Shadow is a mission in Grand Theft Auto IV, given to Niko Bellic by Jamaican gangster "Little" Jacob Hughes from his apartment in Schottler, Broker, Liberty City.

Description

As Niko enters Little Jacob's apartment, he gets a surprise introduction from Badman by being pinned down, and threatened with a box cutter. Jacob assures Badman that Niko is friendly, so he helps Niko up off the floor and takes him to Jacob. Jacob is lying on the couch, watching what appears to be scrambled porn on the TV with Tuff Gong Radio playing over it. He explains that there are drug dealers in their turf and they are not getting any profits from them. Badman wants Niko to head to Wallkill Avenue in Fortside and follow a dealer to the supplier.

Niko drives to the dealer's location and follows the dealer back to the supplier's apartment. Once Niko arrives at the apartment he fights his way inside and kills the dealer along with his two suppliers. Niko contacts Jacob once the dealer has been killed to notify him.

Objectives

Go to find the dealer in South Bohan.
Follow the dealer to his supplier on foot. Stay behind him and try not to be seen.
You spooked the dealer. Keep following him to the supplier. (If he is spotted.)
The dealer is in the apartment block. Follow or chase, but don't attack him.
Damage the lock to break open the door. (If he is spotted.)
Take down the dealer and his suppliers.

Niko enters Little Jacob's Apartment and is immediately pinned down by Real Badman, who threatens him with a boxcutter.

Niko:

Hey! Ah!

Real Badman:

Hey boy, don't move, don't move.

Niko:

What the fuck, are you kidding me?

Real Badman:

Me say don't move boy. Who are you? Where ya come from? Who are you?

Niko:

Hey, man, I'm here to see Jacob. It's Niko.

Real Badman:

Niko?

Little Jacob:

Badman, what gwa'an down there so?

Real Badman:

Some boy down here, sir, beat up the door. Some boy dere, sir, call himself Niko, say he wan' see ya, rude boy.

Little Jacob:

Niko? Ah me boy that, Badman. Yo, free up the boy, man. Yo.

Real Badman:

Your boy dat?

Little Jacob:

Yeah.

Real Badman now helps Niko to his feet and leads him upstairs.

Real Badman:

Cho! Come, my youth.

Little Jacob:

Me boy dat, yo.

Real Badman:

Come upstairs to talk wit' Mr. Jacob and ting, man.

Little Jacob:

Ah him de one work wit' Roman, de one dat control the taxi...

Real Badman and Niko enter the upstairs room.

Real Badman:

Ya know, when ya have people dat knock upon people door an' ting, ya have fe careful an' ting.

Niko:

No, it's okay.

Real Badman:

Yah man. See what me tell?

Niko:

Don't worry about it.

Real Badman:

Ya have to watch out dere, ya know. See, ya boy over dere, sir. Niko, go deal wit' dem, see him dere.

Little Jacob:

Wha' happen, Niko? Ya alright?

Niko:

Hey, no problem. As good an introduction as any other.

Little Jacob:

Yeah, me hear that, ya know? Anyway... some boy around ya boy Badman, ya know. Him want ask ya a favor. (to Real Badman) Gwa'an, nuh?

Real Badman:

Hey, my youth. Some boy dem, dey pon de corner an' ting, an... de boy dem sell some tings and ting, an... I gwa'an, an' I say... oh, dem nah wan' gimme my money an ting. An'... every corner my corner an... I want my money an' ting, ya know? Ah no see dat! Go, go, ya know, me wan' deal with de case proper. Yah nah see it?

Niko quizzacly looks at Jacob.

Little Jacob:

Alright, let me explain. Is a business ting a gwa'an down dere.

Niko:

Right.

Little Jacob:

Dey ah sellin' weed where dey not suppose to sell weed, an' dey nah cutting him in.

Niko:

Okay.

Little Jacob:

So wan' ya go down dere and deal wit dem. Seen?

Niko:

Right. It's not gonna be cheap. Where do I find them?

Real Badman:

Cheap? Cheap, my youth? Ya worry bout cheap? We nah worry bout cheap, ya know! De boy dem dere pon de corner! Me say de boi dem a got tings, and uh, on my corner dey a done ting and... Me say every corner my corner, tell ya me now right after de boy! Dem a gwa'an an say "Oh! Dem nah wan' gimme my money." Oh! Say fe gwa'an wit' dat!

Niko looks at Jacob again.

Little Jacob:

Alright, hear me now. What Badman is saying is... de boy dem a some novice, seen? Ya find dem when ya go pon de corner of Alpha and South Bohan. Seen? When ya go down dere so, yuh see an... tsk! An' just deal wit' dem, seen? Ah go find and turn in work, alright?

Niko:

Alright.

Little Jacob:

Alright. Ya want some of dat spliff here?

