Solo Leveling took the world by storm in an unexpected manner in 2024 when its anime finally debuted. The success of this series definitely surprised us all, but it has cemented itself as one of the greatest new additions to anime in the 2020s, rivaling the likes of Frieren, Jujutsu Kaisen, and The Apothecary Diaries, among others. For a Manhwa-based series to achieve such grand success is definitely not a common occurrence. Manhwa tend to be quite underrated, and after Solo Leveling, we were hoping for other major hits to deliver a similar performance with their respective anime.
Sadly, Solo Leveling's biggest Manhwa rival touted to be “the next Solo Leveling,” that is, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, has been delayed to 2028. Originally scheduled to air in 2027 alongside Solo Leveling's new movie, Beyond the System, the series is staying in the shadows for now while waiting for its chance to shine in 2028.
Next Solo Leveling “Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint” Is Reportedly Delayed To 2028
In the world of Manhwa, no series is as big as Solo Leveling. This story by Chugong, originally written as a novel in 2016 and eventually serialized and adapted into a Manhwa in 2018, was a massive hit from day 1, and its anime only served to make it even bigger. With that being said, Solo Leveling wasn't without competition in the novel and Manhwa department. The franchise has one massive rival that some even consider better in many aspects. That series is Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint.
On a global scale, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint is unheard of when compared to Solo Leveling, and that is because the series has yet to be brought to life via an anime adaptation. But although the series has yet to be animated, it has already been confirmed for an adaptation. An anime adaptation for it being greenlit was first unveiled at Anime Expo 2024. Since then, 2 years have passed, and some progress has certainly been made. It was reported that Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint Season 1 would officially air in 2027, 3 years after its initial announcement. Sadly, new reports indicate the 2027 release date is no longer viable.
As is clear from the financial reports of the South Korean gaming company Com2uS, ORV is one of their investments, and its target date is now set to 2028. In other words, ORV seems to have been delayed by one year, pushing its Season 1 release date to 2028. Fans now have to wait one more year for the release of Kim Dokja’s story, and that is quite unfortunate news for fans of South Korean manhwa. The reason behind the delay of Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint Season 1 is currently a complete mystery. But, more than likely, this delay could be down to production issues, such as a lack of time for the staff or an unsatisfactory product. While sad news, a delay could end up being a blessing in disguise, especially for fans expecting great things from this anime adaptation. More time would mean the staff can put out their best work and also bring in more talent to help out where needed.
Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint Is Set Up To Be Solo Leveling’s New Anime Rival
It's no secret that Solo Leveling is the best manhwa of all time. The series has amassed over 14 million sales globally, and through its anime adaptation via Aniplex and A-1 Pictures, it has become a household name. Solo Leveling was popular before its anime adaptation, but it was far from being the global hit it is today. Over the last three years, it has become Crunchyroll's most popular anime with the highest rating and most reviews, even ahead of the likes of Demon Slayer and One Piece. This goes to show Solo Leveling's massive impact, and at the same time, the potential that the manhwa industry truly has to become a dominating force in media.
At the moment, no manhwa series can compete with Solo Leveling, but if there's one series that has a shot, it's undoubtedly Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, the third most popular manhwa in South Korea, just behind Solo Leveling and Tower of God. Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, written between January 6, 2018, and February 2, 2020, by singNsong, has grown in fame since its humble beginnings. The novel went on to be popularized after its Manhwa adaptation, but it remains incomplete without an anime to globalize it. When Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint does get animated, which is currently scheduled to happen in 2028, the series will experience new heights of popularity.
Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint has quite a captivating story. It follows Kim Dokja, who is thrust into the world of a book only he has read. The ending of this book, as he has read it, is cataclysmic, but with his newfound knowledge, he vows to change it. Just like Solo Leveling, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint has some insane action that keeps readers hooked, and it definitely has the potential to become a global sensation. Of course, its success doesn't only rely on its story. What Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint really needs is an incredible anime adaptation. Solo Leveling would've never become as popular as it is today had its anime not been such a sensation and dialed to the max by the studios that oversaw its production.
If Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint's adaptation is mediocre, then it will never be able to reach its true potential in popularity. Hopefully, this delay means that the studio is working hard on producing the best possible final product for this legendary manhwa series. It is important to note that we have no official information on which studio is behind the anime adaptation of Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint. However, it was previously stated that it would be handled by a big Japanese animation studio, so we all have faith to see a great adaptation.
Solo Leveling And Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint’s Future In Anime
The manhwa industry has experienced quite a boom since Solo Leveling's successful anime adaptation. Following the success of the anime, it's clear that studios worldwide have taken notice of the potential of South Korean stories if brought to global audiences through amazing anime. As such, there are numerous series that are in talks to be adapted into anime, even beyond Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint.
As far as Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint goes, we will undoubtedly see more than just a single anime season. With ORV, the story is enough to give us 4 or more anime seasons covering the incredible plot and captivating cast of characters. For Solo Leveling, we already have an official upcoming project from Aniplex and A-1 Pictures in 2027 that adapts the story following the ending of its Season 2 in 2025. This new adaptation is a theatrical movie known as “Solo Leveling: Beyond the System,” and is set to cover two of the most exciting arcs of the Solo Leveling manhwa, notably the Ahjin Guild arc and the Return to the Double Dungeon arc. From the trailer itself, we know this movie is about to be a massive hit, and we're eagerly waiting for its release. Depending on its success, it could also further push forward new manhwa anime adaptations and revolutionize the whole genre. Hopefully, someday, we can see both Kim and Sung Jinwoo’s series air side by side. Sadly, this is no longer going to happen in 2027.
