1 Genesis GV60

Our list of cars under $55k begins with a great EV: the Genesis GV60. This model takes everything the brand is known for - luxury, comfort, and performance at a reasonable price - and wraps it up with an electric powertrain. The GV60 starts at $52,525 for the RWD trim, which is the only trim that fits inside this list's price range. This version gets a single motor on the rear axle that makes 225 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. It can charge from 10% to 80% in about 18 minutes. We enjoyed its interior and comfort features as much as its performance on the road.

"Playing around with the Drive Mode button dramatically changes the GV60's personality. Eco Mode dials back power in the name of efficiency, making the Performance model feel more like the rear-drive Standard trim. Comfort Mode is the default, enabling more eager acceleration. Sport Mode firms up the adaptive suspension, tightens the steering, and tunes the throttle to require less input for quick bursts of power."

2 Volvo XC60

For those who want a midsize SUV with a gas engine, rather than the EV we just talked about, the Volvo XC60 is a great option. It's just as big and luxurious inside, but touts simplified, more angular styling. Volvo ensures its occupant's comfort with a variety of standard features, like a panoramic roof, wireless phone charging, and more. The XC60 is also a bit cheaper than the electric Genesis, with a base price of $49,700 before destination. It's powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 mild hybrid that makes 247 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque, which is good for a 6.5-second 0-60 mph sprint.

3 Acura Integra Type S

SUVs are all the rage these days, but sometimes we just want a classic four-door sedan to carry ourselves around in. A fun and stylish way to do so is in the Acura Integra Type S. There are a few trims of the Integra to choose from, but the Type S is our favorite. It's the most powerful, having front-wheel drive with the same engine as the Civic Type R. That's a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 that makes 320 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, which can launch this Integra to 60 mph in about 5.1 seconds. We like it more than the Civic, too, since this model looks better, and the interior is more premium for a base price of $53,400.

4 Volvo V60 Cross Country

While there are only a few months left to put an order in before this wagon is gone for good, the most unique and luxurious way to spend a $55k budget is on the Volvo V60 Cross Country. Sure, you could be like everybody else and buy an SUV, sedan, hatchback, etc., but consider driving around in a wagon that looks great, can carry more cargo in the rear than a sedan, has relatively tall ground clearance, and all the comfort you could need at this price point. The V60 CC starts at $52,400 before destination, and gets power from the same 2.0L turbo I4 mild hybrid as the XC60 we talked about above. AWD is standard for an added sense of safety and adventure.

In this case, the Cross Country's ride is lovely for heading into town or swanning about in the countryside. There's never harshness, and big bumps have the edge taken off before they're transmitted into the chassis."

5 Acura MDX

The Acura MDX is a large family SUV with three rows that can seat up to seven people, no matter which trim you choose. However, for those with smaller groups to haul, second-row captain's chairs are also available that reduce the seating capacity to six. There are six trims to choose from, but only the base model fits into our price range. It starts at $51,800 with front-wheel drive; all-wheel drive is optional, and bumps the price up to $54,000. Under the hood is the same 3.5-liter naturally-aspirated V6 as the Honda Pilot. We like the Acura more, though, for its styling and overall comfort inside.

6 Lexus RX

For smaller families who still prefer an SUV, but don't need three rows of seating, the Lexus RX makes for a premium option. There aren't any cars under 45k in this lineup. The cheapest way to get into an RX is 350 trim, which starts at $49,725 before destination. One of the greatest parts about this model, though, is that buyers can get a hybrid powertrain and still remain within our budget. The 350h starts at $52,025, and comes with a 2.5-liiter inline-4 hybrid setup that makes a combined 246 horsepower. It also comes with great standard features, like heated front seats, multi-zone climate control, a 12-speaker sound system, and more.

7 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedan

If you're looking for the luxury and refinement of a Mercedes-Benz, but have to stay within a budget of under $55k, the C-Class sedan might just be the way to go. For the best cars under 45k, we would consider looking for a used model; the least expensive new C-Class is the C 300, which starts at $49,650 before destination. It comes with a 2.0L turbo I4 mild hybrid that sends 255 horsepower to the rear wheels. Additionally, buyers can upgrade to the C 300 4Matic for $51,650. It has the same powertrain, but feels slightly faster with better traction.

8 Genesis G70

The Genesis G70 is another luxurious sedan that we feel is worth considering at this price point. It's a direct rival to the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the BMW 3 Series. This luxury compact sedan is great, since it offers all the luxury features one would expect, like heated leather seats, heated steering wheel, ventilated seats in some trims and more. However, it does so at a wider and lower price range than the C-Class. The G70 starts at $43,450 for the 2.5T RWD. The same engine with AWD bumps up to $45,550, and buyers can get a 3.3-liter turbo V6 with RWD for as low as $53,600.

9 Audi S3 Sedan

The Audi S3 rounds off our list of the best cars under 55k with a BuzzScore of 8.4 out of 10. We feel it earns a place here, since it's a well-rounded middle ground between the more powerful RS-line models and the basic A-line models. The S3 has plenty of amenities, like standard adaptive cruise assist with lane guidance, for example. What makes it especially good for its price point is under the hood, though. This Audi is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo inline-4 that makes 328 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque for a 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds. Buyers can get all this and more for a starting price of $52,000 before destination.

"The result is a nice and smooth application of power when cruising, then a good, hard push of acceleration when leaning on the throttle. The Audi S3 is quick off the line, but it's also quick to get up to speed to overtake or push out of a corner with quick, clean, sudden shifts in Dynamic mode. 10 Cadillac CT4-V

Cadillac might be known for its heritage of luxury and premium models, but it's one brand that never let us down with its sports cars. The V-series cars, like this CT4-V, remain some of the best ways to spend your money. They offer all the creature comforts one could expect from a Cadillac, but throw in a more powerful engine, suspension tunes, and more on top. This model has a 2.7-liter turbo inline-4 that makes 325 horsepower and 3380 lb-ft of torque. It can sprint to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 156 mph. The CT4-V starts at $50,600.
