In Gothic 1 Remake, one of the major stats is Mana, which is the magical energy needed to cast spells. Having more Mana means you can cast more powerful spells, since as you advance through the Circles, more powerful spells require a lot of this resource.

The problem is, the game doesn't exactly explain to you how to obtain Mana. From the moment players complete their introductory training to spell casting and become Novices (the level prior to acquiring any Magic Circle), they will have a very low mana pool, and leveling up only increases HP. This guide will explain to players how they can increase their Mana.

How To Increase Maximum Mana in Gothic 1 Remake

Mana level in Gothic 1 Remake

To Increase Maximum Mana and cast more advanced spells in Gothic 1 Remake, players have various options, which include equipping amulets, rings, drinking special potions, or spending LP in Mind Training.

Let's start with the latest, since training is the most consistent way to increase Mana in the game. Spending 1 LP increases 1 Point in the Mana Pool. Players can also use 5 LP at the same time to increase the Mana reserves by 5 points, the same as any other major stat.

Mana doesn't increase Spell Power. The power of a spell is indicated in their Scroll and Rune, and some spells like Lightning Ball or Fireball have charge levels and consume more mana with each charge.

Corristo will help you increase your Mana and Magic Circles in Gothic 1 Remake

To increase your Mana with this method, you can consult one of the following trainers in order of availability:

  • New Camp: Chronos, is the first Water Mage you'll meet, tucked in the middle of the New Camp (past the Rice Field). He is standing in the middle of a Stone Circle with an eerie Blue Glow, so you cannot miss him.
  • Old Camp: Torrez, the Fire Mage who handles the players' introduction to magic with the quest "The Price of Magic." Torrez becomes available as a Mana trainer starting on Chapter 2.
  • Old Camp: Corristo, the Highest Fire Mage. He is inside the Temple of Innos, next to Gomez's fortress. Corristo will train you in Magic Circles and Mana once you unlock the Fire Mage path, starting Chapter 3.
  • New Camp: Saturas, the Highest Water Mage. He is in the cavern in the deepest part of the Water Mages' lair. Saturas can train you in Circles and Mana once you become an initiate at the Water Mage order, starting on Chapter 2.
  • Swamp Camp: Baal Cadar, you can impress him during chapter 1 by using a Sleep Spell Scroll on one of his Acolytes. He will then allow you to increase your Mana. But he will not train you in the Sleeper's magic unless you join the Brotherhood.

How to Increase Mana using Potions & Accessories in Gothic 1 Remake

Extract of Spirit increases Mana by 4 in Gothic 1 Remake

In Gothic 1 Remake, there are Potions named Essences that can increase your stats permanently. The most common are lesser essences, which increase a stat by +2, then you have +3, +4, and even +5 potions. The one that increases Mana is called Essence of Spirit, and comes in all of those versions.

Completing "A Letter to the Fire Mages" allows players to choose a potion, which is exactly that: An Extract of Spirit that increases their Mana by +4. This one can be completed in Chapter 2.

There's a +2 Essence of Spirit just outside the Old Camp, in the rock wall that leads to the cave where the corpse of Nek is. The Missing Warder quest will lead you there. Look for a statue tucked in a small alcove in the wall.

Another Extract of Spirit can be found in Y'Beron's room. You can access it during Chapter 2. The potion can be found inside the chest that needs to be lock-picked.

If players go to the extreme eastern side of the map, just above the Swamp Camp, they will find a beach with a Wreckage and some Fire Lizards. Dodge the lizards, then jump into the ship's foremast (the one in the front), then from there, jump to the climbing wall. Follow the path through the cliffs to a Goblin's Nest. Kill them all, then deal with the Troll inside (you can shoot him then move into the smaller cave, since he cannot follow). After killing the Trolls and some goblins, explore the cave and open the chests there to find yet another Extract of Spirit.

Of course, players need to have Climbing unlocked, which can be learned at the Swamp Camp from Theron. This NPC is sitting on the beach right of the Sleeper's Temple, and if players complete his request (Aiming High) they will learn how to climb.

As for the rings and amulets. Players will be able to purchase rings from Chronos (in the Old Camp) starting in Chapter 1, then they can find some lying about in chests and, if they are lucky, pickpocketed from NPCs.

Ring of Mana increases maximum Mana by 15, then there is an improved version that increases Mana by 20 and Health by 20 called Ring of Enlightenment. It can also be looted from Y'Berron's room once he is dead, at the start of Chapter 3.

For the Amulet Slots, you have the Amulet of Mana, which increases maximum Mana by 30. Consider having this equipped from the early stages, since it will allow you to spam Firebolt and Fist of Wind constantly.
