Players cannot trigger Mortal Shell 2's point of no return unintentionally, as it doesn't occur until the "Send Ova" option is selected at the Gloom Siphon. That option only becomes available after beating the game's final boss, and you can freely explore before you pick it. Players therefore don't need to worry about accidentally locking themselves out of content, as nothing but selecting "Send Ova" acts as a point of no return in Mortal Shell 2.

You can find more information about reaching the game's final boss and triggering the point of no return below, though be advised that spoilers are included in that information.

Mortal Shell 2 Point of No Return Guide

The Gloom Siphon with the Send Ova option that triggers the point of no return in Mortal Shell 2.

Collect 168 Ovum

To reach the point of no return, you must first collect 168 Ovum. The simplest way to hit that number is to cleanse the game's six Corrupted Gates, as each one awards many Ova. However, you don't actually need to cleanse all the gates to hit the required 168 Ovum, since you can also earn them from activities like cleansing beacons.

Clear the Area Beneath Marrow Keep

Once you've earned 168 Ovum, head to the room in Marrow Keep with the Gloom Siphon. Approach the NPC in the room to open a path in the floor that leads to a large subterranean area. Here, you must work to find and defeat four bosses, the last of which is Zmey, the Unbidden, and you'll return to Marrow Keep when the job is done.

Send Ova

With Zmey, the Unbidden defeated, you'll find that a new option has appeared when interacting with the Gloom Siphon: Send Ova. Selecting that option will trigger the game's final cutscene and leads to the acquisition of the This is Not an Achievement achievement and NG+. Notably, there is no confirmation prompt when selecting Send Ova. Once you click it, there is no going back.

Missable Trophies

There are three missable achievements in Mortal Shell 2 that players who are concerned about the game's point of no return should be aware of. Two of those achievements, Mid Summer and No, You Still Can't Win, are earned during the prologue, and you'll need to address them on a new save file if you've missed them. The third comes from performing a Perfect Guard on each one of The Nameless Captive’s headspins using the Untarnished Seal, and you can take care of it in NG+ if necessary.
