Most Soulslike games do not give players a traditional world map to help them navigate their surroundings. Mortal Shell 2 is a little different since the game takes place across an open world, giving you a map that is initially covered in fog and taking more time to explore eveything.
Simply exploring an area and covering more distance will not clear this fog, meaning you need to find specific maps scattered throughout the world. If you have recently completed the prologue and are wondering where you should head first to get a map, this guide has everything you need to know.
Where to Find Your First Map in Mortal Shell 2
Once you have completed the prologue, you are free to begin exploring the world and will notice several crow markers on your map. These markers point toward Ruk, who is waiting for you and will provide you with a map of the surrounding region.
Since these locations are already marked, all you need to do is travel to the crow icon and pick up the item sitting on the pedestal. There are multiple maps scattered throughout the world, but most players will likely head toward the Widow's Overlook Beacon first. From here, you can find your first map by following the path southeast.
Turn around from the Beacon and continue down the path. You will eventually reach a large arena on your right where you can initiate the Great Arbiter of Flesh boss fight.
This is a relatively tough encounter, so getting yourself a Shell before taking it on can make the fight considerably easier.
For now, ignore the arena and continue straight ahead until you reach a group of cultist enemies. Deal with them and continue toward the tree ahead. There are several flying enemies around the tree that can be ignored, although their projectiles deal significant damage, so be careful if you decide to run past them.

Look to the right of the tree to find a jump pad. Use it to reach the top of the hill, where you will find Ruk sitting on a statue. Interact with the pedestal to collect the Map of Fainweald, which will reveal part of the region.
Since this is your first map for Fainweald, collecting it will also mark three Corrupt Gates on your map. These are important locations as they contain powerful bosses guarding Beacons. Cleansing these Beacons rewards you with a significant amount of Ova.
From here, you can either continue toward your main objective or seek out more crow markers to find additional maps and gradually reveal more of the world.
How Many Maps Are There in Mortal Shell 2?
There are 11 map fragments to find throughout Mortal Shell 2. Collecting all of them unlocks the "Sat Nav" achievement or trophy, making it worth seeking out every Ruk location if you want to remove all the fog.
