The Godbugs in Monster Hunter Wilds are long-lasting endemic creatures that live on this world for 1,000 years, as reported by the game's Monster Field Guide. If you're able to find one and catch it, you'll get its 
Godbug Essence, which can be used to make Cleanser and Lifepowder that can help you in battle.
Where to Find Godbugs in Windward Plains
One of the best places to find Godbugs in the Windward Plains (which also has Herbivore Shells) is the valley between Areas 16 and 17. You'll find them on the stone walls of the valley attached to the sides. The first is west of the 16 text on the location's map, near a Wedge Beetle and a Blackened Fossil.
The second is to the right of the entrance of the valley. The next is opposite the green emblems on the map that are the Vigormantle Bugs and Herb. These are easy to spot. They have grey shells with black antennas and purple facial features. You can either grab the Godbug for its Godbug Essence with the Circle/B button or take it with the Capture Net.
You can capture a Godbug by equipping a Capture Net. On the bottom right of the screen, you'll see a small menu. Hold the left shoulder button and scroll through the items with either the square/X or circle/B buttons. Once you've selected the Capture Net, press the square/X button to equip it.
Where to Find Godbugs in Scarlet Forest
The perfect spot to find Godbugs in Scarlet Forest is in Area 16. You can reach this spot by fast traveling to the Area 17 campsite and then leaping off a big gap near a narrow alleyway section.
Look at the tree stumps in the area. One is east of some Dung (which can be used to make a useful Dung Pod) and nearby the Weathered Ruins that are south of it. Opposite this spot, up a rocky hill, you'll see another Godbug with its blue exterior on some vines.
Look to the right and another Godbug is there on the opposite vine. Go up the first climbing wall from this spot and then look right. You'll see another Godbug on a tree near a vine bridge that goes up. The last Godbug in this specific section is on the right after going up the bridge. You'll see the Godbug crawling on a stone wall near the waterfall.
You can also find Dapperwings in the Scarlet Forest that will help you during a side quest. Other handy creatures you can find in Monster Hunter Wilds include the Ember Rufflizards.
