When it comes to overpowered anime characters, no list can truly be complete without the introduction of the protagonist of the Dragon Ball franchise, Son Goku. From the early days, Goku has dedicated his entire life to getting stronger, which has eventually culminated in him gathering enough power to battle Gods and the strongest beings in the multiverse.
Despite this, there are quite a few other popular anime characters that many believe could defeat Goku in a fight, though most of the time, this is actually not the case. So, in this article, let's go over some incredibly overpowered anime characters whom many think could beat Goku but actually can't.
Luffy's Power In Gear 5 Is Below Goku's Weaker Forms
Anime: One Piece

Although, admittedly, One Piece isn't a story that places as much stock and importance on power scaling and the need to get stronger as Dragon Ball does, some fans believe that, with his new Gear 5 state, Luffy has become even stronger than Goku. While he is certainly powerful, this simply isn't the case.
Of course, Gear 5 allows Luffy to do incredible things such as manipulate reality to a small degree by turning everything into rubber and forming objects out of thin air. However, the feats of strength and speed that Goku has shown over the years just completely out scale Luffy's strongest moments due to the incredible power that Goku wields even in his regular Super Saiyan forms.
Naruto Got Quite Strong, But Not As Much As Goku
Anime: Naruto

The Naruto franchise is notably similar to Dragon Ball, in that the main character gets far more powerful over the course of the series, often through transformations. Most recently, Naruto unlocked his incredible Baryon Mode, which is a form that merges his and Kurama's chakra to bring forth a form greater than any before it.
With this legendary power, Naruto can perform incredible feats of strength, speed, and chakra control, though even at its strongest, it wouldn't be able to harm Goku. Even while merely in his Super Saiyan God state, Goku's exchange with Beerus was destroying reality itself, which just puts the Saiyan at a level that Naruto simply can't reach.

Gojo's Defense Would Still Not Be Able To Stop Goku
Anime: Jujutsu Kaisen

For what is definitely a contentious pick to some, Gojo and Goku are often pitted against one another. Of course, Gojo simply cannot contend with Goku from a strength or speed standpoint, but his special abilities make him notably overpowered, not just in his own series, but throughout anime as a whole. Many believe that even Goku couldn't get past Infinity.
However, Goku was breaking reality itself due to his clashes with Beerus, so he could break down such a conceptual barrier. Plus, Goku even said that he could replicate the dimension-breaking Kiai scream of Super Buu and Gotenks, which would also easily break through Gojo's Infinity. While Unlimited Void may be enough to incapacitate the Saiyan, most Dragon Ball fans believe that, through Ultra Instinct, Goku could break out of that as well.
Yhwach Can't Run Away From Goku At All
Anime: Bleach

As the strongest character in the entire Bleach series, Yhwach has one of the most overpowered abilities in anime. 'The Almighty' allows Yhwach to perceive many different futures which he can then alter however he wants in order to be favorable towards him. This makes fighting him almost impossible.
Although he would undoubtedly give Goku a very interesting fight, the Saiyan's raw strength and speed scale far above even the greatest feats in Bleach. However, this is a difficult match-up to talk about, since Yhwach has been shown to negate even his own death, which means that this fight could technically go on forever.
Sung Jinwoo Would Have A Tough Time Against Goku
Anime: Solo Leveling
Many think of Solo Leveling as being the spiritual successor to Dragon Ball, and this is a fairly common sentiment due to the similarity of the story and the importance it has placed on power scaling. The main character, Sung Jinwoo, stands out in particular due to his immense power and strength.
At the current moment where the anime is, Jinwoo is quite formidable but would get destroyed if he went against Goku, mainly due to the Saiyan's strength and vast toolkit of techniques. However, as those who have finished the source material know, Jinwoo's power grows much more, so Goku's current superiority won't last very long.
Saitama Would Be Goku's Toughest Fight
Anime: One Punch Man

This pick is sure to ruffle some feathers. This is because Saitama is a character whose entire existence makes a mockery of anime power scaling, especially for that of the Dragon Ball franchise. By having the main character be the most overpowered being in the universe, any growth and interest in battle would be nonexistent.
Over the course of One Punch Man, Saitama has shown some of the most incredible feats ever put onto the paper or shown on the screen. However, due to the lack of times he went all out, many still give Goku the benefit of the doubt, and although this could change due to Saitama never really showing his full power, it's equally likely that he's far stronger than the Saiyan.
All of these series can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
