Black Clover has become one of the most beloved magical shonen series. At its helm, we see the two main characters, Asta and Yuno, fight together and push each other as rivals throughout the story, with the final goal of becoming the Wizard King.
In the run of the series, Asta relied on brute force and his anti-magic, which came to him via the Devilish Five Clover Grimoire, while Yuno was a mage god. By the end of the story, Yuno's magical prowess reached the next level. His rare dual affinity and his connection with the wind spirit make him an unbeatable force when it comes to magic skills. As far as magic control goes, no one stands a chance against him, making him the undisputed best.
Yuno Officially Becomes The Strongest Magic User In Final Black Clover Release
Yuno Grinberryall was first introduced to us in the very first chapter of Black Clover back in February 2015 in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #12. Upon his introduction, we got to learn of his ultimate dream of becoming the Wizard King of the Clover Kingdom. Working toward this goal, Yuno kept his healthy rivalry with Asta burning and used it as fuel to push himself. Eventually, in Black Clover chapter 3, he went on to join the Golden Dawn and would subsequently be involved in many of the arcs of the Black Clover series. With his lucky four Clover Grimoire, Yuno triumphed over most of the enemies he faced.
Ever since the beginning of the story, it was clear to see that Yuno was, simply put, a prodigy of magic. He is blessed with great magical prowess, and in big part, this is down to the second soul of the unborn half-elf child of Licht and Tetia, which resides within his body, granting him access to the elf Wind Magic. At the end of Black Clover, Yuno proved his might and undertook his biggest battle with the help of Asta, as he fought Lucius, the former Wizard King, head-on. Both Asta and Yuno were instrumental in their own ways. While Asta's powers allowed him to negate magic, Yuno was essential in countering time magic.
After the defeat of Lucius, who stood as the strongest antagonist of the story, Yuno cemented himself as the strongest magic user. While Asta is the overall strongest, at the end of the day, he is not a magic user, as he was born with no mana and stood as the biggest anomaly in the world. That, in turn, makes Yuno the strongest magic user of the Clover Kingdom. Previously, in the first 2018 guidebook, Yuno's magical stats were rated extremely high, standing at 5/5 at Magic Amount, 5/5 Magic Sensing, and 4/5 Magic Control. His magic control has now been maxed out at the end of the series.
Yuno’s Control Over Wind and Star Magic Makes Him A God Level Mage
Yuno's overwhelming strength using magic cannot be understated. He was first powered up during Chapter 2 of Black Clover when he acquired the Four-Leaf Clover Grimoire. His next major upgrade came in Chapter 20, when he went on to acquire one of the four great spirits — Sylph, the spirit of wind. With Sylph’s powers, Yuno gained complete dominion over wind-based abilities, and back then, he was already an almost unstoppable force. With his wind-based powers, Yuno was able to move at high speed and unleash deadly Wind attacks. Of course, Wind magic on its own wasn't Yuno’s ultimate power.
It was revealed in Black Clover chapter 233 that Yuno was actually a royal from the Spade Kingdom. Being from the Spade Kingdom, Yuno actually had another magical affinity — Star Magic. Star Magic is a signature magical attribute of the Grinberryall, and for Yuno to be able to hold its power alongside Wind Magic is quite unheard of.
With Star Magic in hand, Yuno acquired a new Grimoire, and his power only kept growing. Using two affinities, Yuno was able to use union magic to combine the two and create new, overpowered abilities. This paved the way for Yuno to be able to create the Mana Zone: Never Never Land.
“Yuno activates this ability [Never Never Land] alongside Bell. It allows him to manipulate the flow of magic and time within a specific domain; He can amplify the magic of Allies inside the space while weakening that of enemies. Within this magic realm, the passage of time is suspended, enabling him to counter even the time based magic of Lucius. “ — Yuki Tabata about Never Never Land in Black Clover New Perfect Grimoire
Never Never Land is a powerful ability where Yuno creates a zone in which he has complete dominion. It was recently revealed on August 4, 2026, in Yuki Tabata's new guidebook that Never Never Land is actually able to control the flow of mana and time inside. This makes Yuno comparable to a Mage God and perfectly explains how he stood as the perfect counter to a character like Lucius, who possessed Time magic.
Yuno’s Overall Strength At The End Of Black Clover
Since the beginning of Black Clover, we've known that Yuno would end up as one of the strongest characters by the end of the story. Even at the beginning, he was quite an overpowered force and was blessed with great magic capabilities, which he only enhanced with his hard work and dedication to beat Asta to the throne of the Wizard King. Sadly, for Yuno, he failed at this task. In chapter 391 of Black Clover, released on May 1st, 2026, in Jump GIGA’s Spring Edition, he was officially defeated by his rival. However, despite this defeat, Yuno remains the strongest magic user in the story.
In Black Clover's new guidebook released on August 4, 2026, Yuki Tabata goes on to expand Yuno's abilities. Seeing how he was able to defeat high-ranked Devils, Tabata even refers to him as a being on the level of a Demon God. Yuno now stands as Spade royalty and is the Captain of the Golden Dawn, but his powers put him shoulder to shoulder with Asta. Even if the latter edges him, they are still extremely close in power and are untouchable for even the strongest Mages of the world. After the two-year timeskip, Yuno’s magic has probably grown further. With the Black Clover manga having ended on May 1, we won't be able to see Yuno in action anymore. However, the Black Clover anime is returning in October 2026 and will showcase some of his strongest attacks and transformations animated, finally bringing his character to life in unique ways.
