Speak with Animals can only be used by the following classes / subclasses:

  • Bard
  • Cleric (Nature Domain)
  • Druid
  • Paladin (Oath of the Ancients)
  • Barbarian (Wildheart)
  • Ranger

You can also learn this Spell by selecting the following Feats:

  • Magic Initiate: Bard
  • Magic Initiate: Druid
  • Ritual Caster

Players that choose Forest Gnomes can choose this cantrip as part of their racial choices when creating their character.

Additional information about Speak with Animals

Selecting the Eldritch Invocation Beast Speech as a Warlock allows you to cast this spell on yourself without expending spell slots.

Using a Potion of Animal Speaking will grant the same effect.
