Black Clover, a story by Yuki Tabata, has proven itself to be worthy of being called one of the best shonen series of the 2010s and 2020s. Having begun its run in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump in 2015, 11 years ago, Black Clover revolves around its main character, Asta, a commoner with a big dream of someday becoming the Wizard King. The Wizard King is a prestigious title in this world of magic, and is held by the strongest member of the Magic Knights of the Clover Kingdom. With the story of Black Clover finally concluding in the Spring Issue of Shueisha's Jump GIGA with chapter 392, the series finally has a new Wizard King who succeeds the predecessor, Julius Novachrono, and it is none other than everyone's beloved, Asta.

Black Clover Chapter 392 Officially Announces Asta As The 29th Wizard King After Defeating Yuno
The Black Clover manga series saw a brilliant journey for the title of the Wizard King unfold right from its very beginning in 2015. After 11 long years, the plot progressed towards the end, and despite the many hiatuses of the author, it finally wrapped up the story in the Spring Issue of Jump GIGA, which was officially released on May 1, 2026. In this new Jump GIGA issue, Tabata released three chapters, with Chapter 392 marking the official end of the story. With that, Yuki Tabata had to address the biggest motivation behind Asta's whole story — the title of Wizard King. This title was chased after by two of the main characters, Asta and Yuno. Both were incredibly powerful and deserving of it, but only one could ascend to the top.
To decide the true Wizard King, a battle unfolded after a 6-month timeskip in Black Clover in the last 3 chapters of the story. During these 6 months, the two trained relentlessly, and finally faced off. The battle was intense, with Asta using some of his most iconic attacks and Yuno using his superior magic to counter him. At the end of it all, the winner was none other than Asta, and with that, he was crowned as the 29th official Wizard King. Now, it can officially be said that his strength surpasses that of everyone around him, and that he is the most powerful mage of the whole Kingdom.

How Asta Broke The System By Becoming The Wizard King
While the Wizard King title is highly dependent on strength, it is also usually a rank left for the Elites. By becoming the Wizard King, Asta becomes the first commoner to attain the title, which breaks the previously set-up hierarchy of the Black Clover world and heralds a new era. With Yuno's loss, he instead went on to become the Captain of the Golden Dawn Squad. While not as impressive a title as that of Wizard King, it’s still an incredible position to hold.

How Chapter 392 Sets Up A New Journey For The Main Character Asta
Becoming the Wizard King was Asta's end goal in Black Clover, and while his ascension to this position concludes the story, it could also be seen as a new beginning for him. The Wizard King has a lot of responsibilities, and Asta, despite his carefree personality, will have a high standard to live up to. In the two-year timeskip, fans have gotten a glimpse of what he achieved and introduced. As evident in Black Clover Chapter 392, the Elves are now living alongside humans, which was previously unthinkable. Commoners have also begun applying to become Magic Knights, which means the shift of societal hierarchy has affected more than just Asta.

Evidently, Asta is doing a great job for now, and his responsibilities have made it seem that the title of the Wizard King is now rather boring in the new era of peace. That said, Tabata could also put his own twist on it. As the King, Asta will have the responsibility of training the next generation and bringing in a new age of Wizards in the Clover Kingdom. If a sequel for Black Clover is ever released in the form of a One-Shot or a short spin-off, fans would love to see Asta's direct actions as the new Wizard King shown in more detail.
