Peat in Graveyard Keeper is used to make flowerbeds in the cemetery, raising its reputation and pleasing the Bishop enough to unlock more of the game. It's also possible to use Peat to make fertilizer, in order to improve farming in Graveyard Keeper. While Peat can be bought from one of the farmers in the north of the village at a fairly low price, players can eventually produce it themselves via composting farming waste.

Graveyard Keeper: Tips For Beginners

Graveyard Keeper is a farming sim with a macabre twist. For players just starting out, here are a few key tips.

Where To Buy Peat In Graveyard Keeper

Peat can be bought in Graveyard Keeper from one of the farmers in the north of the village. He is called Shepherd and can be found on the northeast side of the dairy farm. He has an eyepatch and is just to the left of the carpenter, where Repair Kits can be bought.

He sells Peat for just 2 Bronze coins, and has a stock of 30 at a time. This is a reasonable price, and unlike many other items, the price doesn't increase with each purchase.

Shepherd also sells Crop Waste, which is used to make Peat, and players can sell their own Crop Waste to him, although only for 1 Bronze coin each.

How To Make Peat In Graveyard Keeper

Graveyard Keeper - Compost Heap

Of course, it's much more cost-efficient to make your own Peat in Graveyard Keeper. However, to do so, players will first need to begin farming by acquiring the garden land from the tavern landlord.

Making Crop Waste From Farming

Graveyard Keeper - Plant

Seeds can be bought from the farmer in the south of the village, and for the purpose of Peat, any seeds will do, so get the cheapest, which are Beet seeds. Growing carrots is another good option, as players will soon need to pay the donkey with carrots for corpse deliveries.

Build Empty Garden Beds in the fields and then dig them and plant the seeds. There's no need to water the crops; just wait a few days until they can be picked. Upon doing so, players will not only get Beets and more seeds, but also Crop Waste.

You will need 8 Crop Waste to proceed, so consider planting more seeds to begin with or going through a few farming cycles.

Build A Compost Heap & Put Crop Waste In

Graveyard Keeper - Compost Heap Crop Waste

In the farming tech tree, players will need to unlock Decay for 10 green points. This will then enable them to build a Compost Heap in the garden for 10 Wooden Sticks. It also needs to be dug, so make sure you have good food recipes for energy.

When the Compost Heap is ready, players can craft at it and put in 8 Crop Waste at a time. The process will take a while, similar to cooking, so leave it and go dig some more graves in the meantime.

After around a day, you can go and collect 6 Peat and 2 Maggots.
