Gege Akutami is the brilliant creator of the Jujutsu Kaisen franchise, which stands as one of the most popular new-gen series. While his original series ended with the release of chapter 271 on September 30, 2024, the author returned shortly after with a short serialization named Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo.

Together with Yuji Iwasaki, Gege Akutami created a brand new story set 68 years after the conclusion of the Shinjuku battle against Sukuna. In this story, Gege brought back his previous main character, Yuji Itadori, only to officially line up his death, which is incredibly sad for all the fans. Gege Akutami isn't known to shy away from killing his main characters, and now, it appears that he has officially set up the death of Yuji Itadori as well.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 25 Officially Confirms Yuji's Death In 300 Years

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 25 Yuji Death 300 Years

Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo featured Yuji Itadori quite heavily towards the end. The first part of the story hyped up Yuji quite a lot and set up a plotline surrounding his disappearance. It wasn't until Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 19, which was officially released on January 26, 2026, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #9, that Yuji made his official comeback. After Yuji returned, he went on to showcase his immense power in the subsequent Modulo Chapter 20, which was released on February 2, 2026, in Issue #10 of Weekly Shonen Jump. From here onwards, Yuji Itadori played a significant role in the story, specifically pertaining to the erasure of Cursed Energy from all humans in Japan. This was a massive change that forever affected the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, and in doing so, Gege Akutami also set up the death of Yuji Itadori.

"Veterans don't die. They wither away with time, you know?" — Yuji Itadori makes a comeback, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter #20

To understand Yuji's death, we first need to understand the fact that Yuji is no longer a regular human. He is a mix between a Cursed Spirit and a normal human. After consuming his siblings, specifically the Death Paintings Number 4 to 9, Yuji is growing more akin to a Cursed Spirit as time passes. At the same time, this has also affected his aging drastically. While Yuji Itadori should be an old man right now, he is still in his absolute prime.

"Upon absorbing the Cursed Wombs, he became a hybrid between a curse and a human, which caused his aging to slow down to an extreme degree" — Gege Akutami explains Yuji's age, Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo Volume #3 Notes

Everyone around Yuji is dying one by one, and the death of Megumi Fushiguro specifically affected him tremendously. Yuji even sought solitude to escape the truth that he would outlive all his friends and remain alone, but eventually, he came to terms with the fact that he had to do his part in raising the next generation. In Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 25, Yuji Itadori officially confirms that, as he is currently, he is going to live for at least 300 more years. This means that Yuji Itadori is now set to die 300 years later. While this might seem to fans like an event that is never coming to pass, the way Gege Akutami set up the ending of the series actually makes his death highly likely to be shown if the series ever releases any one-shot or any continuation later down the line.

"I'm going to live for another 300 or so years. I will handle whatever follows. And if necessary, I'll bear the consequences of this great sin." — Yuji Itadori confirms his lifespan, Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo Chapter #22

Next JJK Release Could Show A World Without Yuji Itadori

With Gege Akutami confirming that Yuji Itadori will die in 300 years, most fans might assume that this will never come to pass because the series officially ended with Yuji at the peak of his powers. However, at the end of JJK Modulo, Cursed Energy was officially erased from the next generation of Sorcerers in Japan. That said, minuscule amounts of Cursed Energy are still present in everyone and cannot be removed at any cost.

In other words, some Cursed Spirits will still show up in Tokyo every single year. As long as Yuji is alive, these Cursed Spirits will be taken care of easily, but when he dies, the Sorcerers of the future generation will not be equipped with the tools to deal with this issue.

To fix that, Yuji Itadori set up a plan alongside Nobara and Aoi Todo. Together, the three are going to raise the next generation of Sorcerers and train them using Cursed Tools. Yuji also intends to mass-produce these Cursed Tools for use, but the most important step is Yuji turning himself into a Cursed Object. This means that Yuji will die by turning himself into a Cursed Object. Later down the line, if Japan is ever threatened by a force so great that the Sorcerers cannot deal with it, then someone will consume Yuji Itadori to bring him back to life. A world without Yuji might not be equipped to deal with the threats of powerful cursed spirits or any other form of threat that emerges. With his return following his death, defending the future that he himself created is going to be possible once again.

"The last part is pretty bothersome. I'm gonna become a cursed object when I finally die. As you know, the aliens arrived. We don't know what will become of the Earth later on. If people need cursed energy once again in the future, someone just has to eat me, as a cursed object!" — Yuji Itadori confirms he will become a Cursed Object upon death, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter #25

Why Yuji Itadori Is Set To Return In The JJK World Over 300 Years Later

Yuji Itadori Return jujutsu kaisen cursed object

By setting up the official death of Yuji Itadori and making him a finger, just like Sukuna, Gege Akutami has set up an incredibly exciting plotline where someone else becomes his vessel, and we are eagerly waiting to see it expand in the future. In other words, if JJK is to continue in the future, Yuji's death is absolutely necessary for this development to take place. Yuji will then return from the dead by becoming the power inside whoever goes on to consume him and then fight against the threat that Japan faces. This is an exciting setup by Gege Akutami, but whether he would ever want to continue it later down the line or not remains to be seen.

As things stand, Gege has not said anything that implies that he intends to return to Jujutsu Kaisen, but we do know through his editor that he intends to return to drawing and writing manga soon enough. Whether this return is going to be through Jujutsu Kaisen or through a completely different series remains to be seen. All options are currently on the table, and we certainly hope that Jujutsu Kaisen continues in some way or form, even if it is through only a one-shot. Seeing Yuji Itadori three centuries later would certainly be incredibly exciting, and we can only hope that Gege gives us a proper look at this new setting that he himself established.

All the chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen and Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo are available to read via Manga Plus and Viz Media.
