer attempt to gameify its universe, characters, and story.

While Galactic Frontier isn't quite the Mass Effect-esque RPG some may have hoped for, it is a huge title that blends RTS elements with base building, hero collecting, and isometric combat. In Foundation: Galactic Frontier, players assume the role of a brand-new character as they attempt to navigate the complex machinations of a galaxy in turmoil. There's a central story to work through, iconic characters to meet, collect, and level up, a spaceship to build with numerous cabin types that help contribute to your journey, missions to embark upon, and RTS battles in space.

Galactic Frontier is coming to Steam soon, although a specific date hasn't been announced yet by developer FunPlus International AG. It is a port of the mobile game of the same name, which is beneficial for those who are just hearing about it for the first time, as it means they'll get access to all the new content coming to Galactic Frontier this year, including the new season. It is a completely free-to-play game that, naturally, features microtransactions, although much of its content can be experienced without spending any money.

One can hope that should Galactic Frontier prove a success on Steam and the show continue to rise in popularity on Apple TV+, that a fully-fledged RPG like Mass Effect will eventually be made. Foundation's universe is so fascinating, complex, and nuanced in a way that makes for both compelling TV and narrative-focused gaming. Of course, for now, fans will at least have Foundation: Galactic Frontier to enjoy, all the aforementioned previously released content to go with it, and the many future updates heading its way before season 4 of the show is eventually released.
