When looking for a build to take on Omega Planetes in Monster Hunter Wilds, you have some questions about what works best for the fight. With the wide variety of builds and weapons, it can be hard to choose what to bring into the fight. Here, we will break down the best Great Sword build to use to fight Omega in this epic collaboration event, and why it is one of the best builds to go with.
Weapons to Bring
First, you’ll need to gather the correct weapons for Omega’s hunt.
There are a few viable weapons for this fight in particular, and there isn’t a wrong choice about what to bring. But you will want to bring two Great Swords that deal different elemental damage, as later on in the fight, you’ll be facing a Nerscylla Clone. This clone needs to be taken down as soon as possible so that your party can survive the incoming Delta Attack. So you’ll need a main weapon for Omega that deals either Thunder damage or one that can utilize the Paralyze status. You will need a Fire-element weapon to take down the Nerscylla Clone quickly. Both enemies can be paralyzed, so this is a viable option throughout the fight if you wish to only wield one Great Sword.

These two crafted weapons are some of the best ones available for the task at hand during the Omega Planetes hunt. However, there are some alternatives if you want something with more options with jewel slots. For this, you would end up creating an Artian weapon, the Great Sword named Varianza. Here, you can craft a single Paralyze sword or craft two with a Thunder and a Fire element on them.
The jewel slots would be very similar to the monster weapons as well. You want to prioritize having max focus to charge your attacks quickly to get to the final charge state as soon as possible, as well as have your main Great Sword have a Shield Jewel on it. The shield jewel is important as this allows you to block and survive Omega’s laser beam attack, which is used from Phase 2 and well into the later stages of the fight.
What is nice about both of these weapons is that they work great in both the Rank 8 and Savage versions of this fight. You can still tank the majority of the hits that Omega throws out, and provide solid DPS if your party already has a tank. With both of these weapons, you’ll become an off-tank that is there to protect someone from a stray laser beam that they didn’t expect, or you can be the main tank to keep Omega’s abuse from reaching the rest of the party.
Armor to Use
You will need to acquire some of the best defensive gear available.
If you are just starting against Omega’s Rank 8 fight, you want to consider a few different armor sets and combinations. For the fight when you don’t have the Bale armor set, you should use the Guardian Arkveld B set or the Regios B set. The reason you’ll want to use these, in particular for Rank 8, is that they will provide high defense, while still providing some resistance to fire. Their equipment skills are quite different, so it is always up to what works best for your style of play.
For the Savage fight, you will need some armor that will bolster some high defense, which allows you to fill that role that isn’t guaranteed when you are entering random groups. Thankfully, the Bale set from this collaboration that you can craft from the Rank 8 fight is perfect for this build in particular. For the entire set bonus, you will need 4 of the 5 pieces of gear, allowing you to use some gear for your legs that will bolster the build a little further.

Armor Decorations
Omega’s Rank 8 fight is far more straightforward to manage, but for the Savage version, you will need to increase your stats as much as possible. Meaning you will need to upgrade your gear to level 10 to survive this deadly encounter. What both the Rank 8 and Savage fights have in common for this build, in particular, is that the two things you absolutely want will be max defense and divine protection. When using the Bale set, you will have fewer armor decoration slots in general, but the skills and abilities the armor provides make up for this completely.

This combination of armor decorations may seem odd for this set, as it does not add any additional skills to the set. However, these will add a ton of defense that is necessary for the fight, as well as some quality of life with healing. Your talisman to take should be any of the random ones that can drop from Glowing Stones that are rewarded in Rank 9 hunts. But the important thing is to obtain one that provides Defense Boost with some other skills that bolster your armor. For this build example, a talisman with Level 3 Defense Boost and a Level 2 Fire Resistance skill, which makes it almost perfect for the Savage encounter for Omega.
Use The Blackest Night
This is an incredible ability that should be used often to help you tank even more damage.
One thing the combination of this entire build allows you to do is use the upgraded Great Sword charged attacks, which will add an extra tick of damage to each charged swing. But more importantly, it will allow you to use The Blackest Night ability on your hotbar. This is a temporary shield that you can cast to be even more aggressive. When the shield is destroyed, your health will drop to 1, but your recovery health will be full. You will gain a healing effect on your hits, increased defense, and perform a counterattack when the shield breaks.
This build allows you to take on a high-risk, high-reward style of play, and you’ll need some items to help get you back to full health. Using the Immunizer will allow you to recover health even faster when using The Blackest Night, while also combining it with the Adamant and Might Seeds. Using the Adamant Seed will bolster your defense even further, while the Might Seed will provide you with even more damage. The combination is amazing against everything in the game, not just Omega, so this can be a viable build in almost every hunt you encounter.
The unbridled force of nature runs wild and relentless, with environments transforming drastically from one moment to the next. This is a story of monsters and humans and their struggles to live in harmony in a world of duality.
Fulfill your duty as a Hunter by tracking and defeating powerful monsters and forging strong new weapons and armor from the materials you harvest from your hunt as you uncover the connection between the people of the Forbidden Lands and the locales they inhabit.
The ultimate hunting experience awaits you in Monster Hunter Wilds.