Niko:

No thanks.

Little Jacob:

Ya sure?

Niko:

I'm sure.

Little Jacob:

Alright. Respect.

Niko leaves.

Real Badman:

My youth. Pass me some of dat ting ya have over dereso.

Little Jacob:

Alright, here hold that, king.

Niko goes to South Bohan, where he finds a dealer dealing drugs.

Dealer:

That's some good shit. You done cleaned me out.

The dealer calls someone on his phone.

Dealer:

Yo! I'm all out of product. Dropping in to pick some up. Be ready.

Niko follows the dealer.

As Niko follows the dealer, Niko gets a call from Roman.

Roman: Niko, it's your cousin. You want to shoot some pool?

Niko: This isn't a good time, Roman. I got another type of shooting on my mind.

None of these lines have subtitles.

Each group of lines is spoken at random. If Niko spooks the dealer early enough, he won't get a phone call from Roman.

Dealer: Don't get so close to a brother.

Dealer: Yo, back off me, bitch.

Niko: Fuck! Here we go.

Niko: Oh, okay. Well, it's a good thing I didn't have none of that spliff.

Dealer: I got friends, bitch!

Dealer: Yo get off a brother's back!

As the dealer gets to the end of one alley, he pushes a shipping pallet off from against a wall.

Dealer: Have these!

Dealer: Should have recycled this shit!

Niko: You're going to need more than that to protect yourself!

Dealer: I know cats you don't wanna fuck with!

Dealer: I'm just tryin' to put food in my baby's mouth!

Dealer: Yo, you don't want to be messing with my boys!

While chasing the Dealer through the apartment building, the dealer pushes a woman down the stairs.

Dealer: Bounce, bitch!

Dealer: Wrong place, wrong time!

If Niko notices her...

Niko: Ugh, tough luck, lady.

Niko: You didn't have to do that, shithead.

Other comments from the Dealer as he's chased through the building.

Dealer: All type of shit about to happen to you.

Dealer: Step off me, punk!

Dealer: The pain train's gonna get you, bitch!

Dealer: This fight ain't gonna go your way!

Dealer: You're gonna get punished, son!

Niko is close enough that the dealer can hear the phone call, he runs away.

Roman: Niko, it's your cousin. You want to shoot some pool?

Niko: Shit Roman, I can't talk now. Damn.

Lines continue as if Niko got too close.

Niko finds the door to the apartment unlocked, so he opens the door.

Supplier: Who this cracker? You let him follow you back here?

Dealer: I didn't see nobody. Get rid of this fool.

Upon reaching the supplier's apartment, Niko finds the door locked.

Dealer: You best not be coming in here!

Niko shoots the doorknob.

Supplier: Shit! He's coming in! You done got us killed!

Niko: Scumbags.

Niko Bellic kills the dealer and suppliers.

Niko calls Jacob.

Niko:

Tell Badman that I got rid of the competition.

Little Jacob:

Righteous. De corner belong to I again. Ain't nobody goin' to fuck with I's corner no more, no tings. One love, Niko.

Niko calls Jacob.

Niko: I took the dealer down. With these injuries, he won't be shifting no weight anytime soon.

Little Jacob: One? It be a whole operation, Dere be a lot of dem pon da street, killing one ain't nuttin man. Wha'gwan? Come check I soon Niko.

Niko calls Jacob.

Niko: I only found one dealer. He's dead.

Little Jacob: One? It be a whole operation, Dere be a lot of dem pon da street, killing one ain't nuttin man. Wha'gwan? Come check I soon Niko.

Niko calls Jacob.

Niko: I lost him.

Little Jacob: Ya lose him? How da blood clat ya can lose him? Pon da corner? How ya can lose him pon da corner? Badman ah get vex! Yo, come ah the apartment man. Yo, lose him pon da corner? Cha!

Aftermath

The mission Russian Revolution is unlocked, following the completion of The Master and the Molotov.
Niko can now go on friend activities with Jacob. He can also deliver packages for his drug operations by selecting the Job option on his phone.
Niko can encounter Badman again following this mission during his unique random encounter.
The Yardies become friendly with Niko and will help him if he gets into a fight with a pedestrian. The Jamaicans will also no longer respond with hostility if Niko attacks them.

Trivia

Roman Bellic will call during this mission asking if Niko wants to play pool with him, but Niko says that this is not the best time since he's following the dealer. The call serves no purpose other than as an ironic joke, similar to Little Jacob's calls in Have a Heart and I'll Take Her, Brucie's call in Undress to Kill and Dining Out and Roman's other call in Rigged to Blow. The call will spook the dealer if the player answers the phone and is too close to him, rejecting the call will not spook the dealer.
When the player arrives at the dealer's location, their vehicle will be parked facing the other way during the cutscene.
